I mean hairstyles.

Black women have variety and options in today's day.

I've done everything from short naturals to long braids to weaves and wigs.

I cut off all my hair recently, well I got about an inch of natural hair. But I'm now rocking the lace wigs that Beyonce and Tyra Banks wear over my own hair.

I keep it cornrowed, applying a leave in conditioner but I add a bottle of glycerin in my hair to keep it moisturized underneath the wigs.

What are you girls doing? Relaxer, blow out, natural, weave, wig, locs, twists, etc?

Also, here is a great forum where I get advice on what to do with my hair depending on whatever I want to do.

locs and they just past my shoulders. right now i don't have them twist up in a style. i wear those fat headbands alot you know the kind that are like 6 inches wide and keeps all your hair up in a ponytail type thing? I love those.

I started growing my perm out about 8 months ago. I have no idea what to do with it now. I've pretty much been doing the sew-in weaves. Any suggestions for me?

I relax my own hair with Motions relaxer. I also have a little color in it. I don't wear weaves because my hair grows pretty fast. The key to growing you hair is keeping your ends trimmed. I can cut inches off my hair and it will grow back within a few months. My mother always told me that "a woman's beauty is her hair", so I have yet to cut it all off. When I get up into my 40's I may opt for a short hairdo.

I had shoulder length locks but I recently cut it to start again so I got short locks now. Dark brown, shiny and healthy looking. :)

Right now I'm giving my hair a break with relaxers. Im wearing a straight ponytaiil with bangs and I gel and brush my real hair back. I've been thinking about getting these, but haven't made the plunge yet.

I've decided that I'm never going to rock a relaxer again. If I use hot combs, blow dryers, etc., it will be on my wigs. Since I've been on a hormone, my hair thinned out. I'm taking biotin to help and will just allow my hair to grow in its natural state. I will probably venture to locs in my late 40's early 50's. But for now I'm glammin' it up with the lace wigs, plus it allows alot of versatility.

I haven't had a relaxer since December 2006. Right now, I rock either twist out or a braid out. I have no desire to go back to a relaxer. Don't get me wrong, I have a closet full of wigs, phony pony's, etc. I like to change it up.

I chopped my hair off earlier this year...low upkeep is my preference, but last week I got tree braids...I have two kids and I don;t have time to blow dry, then flat iron my hair everyday:smh:

Wow. I love this thread.

Currently I am wearing a full head of bonded straight 14 yaki 1PB30. Over the summer, I was wearing pony tails and wigs... But like many of you, my natural hair is thin and damaged from years of relaxing and bonding...:hmm: I starting bonding in high school and got hooked. (Mind you, I graduated HS in '93.)

I was just thinking about giving up relaxers for the new year. BUT, I want something fresh, stylish & HEALTHY in return! Femme, I considered investing in a lace-front. IS it really undetectable? Thats my biggest question.

Rockin the locs- love them. They are my second set just a few years old. I will maybe cut them short and start over again one day, but I will be loced for life. I always had long hair, but I never liked the bone straight look on me (Aaliyah I loved it on). I used to try to crimp and curl and do everything to get the texture back in my relaxed hair. Natural is where it's at for me. It's nice to be able to go to a salon as an option not an obligation.

Same here....I have truly messed my hair up.. I was talking to my kids dad about that the other day...I have this crazy head of hair thanks to my dad whose PR...so it's like this course curly hair, and I've tried to combat it so many times by relaxing it which has only fried it and made it so unhealthy and has changed the texture so badly....So my resolution for my hair in '08 is to just let it grow w/o any relaxers, I'm even trying not to put as much heat on it as well, no matter how much heat protectants I put on my hair it still ends up frazzled..so keeping it braided for a little bit

I have that crazy curly hair too. I never did the chemical thing. I used to braid it all the time. I had real good results from a set called a "twist out". If you don't know of it, its when you twist the hair when wet into 2 strand twists and leave them until the hair is totally dry. When you take them out the hair has a real nice pattern and it lasts a few weeks. Locs are the best thing I ever did to my hair tho and I think I will have them the rest of my life.

I loved the twist out! I wore it all the time when I had loose natural hair. I still do my loc version of it bigirl. I still get asked if my locs are actually twists and twist outs.

Sistas have hope. A lot of women think their hair is too damaged or "bad" to go natural. Just give it some time. Learn what products and styles work best for you.

The twist out huh??? I might have to take your ladies advice and try that one..I just need an alternative because this relaxing is not doing it for my hair....I am happy that I cut it off to start over though because it's growing back much faster and healthier..

I do it with my locs too. Either twists or braids or on curlers when they are wet. LOVE IT!!!

I know... me too, Kitty. I'm there with you. It's to the point where Im a little ashamed of the state my hair is in: Dry and brittle.

I will definitely consider new options. Im leaning toward the lace-front because 1, I love how long hair looks on me and 2, it will give my nautral hair a break from heat and relaxers.

Let's make a pact to do it on '08, sista! :)

Congrats on your decision! I cut mine off last june with only 3 inches of hair.. It's now to my shoulders and is the best decision ive made. I take multivitamins and use all organic products on my hair- it is expensive but worth it...it really makes a difference...check out nappturality.com, it is a great site for natural hair.

I like nappturality ID. Lots of inspiring photos for women. Natural hair is not just locs or braids or an afro- there's so much versatility. I think people are scared they will be locked into a style.

Yeah, I've been on that site too.

That glycerin tip has done my natural hair wonders! It's the best beauty tip I've gotten besides sleeping in bras!

WOW...this is amazing! So many ladies who love porn and are thinking critically about relaxers. I still am wearing my hair relaxed, shoulder length with some highlights in the front, and I feel the look is so blah and overdone with me! I am HIGHLY afraid of losing my length and hair, but wonder what I can do to switch up my look...any ideas?

Jo what about some curly wet/straw sets give you that crinkle look? Wet sets are a lot gentler on relaxed hair than a blow out and flat iron. I think minimizing heat and moisturizing is the best thing to keep relaxed hair from getting damaged. Heat fries natural hair too.

You should go to the hair forums that were posted in here.

There are lots of ideas.

Do you know most of the black females in the entertainment industry, don't wear their hair out anymore? Queen Latifah doesn't even wear a relaxer. Most are rocking weaves or wigs with their natural hair.

Right now, I'm still doing my relaxers, but the first of the year, I'm actually thinking about doing a sew-in (my first time ever doing weave besides braids) just to let it grow out.

As it stands now with my hair, I get my hair flat-ironed once a week and never have to do anything else to it. Right now it's right on my shoulders. I was hoping it would be longer since I haven't gotten it cut in a year, but the older I get, the slower it grows.

And Femme you are right the hormones do thin your hair.

Women love that.

I hope you're not one of those guys that get annoyed when women play in your hair.

As long as they can stay away from the ears, that's mah spot. Nah, I love it and they do it all the time. That's one of the draws. Conversation starter(though my mouthpiece game is airtight).

Got it pressed right now old school style, a little past my shoulders. When I have more time, I wear it natural. Never had a weave, but nothing against them if they look nice. (side note: before I came in I thought you meant breast size: 36DDD for me)

Locs just at my shoulders with a lil color - will be 4 years in April. I'll never go back to a chemical :smh::smh::smh:

Right now mines is relaxed, a lil bit past my shoulder blades. I get touch ups about 3 times a year, never rocked a weave, and never put in any color, because I feel like I do enough damage to it with the processing (and coloring has never been my thing; I like my jet black hair). If I want to be creative, I'll experiment with a wet set, spiral rods or a fresh hair cut. I love the natural look, but that's not something I want to try just yet.
