Kawhi Leonard reportedly no longer wants to play for the Spurs

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich made it clear years ago how stupid it was for the Memphis Grizzlies to trade Pau Gasol to the Lakers and set them up for two championships as a result. That was enough to enact his own rule of not trading any stars to a team in his conference and set them up for years to come.

Disgruntled superstar Kawhi Leonard wants to be traded to the Lakers, but the Spurs have been hesitant to do so, because of the reason mentioned above. A previous talk between the two franchises didn’t go so well, but things have changed since then and it has the Spurs open to all possibilities, according to ESPN.

“The Lakers, the franchise that Leonard wants to be traded to, did not have a good initial conversation with the Spurs, ESPN reported recently.

Although the Lakers came away feeling like San Antonio “shut the door on us” and the conversation never progressed or included a formal trade offer, the Spurs haven’t ruled out sending Leonard to any destination, league sources said.”

Kawhi’s unwillingness to sign a long-term deal with any team besides the Lakers is likely making it harder for other teams to come to the table and risk losing assets for a rental.

"If Leonard can convince the rest of the teams interested in trading for him that he’ll only be a one-year rental before signing with Los Angeles in 2019, the Lakers could have the most compelling trade package to offer San Antonio."

He hasnt even played in a whole yr after a major surgery.
Yet hes still regarded as a top 3 player at worst. And atleast 4 teams have already made serious offers. Deal wit it.
That's exactly why I don't want Kawhi. He may be damaged goods. We can get him in the off season and not have to give our young core in Ingram, Kuzma & Ball.
Yep. And thats why the Spurs would be stupid to play hardball and not trade this clown this summer.

But if you get him now, you get LeBron, which means you have a legit chance at a title this season. You gotta take that opportunity.

Lebron, Kawai & that d-league roster that the Lakers will have after trading off their talent won't beat GS, Boston or even Houston.

Magic need to add some marksmen and some lunch pail guys to compliment the roster.

Lakers gave a lot of teams hell without a major star all they need is Paul George and Bron. The fellas on the roster last season averaged roughly 16 points per game (with the exception of Ball) if I'm not mistaken. I like brother Leonard but I'd be willing to wait it out.

Averaging 16 points on a lottery team is way different than averaging that amount on a winning team, somebody has to score.

I like Ingram, Kuzma & Randle but the Lakers will have to give up at least 2 of them if they're gonna pry Kawai from the spurs this year.
