Joe Johnson Trade To Brooklyn Nets Completed

The Nets have all but completed a trade for Joe Johnson, the six-time all-star, league sources tell NetsDaily. In return, the Hawks get expiring contracts and a first round pick. NOT included in the trade: MarShon Brooks and Gerald Green. The Nets also didn't have to give up their own first round pick in the trade. The trade will not be finalized until July 11.

Johnson, who is still owed $89.3 million over the next three years, was dealt for Anthony Morrow; Jordan Farmar, who will be bought out at Atlanta's expense; Jordan Williams, Johan Petro, a signed-and-traded DeShawn Stevenson and the Rockets 2013 lottery protected first round pick.

As a result of the trade, the Nets are now eligible for the full $5 million mid-level exception (which they reportedly will use to sign Bosnian forward Mirza Teletovic) and the $1.95 million bi-annual exception. They also retain two trade exceptions worth $3.0 million and $1.30 million, acquired in the Gerald Wallace trade; $3.0 million in cash considerations; Kris Humphries Bird Rights; all their own first rounders from 2013 through 2018 and the draft rights to two top European players, Bojan Bogdanovic and Toko Shenghelia.

I guess sometimes you have to take a step-back to move forward. Hawks will miss the playoffs this year, but frees up cap space. Not sure what we will possibly do with freed up cap space though. Maybe Ferry flips some assets for Howard while keeping Josh Smith and Horford? We traded one very expensive, but bland piece of steak for a bunch of McDonald's patties.

Why would the Nets do that?

Remember Steve Nash and Joe Johnson together. Joe Johnson is expensive, overrated and doesn't give a damn, but dude is talented. He's a great #2 option for Deron. Add in Lopez, Marshon Brooks and Kris Humphries and I think the Nets take the Hawks' playoff spot.

this means no Dwight, it looks like the only place for him now is the Lakers...

your wrong they're right on cue to get Dwight

Nets can get Joe Johnson and Dwight Howard while keeping Deron Williams and Gerald Wallace

http://www.netsdaily.com/2012/7/2/3...ing-joe-johnson-dwight-howard-while-retaining

With NI confirming reports that the Nets are interested in getting BOTH Dwight and JJ, a lot of us have been curious to find out if it could be even possible to get the two of them together. Here it is. I will detail how we can get Joe Johnson AND Dwight Howard AND still use our MLE, and BAE exceptions, all the while retaining Deron Williams AND Gerald Wallace!

Cap holds are shown in yellow. The salary cap and cap space are shown after each transaction, as is the depth chart. The parenthesis around the cap space indicates a negative number, i.e. above the cap. The Nets need to remain above the cap (at least $58,044,000) while remaining below the luxury tax (at least $70,307,000) to retain the use of the MLE and BAE. Once these exceptions are used, the Nets have a HARD cap of $4 million over the luxury tax ($74,307,000).

Note: I may have an optimistic outlook on the players and salaries for the MLE and BAE. You can substitute the players with others (Novak for Teletovic for instance). The main point is that they can be used at all while getting Dwight and Johnson and retaining Deron and Wallace. Also, I'm not paid at all to know this, so if I can, I'm sure the Killer B's can too.

Cap situation before at the very start of the season.

In this scenario, the Nets renounce the rights to Kris Humphries, Damion James, Shelden Williams, Sundiata Gaines, and Armon Johnson. They also renounce the two trade exceptions from the Gerald Wallace trade. The only players under contract are Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro, MarShon Brooks and Jordan Williams. All the figures for salary and cap holds are from Shamsports.com

The order of next six transactions does not matter.

Re-sign Deron Williams to a max deal.

This does not affect our cap situation so it's best to handle it first. The first year of the deal starts at $17,177,795 with 7.5% raises each year.

Re-Sign Gerald Wallace to a $40 million deal over 4 years.

This is the reported agreement reached with Gerald Wallace. Assuming 7.5% increases each year, the first year salary would be about $8,950,000.

Sign and Trade Brook Lopez, along with MarShon Brooks, Jordan Williams, the rights to Bojan Bogdanovic, the Nets 2013 first round draft pick, and the Rockets 2013 protected first round draft pick for Dwight Howard.

Dwight Howard's salary for this season is $19,536,360. According to Larry Coon, (http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q81) that means we have to send out at least $5 million less than the incoming salary, i.e. $14,536,360. MarShon Brooks makes $1,160,040 and Jordan Willams makes $762,195. Combined, they make $1,922,235. Brook Lopez's starting salary would have to be $12,614,125 ($14,536,360 minus $1,922,235). This is less than the max salary he can get so it would work under the CBA. The contract would likely be front loaded. Finally, since we'd possibly have less than 12 players, we'd be charged a cap hold equal to the minimum salary of $473,604.

