The Philadelphia Eagles' trade up to the No. 2 of the NFL Draft is suddenly not the most surprising news of the day. Josh Norman is now a free agent.

The Carolina Panthers announced the stunning news Wednesday that the team has rescinded the franchise tag for cornerback Josh Norman, making him an unrestricted free agent.

"After a number of conversations with Josh's agent we realized that a long-term deal was not attainable," general manager Dave Gettleman said. "We have decided to rescind the Franchise Tag freeing Josh to immediately become a UFA. We thank Josh for all his contributions and truly wish him well."

Around the NFL will have more on this story soon.

Was he really that good??? Or good for the Panthers scheme.

I don't know man.. this dude has had two years of consistently good play. Plus he had to work him self up from the bottom to start for the Panthers. That means dude has fire. Plus he is 6'0. I would sign him in a heart beat.

I mean WOW... right before the draft to.

I wonder why they did this.

The stupid ass Giants went and gave Janoris Jenkins all of that fucking money. This dude probably asking for 100 million and he has a argument if Janoris Jenkins got what he got. He still a 1 year wonder though.

Unless Josh was asking something in the neighborhood of 20 million a year I can't see how what he was asking was unreasonable. He bet on himself and turned down the deal that would've paid him 7-8 million annually last year. That secondary isn't that great and this is coming from someone who is a Panthers fan.

The big problem now... is how many teams are left that can pay him the type of money that he wants. I know we still have some cap room, but I don't want us paying 100 million to a corner back unless your name is Revis.

GM Gettleman says his price is too high. They were nowhere close to a long term deal. Thanks for the memories Josh. Hope he ends up in the NFC East so him and Twinkletoes can battle some more.

Gettlemen is a arrogant piece of shit. Incompetent too. Cam saved his ass last year by dragging a bunch of trash to the super bowl. His shit will catch up with him soon enough. Hes the same guy who said he wasnt sure if Cam was a franchise QB a year and half ago.

Christ. Gettleman has yet to earn my respect as a GM. Hurney got Luke and Cam. We should have at least tried to get something for him. And that trade for Jared Allen was fucking stupid.

They couldn't tag him and trade him for something? So, pretty much you put Cam out there with a bunch of scrubs (I didn't know Jericho Cotchery was even in the league) last year with the focus being on the defense. He takes you to the Super Bowl and NOW you wanna go cheap on defense, too? Why not cut Johnathan Stewart, keep Norman, and draft a RB on the cheap?

Raiders need to make it happen. We need another corner, then focus on getting a safety in the draft.

The fuck is going on?

Dudes retiring early teams making wack ass moves.

Something is in the Gatorade?

I don't understand it when essentially this year was about trying to lock up our own guys to deals. He can't use the excuse that there is no cap space unlike in previous years.

Gettleman is a cheap ass and honestly if this draft sucks he needs to be put on notice. I thought the point of getting under the cap was so that you could sign the players groom from the draft. Not to mention Greg Hardy, Steve Smith and Deangelo Williams went to different teams and did pretty damn good.

I think it shows they don't feel he's a shut down corner and more of a product of their system and the talent around him

Josh is a wall corner and that shouldnt lower his value, yeah he doesnt play man alot but he can zone wall off half the field , depends on what you like

Yes Titans need to get on this
Save us from picking a corner

He wants a loooooooooot of money plus word is he's a real headache in the locker-room. He probably won't be that great on his next team, but the team after that he'll probably be a beast.

Think he was kind of cancerous in the locker room too....is he Percy like? Dunno but remember him and Cam brawling in practice ? (Ok they was pushing and hugging and shit ) but I'm surprised
