Just saw a man drown his baby - When should you intervene?

I guess I'm not completely explaining how I saw it. I was listening from a window because it was dark and there's a big tree blocking my view. I heard a chick screaming "he's gonna throw my baby in the lake", and several other people talking to the cat.
He's basically yelling the whole time "we straight, we chilling, this my son I aint gonna harm my son". Just sounded like a baby momma baby daddy fight. People stay fighting back here at this lake. Im used to hearing it.
I could see at least 10 people out there already, including his brother who looked way bigger than dude yelling" bro, Im trying to stop you" and basically saying he was about to do some dumb shit because the police were almost there.
I swear the nigga sounded sane, but just was mad at his bm's for not letting him get his kid or something. No way I thought, ok this dude is about to go jump in the lake and drown his 4 month year old baby.
Once the police arrived, dude made his way out into the lake, and people started screaming like crazy. We run outside to see police on the little shoreline of the lake and he's out there floating around praying to God and shit. No baby in hand. Thats when I realized he dropped the baby out there. I didnt see him actually do it. Police waited like 5 min before they went out there. And it took them another 5 to find the baby. They rushed
the baby out right in front of us and began performing cpr. Little man was dead already though. I could tell. Mad people was out there filming with their phones. I stopped after they pulled the baby from the lake. Had to watch his momma
hope they could resuscitate him knowing he was dead already. Once the paramedics and cops started crying, I knew they knew it was a wrap. Saw them take that fool into custody. And that was that.

Me and some other grown men out there felt some kinda way that we didnt take this as seriously as we should have. We never saw it coming. Everybody was also telling the police to shoot dude ass strangely enough. They didnt use a lick of excessive force...not even while dragging the murderer out the lake.

Ill be honest when I was a younger man I may have intervened and tried to calm the situation. Maybe talk the person down. My son needs me and can't risk my life anymore trying to save someone who was going to do something sick regardless.

Edit: Just read your last post. You couldn't do anything my brother. His blood brother was out there and couldn't stop him.

RIP little man I know you had no sins are you heart.

That's fucked up. So his own brother was out there trying to stop him. Sad story man. :smh:

Nothing you could do. If a bunch of people were out there and you a complete stranger, what diff would you of really made. Can't trip off that.

On the flip side, I'm still stuck on why the fook you arguing with your baby mama and what possesses you to take a child into a pond of water at night? Or any time of day for that matter.

In the heat of the moment, yeah a woman can make us do some dumb shit, but a lake/pond, like wtf. Dude gotta be stuck on stupid. And I hope he wasn't high or something.

Sad for the child...

Ill try to post the vid I took from my window before I went down...u can hear whats happening but cant see shit. I almost did that live Facebook shit...then I was like, fuck that.

you should have stepped in and stopped him. You gotta stop being afraid to intervene when you see someone in distress and need help. You gotta stop listening to these watered down niggas talking bout, "don't be a hero, don't save that hoe, it ain't your business"! Next time, lend a hand when someone needs help, you may just save a life.

Cosign!!

I wanna add, I worked for NYC EMS for over 10 yrs, so I think I saved many a lives in my lifetime.

I have 3 kids to raise who need their father, there's no way in hell I am stepping in between a man fighting with his baby mama. That mofo could of pulled out a gun and been like, oh so this must be the nucca you been fucking, "you must be Tommy"

Any other situation, I've jumped in to help people, (but 1st rule is always YOUR safety), always have almost my life, outside of my job, but seeing a man and woman fighting, sorry for loss of the child, but as cold as it sounds, we can't change fate at times. I've seen too much death, when it's time to go, sometimes there's just nothing you can do.

So u can see it how I saw it at first.................
Remember, there were already a bunch of people down there and people saying police were called already. So I just observed until I went outside.

what was the childs mother and family doing while this was going on ? 10 minutes ? nobody tried to go in and get the child ?

I've been reading all these fuck the police and we need to police or own communities posts. When the time came for one of us to take action to save the life of a baby no one stepped up. Even after the fact a bunch of people are saying they wouldn't have intervened.

Damn that's fucked up.

Did your girl say he was baptizing the baby?

Shit. It sounded crazy from the top. You ain't Captain America...You did the right thing. The killer is the only one accountable. Just damn... :smh:

Ever since one of my guys lost his life 10+ years ago while trying to defend some random broad on the street while she got beat by her boyfriend, ive learned how to assess the situation before I get involved.

I probably wouldve never went outside my door to be honest with you. I dont like drama AT ALL. You wont see me hanging around if theres fights, loud commotion etc. Im a mellow guy, but I still try to avoid upsetting situations; because I honestly dont know if Id be able to "turn it off" if I became extremely upset. But if there were a situation brewing close to me, and the situation looked like something that I could calm down, without putting my life in jeopardy, then id probably say a few words.

The fact that multiple people from your building went down there is a good thing. There's power in numbers. Going down there solo couldve turned into The Family vs You. But like i stated before....you gotta always assess the situation carefully. Sometimes you dont assess it fast enough and people die. But it is what it is. Your safety should always come first.

I know how you feel man. Yesterday while I was at work, I seen a 6 year old get shot while he was playing at the playground. Two black males were shooting at each other.

Youre a Police officer w/ a gun tho......

that kids had a fucked up future ahead of him anyway, he's better off.

I was actually gonna type the same thing, but then i changed my mind. Mainly because the baby couldve gotten adopted by a family that wasnt filled with misfits.
You never know.,,,

It really gets to me when I see children stuck in the middle idiot adults. A child shouldnt experience that type of negative energy or stress while theyre developing.

I never been in that situation but I imagine if an infant was involved, I would spring into action.

A man and a woman? Not so much. It's likely not the first time and it probably won't be the last. Why insert yourself to save a woman that will only run back to the guy you're "saving" her from?

What was his conversation like beforehand? Did he say some suspect shit about harming the baby?

Bless that child's soul!

What's most upsetting and disheartening in cases like these is that in the end .... the person that failed the child (or children) the most was the family member(s). For everyone else ... neighbor(s), bystander(s), EMT(s), relative(s) ... and so on ... it puts everyone in a difficult position. Like fam' noted earlier in the thread ... if a person can bring their self to take the life of a child (or baby) ... who's to say what they would have done to others had they pulled out a knife or gun and started rampaging? Things can go from 0 to 60 immediately with terrible consequences, and thats what hits home the hardest right after the tragedy.

Again, condolence's to the young one's family.

you think this might fuck with you for the rest of your life?
might need to talk to somebody bruh. you just had a front row seat to witness some of the worst of humanity...
That's why I'm tripping......Im not feeling as bad as I thought I should.

Ain't nothing you could have done. He was going to kill that baby one way or another. :smh: That's the type of cat if stopped would have came back and tried to do a murder/suicide but this time would have involved your family in the plans.

Best thing people can do with domestic situations is to call the pigs and let them handle the shit. Domestic situations are fucking dangerous. :smh:

so fucked up, i couldn't even watch the OP's video knowing the outcome so i know it is bothering him actually being there

We are raising a bunch of weak minded individuals who are so entrenched in their emotions that they are not able to see past it, thus becoming blind by their own rage... If he were to think for just a sec about the consequences behind his actions, not only to his son but also himself perhaps things would have turned out differently..
But as it stands his child and him will have to pay for that ill advised decision he made with out thinking for the end of time...
This is why I stress to young folks that the higher the emotions get the more you have to think... However, you are not used to critical thinking you become a blind slave to your raw emotions and all that it has in store for you...

So you actually did not see it! you just heard the commotion? That's different, I thought you actually witnessed it with your own eyes and you were there.