Re-sign Gerald Green to a $12.8 million deal over 4 years using part of the Mid-Level Exception (MLE)

Using the MLE, the Nets would be limited to 4 years and 4.5% annual raises. The first year salary is $3 million dollars.
_235_20Sign_20Green_medium.jpg

Sign Mirza Teletovic to an $8.5 million deal over 4 years using the remainder of the MLE

The MLE can be split to use amongst several players, but the total combined salary of those players can not exceed $5 million dollars. The contract would also be limited to 4 years and 4.5% annual raises. The first year salary is $2 million dollars.
_236_20Sign_20Teletovic_medium.jpg

Sign Kenyon Martin to a $3 million deal over 2 years using the Bi-Annual Exception (BAE)

Once a team uses the MLE or BAE they have a hard cap of $4 million above the luxury tax (called the luxury tax apron) (http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q25). The BAE can be for up to $1.957 million. To make sure we are under the luxury tax apron after the next transaction, the starting salary must be less than that. The remainder of the BAE ($457,000) is renounced so it does not count against the cap.

Sign and Trade DeShawn Stevenson, along with Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, and Johan Petro for Joe Johnson

This trade has to happen after the Nets use their exceptions because it takes them over the luxury tax. Since the Nets would be over the luxury tax after the trade and because Joe Johnson makes more than $19.6 million, the maximum incoming salary would be 125% + $100,000 of the outgoing salary. That means the Nets need to come up with $15,722,116 in salary to make this trade work. The combined salaries of Jordan Farmar ($4.25M) , Anthony Morrow ($4M) and Johan Petro ($3.5M) is $11.75 million. That means DeShawn Stevenson's starting (and likely only) year salary would have to be at least $3,972,116 ($15,722,116 minus $11,750,000).

Fill out the rest of the roster with scrubs With the hard cap of $74,307,000, the Nets would have to fill the rest of the roster with players with 0 years of experience. Hopefully, the D-leaugue scouting comes in handy.

your wrong they're right on cue to get Dwight

Didn't read all those scenarios, but D.A., Broussard, etc on Twitter are reporting that Nets are saying that "Dwight blew it in March" and the Magic are not even entertaining talks with the Nets and they won't have the cap space to bring him in as a free agent with 2 max guys already if Dwill resigns...

He did. He blew it in LA, too. I think many teams are interested in his talent as a player, but not him as a person. Wherever he goes, the whambulance will follow.

the crazy thing is dwight could've went to okc for ibaka and harden but he was so in lust with the nets dat he ended up fucking up dat trade now nets look like they don't even want him now

The talks may have ended, but it's still possible, the piece's are still there to make it happen...plus Orlando knows dude is walking next july.

Nets gets:
Dwight Howard

Orlando gets:
Brook Lopez(nets would have to resign)
MarShon Brooks
Jordan Williams,

Rockets 2013 protected first round draft pick

I think when/if he realizes that Brooklyn is dead, his agent or Shaq or whoever has been giving him this bad advice will convince him that LA is the only place he can go since they have exactly what the Magic would want in Bynum...

:smh: jordan williams and that Houston draft pick are in the JJ deal, plus i don't think the Magic care if they get anything back for Dwight now. They will let him walk as long as he does NOT get what he wants...

right my bad

It's being reported that after acquiring JJ AND re signing D Will (which is also being reported), the Nets won't have the loot.

Hmm...interesting post, OP.
What if the Nets plan on shipping Joe to Orlando with Lopez and a few other parts/contracts/money?

This is just what I was thinking. My gut tells me that the Nets keep Bojan Bogdanovic, tho.

this shit looks 100000000x times worst than two years ago

Tell 'em again cause I don't think they heard you.

Lebron messed up with The Decision & the Heat celebration event. But that's it. He wasn't ridiculous like Dwight. Lebron played and kept his mouth shut that season and then chose a team. You can critique him on how he handled it but this Dwight thing right here, man this is stoooooooooooooopid.

Marvin to Utah for devin Harris....ferry blowing up the team!

:lol:Ferry already Executive of the Year with these moves. He's been at the job for about a week and already moved 2 of the Hawks biggest contracts. Always wondered why these black players never wanted to go to Atlanta in free agency especially Dwight since its his home town. Ferry just opened up cap room for 2 max players next off season...

Watch Joe Fuck ass get there and ball like his life depended on it

sent from your girls crib

This happens with virtually ALL players who leave Atlanta teams:

Jason Terry has a ring now.
Vick cleaned up his life.
Deion Sanders still killin it in retirement.
Brett Favre had a stellar career after the Falcons.
Matt Schaub became 1st string Quarterback for Houston.

Everyone except Dominique, who is doing TitleMax commercials w/ Mini Me. :smh:

I heard from a really reliable source that the Hawks are trying to move Josh Smith before February to pursue CP3 and D12 prior next summer now that Brooklyn cannot get D12.
