Ko Samui, Thailand’s second largest island, lies in the Gulf of Thailand off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus. It's known for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves and dense, mountainous rainforest, plus luxury resorts and posh spas. The landmark 12m-tall golden Big Buddha statue at Wat Phra Yai Temple is located on a tiny island connected to Ko Samui by a causeway.

headed there in January - the deal was just timing or you promo code?
I happened to be on the Cap One travel portal for Venture X members, and the deal popped up. Initially, it was priced at $276 per night, and I made the booking. However, two hours later, the price dropped by $76, and I ended up getting it for $200 per night. They offered free cancellation so I canceled the first reservation.

Listen, Ko Samui was a fantastic destination. Unfortunately, my trip was not as enjoyable as I had hoped due to unforeseen circumstances. However, among all the places I visited from Vietnam to Singapore, Ko Samui was undoubtedly my favorite. Trying to ride a scooter at my age was hilarious, falling off several times, but I’m definitely returning in 2026, and it might even become my new home.

Great to hear!

Did you make it to any of the near by islands? ill be there for 4 nights.

Thinking of staying at the ArKBar - appreciate any feedback.

Thanks for the contribution.

I stayed at Garrya Tongsai Bay and Nora Buri.

In my opinion, Nora Buri offered the better overall value. My room was about $180 a night, and it was identical to the one shown in the video below. It was a villa with its own private swimming pool. Garrya Tongsai Bay had a similar setup, as shown in the video above in post number 9. However, that room was $550 a night. I must admit, it was much larger—at least 2,000 square feet—compared to the other room, which was about 1,200 square feet. But since I was only staying with a chick, I didn’t really need that much space.

The main difference between the two hotels was beach access. The beach at Tongsai Bay was much nicer. You were right there, and there were no rocks in the water. At Nora Buri, you had to cross the street to get to the beach, and it was kind of rocky, so there weren’t many people swimming.

Nora Buri did offer better transportation around the hotel. Every time you made a phone call, they had a golf cart at your door within five minutes to pick you up and take you around the property.

Thanks for the review. Checked out both locations you mentioned and ended up booking at Napasai Samui. Ill be in Koh Samui for 4 nights during my stay in Thailand. Looking forward to it.

yeah, exactly where Ill be - will check out the jungle club resturant at the jungle club while im out there among others things. any other recommendations?

I was there for eight or nine days, so I had plenty of time to do day trips. You’re only going to be there for four days, so your time will be limited. You may want to take one day and do a day tour through one of the travel companies at the hotel.

Also rent a scooter. Try to get one that’s keyless. It should cost you around 250 baht per day. If you take Grab just to go five minutes down the road, it will cost you 300 baht. Grab is expensive as fuck... I drove around the entire island which took about an hour and a half.

I would think twice about renting a scooter.

Do you have an international or Thai driver's license? If not, driving in
Thailand is a BAD idea. Cop WILL stop you, and fines can be significant.

If you have never been to Thailand, realize they have an extremely high rate of
traffic fatalities. Drivers routinely bend or outright ignore traffic rules. Crossing the street in
Bangkok is dangerous as hell. You would be ill advised to take to the streets in a foreign country
on a vehicle you are not legally authorized to operate. Just sayin'.

I would use Grab or Bolt, ride sharing apps. One is for rides by car, the other by scooter, of memory serves.

Remember that you are in another country. It is a very bad idea to go bending or breaking rules when you are a guest. repercussions could be harsh.

Do research (OUTSIDE the porn forum) and have a safe trip.

Enjoy.

There’s a thread in the travel form that provides all the necessary information to obtain an international driver’s license. It only takes less than five minutes to complete. However, taking Grab in Ko Samui is quite different from taking Grab in Bangkok. The prices there are comparable to taking a Grab in Los Angeles to travel less than one mile. You’ll end up paying around 10 bucks. Before you travel internationally, make sure you have a premium credit card like the AMEX Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve or Capital One Venture X. Also, make sure you obtain travel insurance. You can also add rental car coverage to that. I was gone for about a month and was in Ko Samui for about nine days. It’s a very beautiful place.

Also, remember that Ko Samui itself is only 88 square miles, making it a very small place. I completely agree with you about Bangkok. I would never rent a scooter and drive there.
