The Ganges is a lifeline to 420 million people but is the second most polluted river in the world. That is little surprise considering 96 percent of the flowers cast into the river contain highly toxic pesticides.
Phool collected this floral waste and turned it into incense sticks. As they did, however, something extraordinary happened. A thick mat-like substance began to grow over the unused fibres lying on their factory floor. This mat, they realised, could be turned into a sustainable alternative to environmentally damaging animal and plastic leather. They called the new material Fleather.
Over the last ten years, the evidence that we face urgent challenges to protect the environment has become indisputable, and it’s clear that the time to act is now. Drawing inspiration from the concept of moonshots, which since the moon landing in 1969 has become shorthand to talk about the most ambitious and ground-breaking goals, Prince William announced The Earthshot Prize: an ambitious set of challenges to inspire a decade of action to repair the planet.
We believe in the power of human ingenuity to prove to us all that the seemingly impossible is possible.

That is some tedious work!!

Kinda feel bad for those women, but the one lady seemed happy and proud of what she was doing.

Interesting......

Are you gonna buy a pair? lol
The second video was only half of the process where they were making incense from the discarded floers, I thought it was the whole thing. The second half showed the reast and the process. Shit was acting a "vegan leather". White dude in the video put a pair on on it passed the test for him. I'm trying to find a longer video. It was from the first episude of "A Optimist's Guide to the Planet: 'Rethink'. If you can find a video with all of it, it's worth watching. They shoed it on the bloomberg channel 10/29

It is just ferminating with the dookey in the river to harden. I read an article they got fish with legs and 3 eyes in that river.

That river is like a liquid shit barn.

AI Overview
Phool leather, or Fleather, is an innovative, sustainable vegan leather made from discarded temple flowers in India by the company Phool by repurposing floral waste into a durable, leather-like material rich in chitin, using microbial growth for a soft texture similar to lambskin, offering an eco-friendly alternative for fashion products like bags and shoes.
How it's Made:
  1. Collection: Phool collects tonnes of flower waste from temples, a significant source of river pollution in India.
  2. Microbial Transformation: They use "flowercycling" technology where microbes feed on the petals, creating a natural, fibrous mat.
  3. Processing: This fibrous material is then processed, often involving tanning with tree bark, and formed into sheets.
Key Characteristics:
  • Sustainable: Reduces floral waste, prevents river pollution, and offers a vegan alternative to animal leather.
  • Biodegradable: A major selling point for ethical fashion.
  • Texture: Soft, supple, and breathable, resembling lambskin.
  • Applications: Used for wallets, bags, shoes, and apparel.
Impact:
  • Environmental: Cleans up sacred rivers and reduces landfill waste.
  • Social: Provides dignified work for marginalized women in India.
  • Recognition: Won awards like PETA India's Best Innovation in Vegan Fashion Award and was a finalist for The Earthshot Prize.
