Laptop owners: Where do you get your GENUINE replacement batteries?

Need a new battery for my 3 year old Sony laptop. Got a replacement under my Best Buy warranty but it wasn't a Sony so it doesn't fit well. Laptop sometimes cuts off when unplugged because the battery is loose.

Sony wants $200 for the same battery on their site . I see bad reviews on Amazon for lots of replacement batteries.

Where does everyone get their GENUINE battery replacements?

i got one for my mac off ebay. it wasnt genuine but works perfect and fits perfect. paid 35bucks

i bought china knockoff on ebay for like $20 thru $35 for my macbook

so far no explosions.



Would i buy a knock off battery for a tesla? no

Have you had them long enough to tell whether it deteriorates faster than the original?

The replacement knockoff I got barely lasts an hour now after less than a year.

Because of the fit issue, I'm back using the original which gives me about 2 hours unplugged. I was getting about 6 hours when I first got the laptop

yes i wont lie, the knockoff battery gave me about 4hrs (vs 4.5hr oem) for the first year fine, now 2yrs later it gives me about 2hrs. (if that).

but for the $30 or so i paid it did the job. (vs the $80-$100 apple store wants) for a oem battery.

eBay has genuine and non-genuine batteries. Take your pick.

Have bought 2 knock-off batteries and experienced the same thing, the charge just doesn't last as long!

I'm about to buy another one for my back-up laptop, a Compaq, and because of my experiences I'm gonna go original, going from almost 2.5 hours to a little over an hour on the knock-off is almost like still having a bad battery!

If Best Buy gave you a shitty battery under your warranty, can you not go back to them and get them to give you something that actually works properly???

I never pay attention to "genuine." In essence all you are getting is a bunch of no named AA batteries stringed together. I've seen hacks where you can replace them yourself if you're incline and handy with a soldering iron. You can actually increast the capacity by going up in charge capacity...so if you've got a bunch of 1600Mah batteries in your original battery pack, you can up them individually to 2600Mah or whatever size they come in and get an "extended" battery yourself.

I've done that twice already, still may pursue that route again but just considering my options.

Not really worried about paying for a new battery outta pocket considering I got this $900 laptop for $250 with the warranty when I worked there.

Sometimes there's just no short cuts. You may not have to pay 200, but I think going through Sony is the surest way.

No complaints at all.

I've had my replacement going on about a year plus.

No issues at all, and it was WAY cheaper than the genuine replacement.

I actually did this a few years ago and it works. The trick is to sketch a diagram of how the batteries connect. They have some funky connections. Also be careful soldering the connections together.

That was my first successful business on eBay until I got a cease and desist from all of the major manufacturers. I used to go through four cases (50/pack) of batteries a month. Easy money. Unfortunately, most laptop batteries are no longer using that configuration anymore.
