They tend to be the ones who take our love and presence for granted.

I've grown to realize that the belief that we are tied to our family no matter what is bullshit.

Anyone who doesn't have your best interest at heart and acts in a way that is somehow harmful to you or is just simply negative and toxic doesn't have the right to continue doing so based simply on our being family.

I've learned to not only love people from afar but also realized that doing so enables you to continue loving them as opposed to remaining close to them which can result in your feeling resentful towards them which will slowly erode those feelings and turn them into something dark.

I've also come to the realization that you can love a previous version of a person but not the current version of them or who they've become if that makes sense.

I have an older nephew who was once the nicest, kindest kid whose now grown to be a toxic, negative, know it all, disrespectful person and who very recently lied to a family member telling him that others in the family (including myself) were speaking out and acting against him which was complete bullshit and almost caused some serious family drama.

I didn't confront him about it and he isn't even aware we know. I advised everyone else to do the same and they agreed. I've gone out of my way to not interact with him and plan on keeping it that way at least for the immediate future. And mind you this is someone I helped raise and was very close with until recent years.

But in order for me to continue loving him as I do and not totally destroying our relationship it became necessary to cut him back.
