Kagan is in!!! OBAMA does it again!!

You show your political ignorance with this statement. He has to reach out to Republicans for two reasons: he ran on a platform of reaching across the aisle and changing the culture of Washington and he has to at least make overtures to the opposition party. That way when they rebuff you (as the GOP has done repeatedly), it's not on you, it's on them. Second, he should reach out to try to find at least a few GOP votes so he's not reliant on the Democrats, who have shown themselves to not be trustworthy. It's not Republicans who have watered down health insurance reform and financial reform, it was the Ben Nelsons and Blanche Lincolns in the Senate, Democrats, who have made their numbers meaningless. Grabbing an Olympia Snowe makes Ben Nelson a non factor. They won't. They can't.

Third: The republicans can filibuster any bill which would tie up the business of the people.

Man I laugh at this political shit. These clowns some how think Obama is really doing all this shit himself knowing full well there is a huge corporate/geopolitical machine governing his every move. Boy it is going to be hilarious when the shit hits the fan on these niggas.:lol::lol:

Third: The republicans can filibuster any bill which would tie up the business of the people.

They could but I don't think they would be Reid is absolutely spineless and won't force them to. When they did try to force a filibuster, the Republicans backed down.

He shouldn't be. Obama has either achieved or made moves on nearly every major initiative he ran on. I'm overly disappointed but not surprised that he reversed himself on a some national security issues but the checklist is impressive: health care reform, financial reform, winding down two wars, signing several major new laws that were stuck in Congress for years such as the Ledbetter Act.

Coached by who?

Supreme court nominations are not things to bargain and reach across the isle with when your party has the power. When qualified it is extremely rare for a presidents pick not to be confirmed when they hold the congress. You save the reaching out for after you have lost some elections. The other side will bark but the position is to important to filibuster just for kicks. The public says if they are qualified let them have an up or down vote.

Just as i thought. Riddles are way cooler than actually presenting facts and intelligent talking points.

Has nothing to do with riddles, you are a Obama supporter which means no one will sway you from your views. Why waste time with someone like that?

Obama does it again?! What is wrong with ya'll??? This isn't a game, the stuff this administration is doing affects the entire country and not in a good way. What do you know about the healthcare bill or the financial bill and all the influence and power the federal government has seized? It is maddening how ya'll sit back and cheer this man on when nothing he is doing will help you or your children in the long run. I used to be a big Obama supporter and a big time liberal until I took the time to learn and really evaluate what's going on, what's right/wrong in my opinion, and what should and shouldn't be done. How many of ya'll have done that?

The ones saying "a win is a win", you all sound pathetic and dumb to be honest. This isn't Monday Night Football, no one got a field goal in the last seconds to win the game because the refs made a bogus pass interference call. I was indescribably proud to see another black man achieve such high status in this country, but the only reason it hadn't happened already wasn't because there hadn't been a black man talented, smart, or savvy enough before. Obama is extremely talented but unless a large number of white people were willing to vote for him, it didn't matter. That's not a knock against Obama, don't read that statement incorrectly. All I'm saying there is that there have been numerous black men with the ability to serve as POTUS, but it wasn't realistic because not enough of white America would have voted for him regardless. I do not deny that their are biases in this country that have denied many a black man (as well as many other groups of people) the opportunity to fully realize their potential. It happens everyday to ALL people though, ALL people. The histories of different groups is of course different but all have significance and each person has their own personal stories, hardships, and shortcomings too. The system is not the nemesis to black America that many of my people claim it is. But if it were, then why on Earth do so many of these same people making that statement wish to expand it's power?

That being said, what's going on in government is not about white vs. black. Those of us who are black who think that it is or that it's a key issue are only doing ourselves a tragic disservice, because that blindness to the real problems and solutions has kept us in a shameful state of distress for decades now. Increasing the influence of the government and this administration and those that'll come after it whether it be Democrat or Republican as they make these thousand page bills, slip in laws we know little about, make appalling backroom deals, and generally ignore the demands and complaints of their constituents bodes unfavorably for all Americans; whether you're black, brown, white, yellow, man, woman, gay, straight, and any other classification that can be used to make us focus on our differences instead of our common interests.

Wake up my people. You don't have to liberal, Democrat, or progressive to love your people and want to help them. That philosphy hasn't helped. It doesn't mean you have to be a Republican either, I'm not. Focusing on supporting a party isn't how you help people or yourself. And you don't and shouldn't be apathetic to all that's going on either.

I don't think Kagan was an example of reaching at all. He picked what seems to be a moderate but liberal leaning nominee with impeccable credentials.

Going by your thinking, you would be negotiating from a position of weakness, not strength. Trying to work with Republicans while you hold a majority enables you to go ahead without them if they balk. After the Democrats lose seats, they'll be in a weaker position to negotiate.

Third: The republicans can filibuster any bill which would tie up the business of the people.

this is the problem with folks...gonna debate an intellectual issue but not care enough to be factual and correct about said issue.

:smh:

I wasn't debating but simply pointing something out. Whether I was right or wrong about the age doesn't lessen the point that he's young. That's the point so stop with the bs.

you were wrong.

plain and simple.

and you admitted to being lazy and not caring enough to educate yourself.

this makes you unable to even discuss these kinds of issues intellectually and factually.

YOU STOP with the bs.

the Obama administration is one of the most successful governments in the history of the US...but you have to FIND reports to support this fact...while his "so called" failures are all the rage on tv and the internets.

you have to FIND reality while BS is offered up with no work involved.

Successful at what, though?

Obama came into office talking about fundamentally changing the system... The health care bill is something-- in a way-- but defense spending increasing overall? That's staying the same in the worst way.

That's the standard I will ultimately judge Obama by-- What fundamental change is accomplished by the time he exits office, especially with respect to the middle class and the poor (and the rich, for that matter) and on the international front. Obama claimed to be a citizen of the world and was off to a great start in giving his first interview to a Muslim organization, but will he be viewed nearly as fondly in 2016 as he was in 2008? Is he not doing less for Africa's AIDS epidemic than George "Doesn't care about black people" Bush? Has he shown more concern for Haiti than any of his recent predecessors would have? Has he changed anything about America's place in the world?

That's how I'll judge Obama's success. And right now, he does not appear to be on course to pass.

The only conservative that's vulnerable is Scalia and he'll hold on like Robert Byrd and Ted Kennedy until there's a Republican president. He will literally have to die or become deathly ill for him to leave under a Democratic president.
Scalia looks young for his age. :(

Is this how we should judge our presidents, by how much of their agenda they accomplish? If that's the case then George W. Bush was an outstandingly successful president and we should have all been doing the :dance::dance: up and down this forum while he was in office. After all, Bush got the tax breaks passed, Medicare Part D drug benefit program enacted, the Patriot Act which created a new level of state surveillance in this country, established the Department of Homeland Security, two enormous foreign wars that have lasted nearly a decade and have yet to end, signed the TARP bill (or the financial bill) which costs about $700 BILLION, and appointed the current CHIEF JUSTICE of the U.S. Supreme Court John Roberts, a man who shares his political ideology.

So if that's what makes a president good or not, how much stuff he gets done as part of his agenda, then George W. Bush was the man. I guess ya'll were sad to see him go huh.
