he use to own 1/3 of 1%, but after the russian bought the team his stake dropped to 1/15 of 1%. He also owns "just under a fifth of a percent" of the Barclay arena.

I wonder if kanye West knew this, he would have still rapped about asking jay-z to drop kris humphries off the team.

in all fairness, Jay-z as parlayed his miniscule ownership of the Nets into a lot. They used his image to make the Nets seem hip and cool, but jigga man as also gotten a lot from the deal.

a lot of people in and who listen to hip hop actually believed Jay-z "owned" the Nets and was actually making decisions about players... Him being a minority owner has really helped his brand.It makes him seem like this incredible hip hop business man, and like the article stated, there will be a roca wear store(a company he does not own) at the Barclay Center and the Nets are using the advertising firm he co-owns.

The Nets are using him, but he is also using them, so I guess it's a win win for everyone.

They needed a black face to sell Brooklyn on giving up huge tax-breaks and subsidies on the new arena for a team owned by a billionaire Russian.

They also use a black face when it comes to discussions of minority ownership of NBA teams. Whenever someone questions the NBA on it's minority ownership outreach program, they point to people like Jay-Z as a sign of progress....1/15th of 1%....progress.
