JERRY RICE: Moss' Laziness A Slap In The Face

Jerry Rice is widely regarded as the best wide receiver ever to play the game, but he says he wasn’t the most talented. Randy Moss, Rice says, was more talented.

And Rice doesn’t mean that as a compliment.

On ESPN Radio this morning, Rice said he always had a hard time watching Moss because Rice hated to see a player so naturally gifted not making the most of those gifts.

“It was hard for me to swallow because I was not as talented and I had to work harder,” Rice said. “To see a guy with that much talent not give it 100 percent, it was almost like a little slap in the face. But Randy was Randy.”

Rice said he wonders what kind of player Moss would have been with a better work ethic.

“He could have been one of the greatest if he had worked just a little bit harder,” Rice said. “I don’t think he wanted to give it 100 percent. You never knew what you were going to get with Randy. Sometimes you’d get the unbelievable guy, the amazing guy. Other times you’d get the guy that took a couple plays off.”

In Rice’s view, the unbelievable, amazing guy didn’t show up to work often enough.

Rice needs to sit down. He just said the same shit about Ochocinco. EVERYONE's an UNDERachiever 'cept for him.

They are. Have you seen his workouts?

It's not up to HIM to blow his own horn. Moss was the 2nd best receiver in history, so how much BETTER could he have been?? Never was gonna surpass Rice.

(And NO ONE's ever questioned Ochocinco's work ethic. Dude has always worked hard.)

Well is it true? Rice had a great understanding of his limits and worked hard to mask them to look legendary on the field... and it didn't hurt having 2 great QBs and a pass oriented offense.

He knows or witnesses their ability and compared it against his own. You could watch randy and ocho in games and see if the play is not designed primarily for them, they ain't selling shit... hell, randy even had a tell so you know it wasn't going to him.

Shut the fuck up dumb bitch.

If Rice says you're lazy, then your fuckin lazy.

Rice is just protecting his own reputation and status. Pretty obvious. He doesn't know shit about Moss, beyond the stereotype. And he's still pissed that Moss broke his TD record.

And the fact is, if a supposedly half-assed Moss nearly surpassed Rice as a player then it doesn't say much for Rice. If Moss had decided to hang on until he was 40 the way Rice did he would've easily topped all of his records.

He knows plenty about Moss from his blow up against St. Louis in the 99 divisional round down.

Right, we're going back to '99 now, and we're forgetting the record-shattering rookie year before and the ten seasons after where the SKINNY-ass Moss played full season after full season in sensational fashion.

BTW, Moss helped THREE DIFFERENT quarterbacks to the Top 15 QB ratings in history (only one who's an HOFer). Coincidence??? Rice did it with only TWO quarterbacks (both HOFers). :smh:

I wish more of the LEGENDARY players would speak up cause shit needed to be said! SAD, we are truly in the era where people are happy with GOOD ENOUGH. What the fuck happened to the standard of GREATNESS being clearly defined by hard work=excellence. Man, Jordan didn't take plays off even when he played with the fucking FLU!!

"Everyone's an underachiever but him"....NIGGA, them stats dont LIE...THEY ARE!!! Think about all the improvements and help available to players to improve their game that weren't available to players of Rice's era...mane, if Jerry had shit like HGH and them damn portable hyperbaric chambers during his run...SHHHIIIIIIT, you already know CHICO!!

Jerry Rice played in a juice and drug infested era. Stop mythologizing the RECENT past.

:lol::yes:
Exactly, and when he left the PATS they stopped throwing him the ball. How is that lazy? And the Raiders were sorry as shit.

Put Rice on my Cowboys team with sorry ass no deep threat Romo and see how far down the list he would be.

Rice is a legend that was not born with great athletic gifts like Moss he worked hard at his game & was still good when he left the 9ers even went to the Pro bowl on the Raiders...

he didn't need the ball to be thrown to him to be motivated to be a great/complete WR.....these diva's now couldn't lace Rice's shoes....

Moss is known to give up on plays other CB's have said this...you actually see it too...you think the PATS/Vikings/Raiders would get rid of him if he was going 100% on the field?

why is T.O still a good WR at his age & more teams are willing to pay him to play coming off an injury than a healthy Moss?

T.O has great work ethic & gives 100% on the field even when he is blocking....

Who is this? And why did you post him?

Deion Sanders: Two words or less, when I call out a name, tell me what you think.

Darrelle Revis: OK.

Sanders: T.O.

Revis: Slouch.

Sanders: Randy Moss.

Revis: Probably say slouch, too.

Sanders: Chad Ochocinco.

Revis: Competitor.

Sanders: Steve Smith.

Revis: Competitor.

Sanders: Andre Johnson.

Revis: Beast.

Terrell Owens has to be up there too. He learned how to train through Jerry Rice. Moss has been blessed with physical talent and does not put the work in. He can't run all the routes. He can run a fly and a fade. Imagine if Moss had played with Rice.

Word! it sucks having garbage QBs like Tom Brady throwing you the ball:rolleyes:

And it sucks for Rice that Moss broke his TD record in just his FIRST season playing with the type of quality QB that Rice had the luxury of playing his WHOLE career with.

I think Moss plays the game but it doesn't define him, nor doesn't define his passion or some would say his lack of passion for it.

Football version of Rasheed Wallace,he can easily walk away from the game.

Rasheed Wallace didn't perform anywhere close to Moss' level, nor play as high a percentage of his teams' games.

Moss missed just 6 games in 13 years. He played 11 FULL 16-game seasons out of 13.

Sheli lead the league in INT's

Float on Lil nigga

Ain't u same dude that sat on a stool and ur feet weren't touching the ground....sorry to break it to u hommie ur the lil nigga here...if those WR caught most those passes and not tip the ball he wouldn't lead the league in INT

I wish I could have Montana and young throw me the ball.

Steve Bono
Elvis Grbac
Jeff Garcia
Rick Mirer
Rich Gannon
Jeff Kemp
Jim Drukenmiller
Steve Stenstrom

were also Jerry's quarterbacks, but people don't talk about that.

I bet Jerry wishes he didn't have to block or run out every play even though the ball wasn't coming to him. If only Jerry was afforded the opportunity to just run 3 different routes. If only Jerry could play alongside a future HOFer like Chris Carter. I've never seen Jerry line up and then put his hands on his hips when the ball was snapped.

All Randy needed was a guy who could throw the deep ball.
