PUERTO PLATA.- The Attorney General of the Republic, Jean Rodríguez, conducted a large-scale operation this weekend in the towns of Sosúa and Cabarete, which included ten raids on centers linked to procuring.
In that regard, it was reported that in a joint effort of the Special Prosecutor's Office Against the Illicit Trafficking of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons and the Prosecutor's Office of Puerto Plata in conjunction with the Ministry of Defense, the Specialized Body for Tourist Security (CESTUR), agents of the Criminal Investigation Unit (UIC) and members of the Army of the Dominican Republic, simultaneous raids were carried out on the centers with indications of human trafficking and pimping, during which two centers of significant procuring practice were closed, in addition to rescuing 70 women Dominicans, and imprisoned, among others, a couple of spouses owners of said establishments, who will be submitted in the next few hours to the action of justice.
When offering the details of the operation through a press release, detailed that the businesses closed are Restaurant Bar Pica Flor and Bar Restaurante Barrio Latino, located in the municipalities of Sosúa and Cabarete of this province, owned by the arrested couple, Elvis Henríquez Beatón , alias "El Peje", and Arisleida Pérez Vásquez.
The institution explained that the operations were carried out in a surprise and simultaneous manner, responding to demands of society, exposed directly to the attorney Jean Rodríguez in the community meetings he has developed at the national level and multiple complaints, where citizens have identified procuring, prostitution and trafficking in persons within the crimes that most affect them.
"This social problem of procuring that affects the community of Puerto Plata, is a matter of great concern for all of society and for us as authorities, because their daughters and their women become vulnerable to unscrupulous people who profit by exploiting our people, affecting the integrity of the victims and the image of the province and the country, as well as important sectors such as tourism, for which we have declared zero tolerance against that crime and we have instructed the prosecutors to act with all the drasticity that the laws in these cases, "he said.
The institution stressed that the action is part of the plan drawn up by the attorney Jean Rodríguez to fight with specific actions these serious crimes of organized crime, highlighting that the present administration has paid special attention to this issue, giving precise instructions to the Public Ministry of all the country to strengthen the work of prevention and prosecution of these crimes and to be submitted to justice, all involved.
Regarding the arrested couple, the Public Prosecutor's Office informed that they have ample evidence gathered through a successful strategy of investigation and prior intelligence ordered for about four months and that they will request within the established period of 48 hours to the Judicial Office of Services of Attention Permanent of Puerto Plata, the imposition of one year of preventive detention as measures of coercion, for the alleged violation of articles 334, 334.1, ordinal 3rd. 6th and 9th. of the Dominican Penal Code, modified by Law No. 24-97 on Gender Violence, and Article 66 of Law No. 631-16 on Arms, Ammunition and Related Materials.
He explained that during the operations in addition, several additional employees who were in the patrolled establishments were apprehended for investigation purposes.
Regarding the accused Elvis Henríquez Beatón, explained that his arrest occurred during a raid at the Bar Pica Flor Restaurant, through court order No. 609-01-2018-ADM-00377, issued by the Court of Instruction Judicial District of Puerto Plata.
During the raid, in addition to the arrest of Henríquez Beatón, 70 women were rescued who were being subjected to aggravated pimping, three vehicles, a firearm, the approximate sum of RD $ 112,801.85 pesos and around US $ 2,650.61, various electronic equipment, besides invoices of the collection of the exits of the young people.
While Arisleida Pérez Vásquez was arrested during a raid on a villa where the couple resides, in the municipality of Sosúa, which was carried out through court order No. 609-01-2018-ADM-00378, issued by said Judged, also seized in that place the approximate sum of RD $ 327,800.00 pesos and about US $ 13,948 US dollars, among other evidence related to the case.
In the same way, in the Barrio Latino Restaurant Bar, searched by court order No. 609-01-2018-ADM-00379, motorcycles and documents referring to a car rental company linked to the case were detained.
Coordinated institutional strategies against crime
The Communication and Press Directorate of the Attorney General's Office explained that the members of the aforementioned institutions raided several businesses in the area after obtaining information during the investigation process that allegedly in those centers they were engaged in trafficking in persons and to procuring.
During the investigations, the investigative body points out, different tests were collected that allowed confirming the serious facts denounced and that put an end to the closure of the businesses and the arrest of their owners.
The authorities specified that part of the victims, whose names are omitted to protect their identities, were taken to a protection center authorized for these purposes, with the aim of offering them the necessary attention and safeguarding their physical integrity.
Regarding the actions against these problems, they warned that there will be a joint monitoring and monitoring plan that will be developed by the Public Prosecutor's Office, CESTUR and other institutions, to prevent and counteract human trafficking and procuring, including the National Council for Children. and Adolescence (CONANI), to supervise and prevent minors from participating in these acts.
