The trajectory of the DCEU has been a fascinating roller coaster of highs and lows, but the entire venture traces back to the debut of Henry Cavill as a humble reporter known as Clark Kent. Released in 2013, Man of Steel was a new dawn for Superman, with Zack Snyder combining the realism of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy with his own trademark stylized action sheen. As the MCU enjoyed sustained dominance in theaters, Man of Steel became the first entry in a DC cinematic universe, and Cavill would return as the last son of Krypton in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Supergirl has yet to officially debut in the DCEU, but her long-awaited arrival on the big screen has been a hot topic of discussion nonetheless. A Supergirl movie was announced in 2018, with Oren Uziel of 22 Jump Street writing the script. Set to be played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, it's already evident that DCEU Black Adam will be a more heroic interpretation of the comic book character. Adam has been both an outright villain and a misunderstood antihero in the DC comics, but Johnson's will lean heavily towards the latter - a liberator of people who fights for justice in his own uncompromising way. As reiterated by The Rock himself, Black Adam is as powerful as Superman, and the actor has talked-up the chances of the two DC titans coming to blows on the big screen. A character with Black Adam's abilities and the baby-face heroism of The Rock already feels like a potential Superman replacement, and if the DCEU can ever navigate around Johnson's schedule, Black Adam could one day become the face of the franchise.

I can be. I liked the darker, more serious nature of the DC movies. They just weren't executed properly. I enjoyed MoS, but the nostalgic fuckbois ruined it. And then they began rushing the narrative to get a Justice League movie with underdeveloped characters and villains and the "light-hearted" Marvel feel. Not all of us want wisecracks and jokes in these movies. Even the best Marvel ones, like Captain America: Winter Soldier, had a more serious tone.
Well, HBOMax has been leading in additional subscribers for the past few quarters. This is what prompted the simultaneous theater and HBO Max release decision.
Snyder's work has been solid. Man of Steel and The Watchmen both were dope and well done.

It's kind of unfair in a way. How many directors get to go back and redo things AFTER the criticism. Every movie would be perfect then. I keep calling it a dead end. If successful then what? We redo the universe?
Yep, you both are correct. Snyder has to take full responsibility for the Jesse E misstep. If Warner could have been patient and allowed the characters to be properly introduced, they wouldn't be in this mess. They could have done movies for all of the characters, including a Man of Steel part 2. This would have built up the anticipation for the Justice League. WB trying to rush and compete sabotaged a good thing.
I think the other thing is that DC needs to stop listening to everyone. The "Dark" direction is a good lane for some of the brands. As someone else mentioned, it's refreshing to see other dimensions of the characters that were too taboo for the big screen.
The idea of super alien vs smart human was a dumb idea.. yeah yeah I know the cartoon was big but diff is cartoons make you completely throw out any type of reality..like Batman landing on his head with a metal outfit and rolling around 100 times.. even though movies are fake you less likely to give a pass if you see it in a movie instead of a cartoon.. plus none of these guys are gonna murder each other so its no real build up.. zod was ww3 status trying to kill everything moving than you go soft spot with save Martha..smh that shit was garbage that whole idea was garbage and I said that from the start

Batman is the smart human supes is the powerful alien.. the reality is supes can pick up a train and throw that shit from anywhere on earth or even from outer space and crush Batman.. but they will never let that obvious thing happen cause they got to sell comic books and other merchandise.. so supes becomes this forgiving moronic being when fighting an individual that he can easily kill in a sec.. that right there is why the bvs idea is dumb and why I knew it will fail.. bring me on a villain that wants to kill innocent people and has the capability of fucking up supes.. tell the the smart human to go chase after a clown face bad guy he refuses to kill
The super alien vs smart human thing wasn't necessarily a dumb idea from a psychological perspective. It just wasn't executed well. Lex Luthor has always been vain and seen himself as having achieved the peak of human excellence in terms of intellect. And Batman similarly has achieved apex intellectual and physical abilities as a human but is psychologically scarred. But Superman's existence renders them irrelevant. And it's also said that the Clark Kent persona - slouching and slow and disheveled, is how Kal-El really sees humanity.
A lot could have been done with those themes if executed properly. It's like taking an Ivy League-educated genius who came from wealth vs a self-made man who came from the streets or came from nothing and pitting them against each other.
But also, with Superman, there is his moral character, which I think the movies did a fairly good job of establishing. There was a whole animated episode where Clark Kent helped get an innocent man off death row. No Superman at all.
There's also his love of Lois. His emotions are all-too human.
Cartoons.. the moral character is to not kill people in order to keep bringing them back to sell more comic books.. same reason why Batman dosent kill joker.. if he kills joker there isn’t a 1000 comic books featuring him.. not about morals but money.. they just use the moral line so you don’t go why dosent he kill this piece of shit already
Yall really want this version of the DCU to work? Let this dumb shit die. Fonzerelli was wrong when he gave this an 8. There is no salvaging it. Let it burn and build something new.
