Ladies what are you rockin up top?

Thank you BiGirl and Iz for the information!

I still need to do some more research on it. . I'm scared to cut my hair short to get it started. I think that's my biggest hang up. I've had it natural for almost a year now but I'm still trying to figure what to do with it. I'll definitely keep you guys posted :)

my hair is just natural and i am re doing my hair right now. Im seriously thinkin about locing my hair...not those fine locks i mean the ones that are kinda thick. Its looks really cool on some women and i like it. However, i also like to rock an afro. So i dunno. Probably Later on and then see if i like it. Once i dont put relaxers or perms in my head im cool.

If your hair is natural you don't need to cut it short to start it.

 Really? I thought you had to start out kinda short. . . My hair is shoulder length. You don't think that would be too long?

If it I could start it at the length it is now that would be great. .

Bi is right- I started my first set at shoulder length because I didn't want it short. Palm rolls look cute and work a little better on short hair imo, but you could start with two strands and use palm rolling for maintenance.

Gotta be aware of wearing a crown in Bim sis. You know the rep that dreadlocks have round there. True Rasta or not.
But do your thing sis I dont ever knock a naturalist.

My advice is to stay as natural as you can. By this I mean refrain from as many chems as is possible. If you already have the natural going on the locks will form nicely.
You'll need to decide what size of locks you prefer to vibe with. I have fine ones because that was what I wanted. I could still go straight up bongo dread if I really got lazy and left my new growth but....:smh: then again who knows...

Be aware that your environment affects your locks. I cover mine sometimes when the atmosphere changes.

BG and Izzy gave you great starting points so you can choose one. Feel free to holla at me when and if you decide to take it on. Will do what we can to help.

Precisely.

well it is not that bad now. I guess people learned how to look 'professional' with the hair style. Plus the era of relaxing hair kinda fading out and alot of women are going back natural....cutting off their straighten hair and going short texturized styles or locksing. Ive never worked tho so i dunno how its gonna b in the working department but i guess its not a big issue now.

At one place they were using ELECTRIC curling irons :confused:and a chick tried to do my eyebrows with some clippers:smh:
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I cut my hair of in '05 and rocked an afro for a few years. Just recently I broke down and put some chemicals in my hair. :smh: I regreted it as soon as I saw the results. It is not straight so I will try the twist out. This thread makes me want to go to Sally's and get some conditioner RIGHT NOW!:yes:

Yay, my kinda thread!

I'm wearing my relaxed hair in a layered wrap. I get perms 4x a year and my hair continues to grow. I think a lot of folks hate perms because they put them in their hair and don't use the proper products to take care of it after. I know some ladies that put perms in their hair and dont use neut. shapmoo to make sure all of it is out or leave the perm in to long resulting in sores in the hair and overall weak unhealthy hair. :(

I only use organic shampoos and conditioners in my hair. I keep my hair up in protective styles during the week and limit heat use. And when I use heat I make sure I use a heat protectant. And most important ceremic Farouk irons which decrease the potential damage to the hair.

I like to switch it up sometimes with sew-in weaves or quick weaves with a wig cap. But for the most part I wear my own hair.

Kudos to the sistas with LOCS they are simply gorgeous! :)

I have a crazy full head of black curly hair. Complaints of my Capeverdian father and my Puerto Rican mother pass my mid back. I like to straighten it from time to time.

Props to all my beautiful sistas but especially my sistas with naturals.

I know this is for the femmes too but:

I had locs for 15 years, cut em last year May. I now rock a short fro cause its winter time but I was rocking a ceasar since I haven't seen my scalp in 15 years!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know if I have the patience to ever grow em back.

Bump-because once again I am looking for a new hairstyle...I love my braids...But...I want something new..Everytime I say I am going to try something new I punk out...

Post some ideas for me ladies!:)

hmmm i actually prefer clippers and blades over wax, tweezers and threading. and nerp i don't have beasting eyebrows lol

anyway i did my natural hair stint and now i'm relaxed. i'm currently growing out a very light color so yeah lol

i'm actaully thinking of cutting the color off cuz its kinda damaged anyway (prolly will today after i get my relaxer) and just wear a cut around my chin. hmmmm

but during the winter i usually get braids, i want thick rows (not Goddess but not too small), probably fish braids.

Are these pictures of fish braids? I can't say I know what they look like...

Currently, I'm waiting to add some color to my hair (all my highlights from last year are practically gone)... I am going for a chestnut/coppery-red...I said I was going to cut it, but my hairdresser wants to put me in a hair show, so he isn't feeling cutting my hair right now...

I actually really like the cut Cynthia Nixon was rocking in the sex and the city movie...how she wore it straight and wavy, angled at the chin..very chic!

Right now, I'm rocking micro braids, just came back from the islands, but normally, my hair is long about the middle of my back, right between my shoulder blades . . . not sure what I would do without a relaxer, its mad thick.:smh:

Ok I want something this like these except maybe thinner....
And I am afraid of color so would be all black..

My hair is similar to this right now. . No color though. I wouldn't get them any thinner, I actually wanted them bigger so they would be more full looking.

I think that would be cute on you though :). I really like mine now. . . when I first got them I really didn't know if they looked right on me.

Ju.. I really like those fish braids. That's my first seeing those. Let us know if you get them I really would like to know how they turn out.

bump b/c i'm having a hair dilemma lol

part of me wants to try locs, especially since i saw the video on youtube saying i can take them out

then the other part of me wants to keep my hair braided for all of next year to see if i want to relax it, do loose natural hair or loc it

then the other part of me is like, fuck it, i'm getting a relaxer

my hair will remain thick and grow in all situations so iono ahhhhhhh lol

i think i have a lil bias b/c i did a 5 year loose natural stint BUT i didn't do my research...i got a lot of thinking to do

real "locs" cannot be simply taken out JuC.
My suggestion would be to do the loose natural/braided for now and see how it goes.
You already know how I feel regarding the relaxer thing.

Peace
