I understood the strategy and it makes sense. If you attempt to start a movement like integrating baseball using Josh Gibson as great of a baseball player as he was, there was no way Josh Gibson wasn't going to rush the mound if you threw at his head twice
Back in those days, that happened in baseball, but if a black person were to do it it would have set that movement back a decade or more. By strategically starting the movement with the right person it allowed for the movement to gain traction and build and be successful.
I've heard some people say they could have started the integration of baseball with Satchel Paige. The problem with starting a movement like integration of baseball with a picture is Satchel Paige could have put a baseball write down Main Street and the Umpire could have said, "BALL"
And that would have led to frustration and arguments even as mild tempered as Satchel Paige was known to be. Jackie Robinson was the right person to start the movement behind just as Rosa Parks was the right person to start the movement behind.
