Please list the names of actresses in the 80s that were as popular as Vanity who looked like her. (since she was so interchangeable)
Too many folks judge the past by today's norms.
Black actresses in the 80s ran the gamut, from chocolate to high yellow. Full on media integration hadn't taken place yet, so movies like Action Jackson, The Last Dragon, etc. were "black movies" and Vanity's popularity was primarily in the black community.
And yes, her look was exotic in the 80s.
They didn't start to edge out darker hued sistas from roles until the late 90s - early 00s. That's about when you started seeing fewer non-mixed black actresses; when they stopped promoting "black" movies.

My point was that Vanity's look was not typical. That is exotic.
The typical mixed chick looks more like Lisa Bonet, IMO.
Its easier to find a chick that looks like Janet than it is to find a chick that looks like Vanity.
And I like both of them.
We just disagree. Its cool. Everybody's opinions are valid on stuff like this.
I mean if we're being exact, I would have to say Janet looks better now, considering the circumstances.
I agree with your definition of exotic, I can look at her and see that she has a Caucasian parent. Below is what I would consider exotic. Chili from TLC has an exotic look too.... IMO.
Don't care if it's exotic or not...chick was just beautiful and sexy. ...lol, and most definitely every biracial chick doesn't look like her....for reference, see Rayne Pryor, lol
