A recent incident at the elementary school on the Grambling State University campus that resulted in a noose hanging around a small child’s neck has left university officials scrambling for answers.

Obviously they meant no physical harm to the kids.

Wonder what positive they were trying to convey.
 
I believe they could have made their point without the visual...you don't put that picture in the mind of a young child.
And what now if one of them decides to play this with their little sister?...it was just plain stupid.

because if they didnt explain why black people got lynched...then that little visual was worthless and stupid.

they could have went about it in a different way.
if they really wanted media attention that bad, then they should have put that rope around a little white girl and had a bunch of white kids standing around.

Those children are babies, they don't need to be knowing about all that shit just now, maybe when they hit middle school, but hell no, not at that age she's 6, who the fuck could those people be so stupid to alow that disturbing ass photo to be taken.

and racism and prejudice does'nt exisit at that age? I dont think I would have taken it that far either, but extreme solutions are needed to deal with extreme problems and given the current events it seems we ALL need a lil shock value. we sweep a lot of things under the rug and let a lot of lil shit slide until one day it blows up in our face and truth it, some shit needs to be nipped in the bud at the very beginning. its bad enough our generation does'nt utilize our full mental capacity, so what the hell is going to happen to OUR kids generation??? I hope they did give those children a full explination of the history behind lynching, but its time we expose our kids to REALITY and thier history and remove them from this bullshit they watch on TV.

I remember when I saw pictures of lynchings the first time. The mutilated bodies and white people standing around grinning with the whole family, including the kids having picnics and what have you. I dont think their demonstration teaches much if anything of the reality of a lynching, american rascism, or its history.

Most kids today don't knw what a noose means. I think it was a good way to teach them why everyone was so upset about what happend in Jena but, the should have just did it in the classroom. We, as a people are very quick to let our passed go and when you let your passed go, you are doomed to repeat it at some level. Every child should learn what our people went through. And I'm not just talking about slavery! In a lot of ways Jim Crow was worse for our people.

I'd want to hear the administrators' and educators' opinion and motive (the story behind the story) before I throw them under the bus.

Agreed OUR children need to learn ALL of our historical journey along with the trials that accompanied them, but I wouldn't be having that shit there with my kids, Hell No. :angry: Fuck a field trip that demonstrates how our anscestors and foreparents were hung from trees in which the kids are to participate. :angry: What kind of backward shit is that? There's no edifying intellectual exercise in that shit.

There's enough pictorial and documented information available to have a sensible discussion on this subject with questions and answers sessions, mini essays, etc.. to try to convey to our children the importance of our histrorical journey to date.

The teachers obviously are lacking in the DEPTH of self knowledge necessary to approach this in an appropriate manner with children at that age level. Looking at the kids, preferably IMHO a few years later would make for a more sensible age after they have began a foundation of historical facts to balance this sort of information with.
