Learn to Program: The Fundamentals: Next session: 24 September 2012, who's in?

I'm all for folks picking up valuable skills, but let's keep it real. You can have all the good ideas you want, but unless you can separate yourself from the other 200 people/biz's trying to occupy the same space it will be tough sledding.

I was going to say a good ORIGINAL idea, but you don't even have to be original, you really just have to have a unique twist of something that's already out there and enough of a buzz to drive a demand towards your service.

For cats who are already in the IT/Programming field. I recommend looking at the Scala course on Coursera. Functional Programming Principles in Scala

And because your point is valid , it doesn't matter if you're using Scala or Python or C++, Python remains a major league scaleable platform.
As for original ideas, microsoft went to the top without that component (hi-pressure marketing was their tool):
They lifted DOS from Digital Research(Dr. DOS), MS-SQL from from Oracle, data compression from Stacker, and the list goes on.

I consider myself a techie but had to replay the calculator video once

turns out it wasn't that big a deal...you get 100 fuckin tries for the homework  it takes your highest score

check this out though regarding retaking the exams:

Effective Score: 13.95 / 15.00
Explanation: Your effective maximum score is from your score for attempt 1.

I gotta question:

Can you recall old entries after the prompt? Or do you have to re-enter it each time... I think she said CTRL+B but that did work for me

i don't get what you are saying here.

I copied that from my homework. I think it means whatever score you get FIRST...is the score that gets recorded on your records. So getting a higher mark after that doesnt count toward your grade

at least thats the way I understood it

oh, nah...

if you take it twice and you score higher is says
Your effective maximum score is from your score for attempt 2.

really just tells you which one it's using.

can someone help me with the visualizer?

is that a separate download?

if case you haven't found it, it's in the resource section

"We have decided to use the maximum score policy instead of the last score policy for assignments and exercises. This means that we will use the highest score out of all your submissions for each piece of work. This will allow you to continue to explore the homework after you've earned the mark you want without worrying about losing marks by accidentally doing something wrong.

-Paul and Jen"

:yes::yes::yes:

Anyone finish the assignment yet? I'm struggling with step 4.

Never mind. I figured it out. I was overthinking the problem.
