The truth is while on stage this dude had an epiphany. He was still in favor of using the word when he wrote this song. All was good until that white girl he brought to the stage and then heard her singing n____r! That's when it hit him. Then he handled so poorly which then brought even more attention to the situation.
Ever since the N-word became what it is today black people have been making every excuse imaginable to justify the words usage. I'm sure Kendrick Lamar shared many of their views. But here's the perfect example of why I don't use it. The word never sounds sweet when its coming from the mouth of your enemy.

Why doesn't anyone just come out and say, stop using the word altogether instead of all of these asterisk type situations? I mean, that would pretty much solve the problem.

The word "let" appears nowhere in my post. And yes, If you and I were riding the train you saying the word would cause a very different reaction than me saying it. Context or hard 'R' be damned. That is one of the reasons that I and most other white people don't use it. It's one of the few things, if not the only thing, that Black people can do with far less consequence than white people.
