Jay-Z Tells Juan Epstein His Takeover Diss Was 100 Times Better Than Ether.

i like real shit. ether was hot but the realness was missing.
i never really like takeover either.
but i do know one fact.

Jay bought Nas back from obscurity.
nooooobody was checkin for that nigga since the firm flopped.

ether was the coldest diss record of all-time..that nigga is delusional..& bacc in 2001 i was a huge jay-z fan..but to say that random shit to quote Nas,.... "NEGRO PLEASE"!!!

I gotta roll with Takeover.

One of the hardest diss records of all, highly underated is Quik:yes:

@MC Eiht - You left out the "g" cause ain't no G in you
:itsawrap:

Nah, after Takeover Nas had to make a move, and he made his move. Ether brought Nas back.

Yeah, Quik murdered him throughout the whole song. Quik went off on Everlast also on the Menace II Society soundtrack.

If Jay-Z would have made Ether it wouldn't have been received the same way.

Because he made the mistake of facing someone lesser than him, and a lot of people were naturally going to go for the underdog. Just like people root for Boise State.

Look at the amount of people who hate on Jay-Z on this board. Dude gets a negative topic almost daily. Why? Unlike most rappers he's probably the most guarded, and no one truly knows him, but yet you would think he was Gucci Mane the way some dudes act. Do you think those people would say his song was better? Who makes a diss song and then people go awwww, that was too low of a blow.

The chips were stacked for the underdog from the beginning.

Where I'm from for a guy to be so concerned about another dudes looks, he would be called gay.

And :smh: @ Jay-Z not giving Ron Browz or Nas credit but giving the whiteboy his due.

Lets be honest, the Ether beat wasnt that hot. It was mediocre at its best. If a mediocre rapper used that beat, none of yall would be saying the same thing about it..

On the real...the L he took on Renegade was way worse than Ether..... Em flipped that song so hard Jay should have just took his verse off

Sad thing is, Jay had prep time, because the original song was for Royce. They took Royce's part off and gave it to Jay

Happy B'ether

"You scribbled in ya notepad and created ya life."

:itsawrap:

I tried not to negate Nas completely off that one line, but it held so much weight, I had no choice. It became a grown man vs. a child at that point, it didn't matter what he had to say on Ether IMO.

"you just don't understand all the bullshit that he writes(fuck is you sayin)"

Blueprint 2 was epic

"And y'all buy the shit, caught up in the hype..."

This track destroyed both Takeover and Ether, and to this day resonates harder than both. I just posted it for 2 ONE 3 this morning, but fuck it...

Hardest, realest, and truest track of that whole battle.

:yes::yes:

Fuck the Bullshit...

...Ether was lethal. I actually like Jay-Z better, but I can't even front on Nasir's 'Ether'. Yeah, some of it was childish, but the shit was funny as hell.

I'm listening to "Ether" right now, and I'm still surprised Nas had that shit in him.

"J.J. Evans get gunned up and clapped quick..."

As a huge Jay Z fan I thought it was :itsawrap: for Nas, and then I listen to that Stillmatic intro and was like :eek:

I know the streets thirst water like Moses
Walking through the hot desert searching to be free
This is my end and my new beginning Nostalgia
Alpha and Omega places, it's like a glitch in the matrix
I seen it at all, did it all, most of y'all been pop for a minute
Spitters, sinners and the game get rid of y'all
Y'all got there but y'all didn't get it all, I want my style back
Hate to cease y'all plan it's the rap reaper man

And then came Ether, but the last verse ripped into Jay Z soul to say the least, some of this stuff was personal rumor has it that Jaz leak this info.

Y'all niggas deal with emotions like bitches
What's sad is I love you 'cause you're my brother
You traded your soul for riches
My child, I've watched you grow up to be famous
And now I smile like a proud dad, watchin his only son that made it
You seem to be only concerned with dissin women
Were you abused as a child, scared to smile, they called you ugly?

Well life is hard, hug me, don't reject me
Or make records to disrespect me, blatent or indirectly
In '88 you was gettin chased through your buildin
Callin my crib and I ain't even give you my numbers
All I did was gave you a style for you to run with
Smilin in my face, glad to break bread with the god
Wearin Jaz chains, no tecs, no cash, no cars
No jail bars Jigga, no pies, no case
Just Hawaiian shirts, hangin with little Chase
You a fan, a phony, a fake, a pussy, a Stan

I still whip your ass, you thirty-six in a karate class
You Tae-bo hoe, tryna' work it out, you tryna' get brolic?
Ask me if I'm tryna' kick knowledge
Nah, I'm tryna' kick the shit you need to learn though
That ether, that shit that make your soul burn slow
Is he Dame Diddy, Dame Daddy or Dame Dummy?
Oh, I get it, you Biggie and he's Puffy

Rockafeller died of AIDS, that was the end of his chapter
And that's the guy y'all chose to name your company after?
Put it together, I rock hoes, y'all rock fellas
And now y'all try to take my spot, fellas?
Philly's hot rock fellas, put you in a dry spot, fellas
In a pine box with nine shots from my glock, fellas
Foxy got you hot 'cause you kept your face in her puss
What you think, you gettin girls now 'cause of your looks?
Ne-gro please

You no mustache havin, with whiskers like a rat
Compared to Beans you wack
And your man stabbed Un and made you take the blame
You ass, went from Jaz to hangin with Caine, to Herb, to Big
And, Eminem murdered you on your own shit
You a dick-ridin faggot, you love the attention
Queens niggas run you niggas, ask Russell Simmons

Ha, R-O-C get gunned up and clapped quick
J.J. Evans get gunned up and clapped quick
Your whole damn record label gunned up and clapped quick
Shaun Carter to Jay-Z, damn you on Jaz dick
So little shorty's gettin gunned up and clapped quick
How much of Biggie's rhymes is gon' come out your fat lips?
Wanted to be on every last one of my classics
You pop shit, apologize, nigga, just ask Kiss

And then here comes the votes via Hot97 and the infamous youtube video (below):

Takeover was more like opinions from a fan point of view, it also contain a few lies here and there dude.

TRUTH...
Jay spit truth on Takeover.Nothing he said was false. The beat was hard,he destroyed Prodigy and killed Nas in one verse about his rap career and alluded to fucking his baby's mother(which he did).Nas waited forever to come out with Ether which pretty much just clowned Jay's looks and said other non important bullshit. It was more personal and emotional, but what did he really say? Then after that he REFUSED to keep the battle going. He essentially forfeited. But people wanted Nas to win so bad that he had momentum from merely responding.

Ether is/was the perfect roast. The simmering. Few cats will observe the song's structure. Along with the track. Some say it was "weak," but it's like 'breaking news.' Plus, dissing wasn't/isn't Nas' lane. He entered that lane and took over. Bottom line.

take over was hard n had u like o shit wow n still nodding ur head...ether had u like dayum..wow..funeral music..moment of silence

he didn't wait forever to drop a diss though, he dropped the "h to the homo" freestyle and nobody was fucking with it
