Is anyone else underwhelmed by the act of SEAL snipers taking out targets from "25 or so yards"? That's a whopping 75 feet!!!!

Are you a vet? Not that you have to be to discuss bullshit like this, but we are clearly talking about different things. As long as you mention it, do you know what tools they used in dispatching the pirates? And how they differ from a standard sniper weapon?

My point is that the media, as usual is acting kind of silly over some stuff that isn't as dramatic as they want it to sound. I mean, the pitcher's mound is 60 feet 6 inches from home plate, so the shot's they took were somewhat less than a throw from home plate to second. When a standard issue enlistee qualifies with a rifle, the closest target is three times farther away than that.

Okay. I'm a real life vet, and have never played Call of Duty. I have first hand experience with, well, ships and weapons and using both at the same time. If you have similar, or more experience, then say so. That way I will have a better handle on what you are saying. But seriously, some of you are making up shit to embellish this.

Don't forget-I'm criticizing the media, not the guys who made 75 foot shots in calm seas on targets sitting in a lifeboat, which their destroyer was towing. Those dudes were badass.

Sure the political questions are more interesting, but that isn't the point of this thread. It is the media that I am annoyed with. And now, armchair/internet commandos that have never had contact with reality. That that they shouldn't speak, it just makes wonder about the potential benefits of a mandatory draft.

As for the Iran mission, that didn't fail because of lack of training. It failed because of an ill-timed aircraft ground mishap, that could have happened anywhere, anytime, which is why aviation is dangerous even when nobody is shooting at you.

Countries with a navy/marines who aren't involved in some major military conflict should be out there partolling ALL the waters where pirating is active. They should be given the authority to use deadly force (NATO/UN/G20 or their country of origin) and if need be they should deny the pirates the use of ships capable of getting out to the shipping lanes by sinking them ships in port while docked!

Im not really over or underwhelmed by the acts. Navy Seals get into alot more complicated and intense situations than the one discussed. You also have to realize that Seal snipers are some of the best the military had to offer. All branches of the military send their snipers to school on the upper west coast. They are trained very, very well. They did a great job.
