BSB, better known as Brown Sugar Bourbon, is a whiskey liqueur that’s angered and revolted whiskey diehards the world across for years. Brown Sugar Bourbon carries a label infamous for flying in the face of TTB labeling standards – the bureau that regulates alcoholic labeling and design – and pairs a low ABV with a particularly high sugar content. BSB’s additives and bottling at only 30% ABV signal that the product can’t be legally defined as bourbon, though the label will try and convince you otherwise.

For fans that may try and seek solace in their recent BSB 103 bottling, you’ll find little comfort. 103 may have an elevated (and legal bourbon ABV) alcohol content – 51.5%ABV – but it still features sugar and cinnamon additives, and therefore is no more a bourbon than its weaker sibling.

Coming at a time when many celebrities are joining the ranks of whiskey brand owners or creative directors, it’s hard to picture a product that could have been less desirable to acquire, except save for Conor McGregors Proper 12 Blended Irish Whiskey, that is (although his stake has now been sold off). There have been recent partnerships forged that will no doubt fare much better – both in sales and in the court of whiskey drinkers opinions – such as the wildly successful pairing between Matthew McConaughey and Wild Turkey to release Longbranch.

It seems likely that the acquisition of Brown Sugar Bourbon by Jamie Foxx is purely a financial decision . The brand certainly does move product, much like other flavored whiskeys such as Fireball, whom moved 5.6 million cases of product in 2019. For fans of real bourbon though, it’s just not a move in the whiskey world many fans will find themselves getting jazzed about.

There's a big (and growing) number of black folks who are bourbon fans. Look up Black Bourbon Society and Black Bourbon Hunters

Plenty of Black folk drink whiskey, the list goes on and on: Shit, Crown Royal alone is probably one of the most popular whiskey's among Black folk I know.

Scotch Whiskey:

Single Malt: Macallan, The Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Oban, etc.
Blended: Johnnie Walker, Chevis Regal

Bourbon Whiskey:
Straight: Jack Daniels, Wild Turkey

Blended: Crown Royal,

he cant think he gonna convert ni99as to whiskey ...? :puzzled:

Homie, I have gone through all kinds of phases when it comes to liquor. Started with Jack, then to cheap brandy (E&J, Christian Bros etc) to cognac, then tequila, then single malt, then high end Cognac to know almost exclusively drinking Bourbon.

There are quite a few black people drinking Whiskey and the master distiller at Bulleit is a black woman. He latest Blenders selection is great once the bottle opens up.

Hell, uncle nearest is a black owned company that started sourcing whiskey and plans on distilling their own if they haven't already done so.

C’mon Zulu, these bgol cats don’t wanna here true knowledge. Black people only drink Henny and ciroq.

Pops had a bottle of johnnie Walker b4 I knew it had alcohol in it.

I might drink the black bottle henny but other than that, none of my well off dudes mess w it.

Nothing wrong w henny, but there’s much better cognac that don’t make you feel nauseous for the next 24 hrs.

Just picked up Nearest from New Ro shop rite liquor store. Next trip I’ll try the other one u mentioned

Carry on....

From the rock, Diddy, jayz and george Clooney, these money in alcohol. If he rebrands it well, it could sell and he can flip it for a lot of money
Why do they always market shitty liquor to black folks? If he upgrades the process and aging he might be able to make a real whiskey. Not some maple syrup low grade bullshit.

Uncle Nearest is the best whiskey I have ever had...hands down...and the story behind it is amazing.

"Sometime in the 1850s, when Jack Daniel was a boy, he went to work for Dan Call, a preacher, grocer, and distiller.[3] According to company lore, the preacher was a busy man, and when he saw promise in young Jack, he taught him how to run his whiskey still.

However, in June 2016, The New York Times published a story identifying Daniel's true teacher as Green, one of Call's slaves.[4] The newspaper reported that historians and locals have known the Green story for decades.[4] Green's story – according to the article, "built on oral history and the thinnest of archival trails" – may never be definitively proved.[4] A USA Today article published in July 2017 corrected the Nearis spelling of his name and confirmed that Jack Daniel said his correct name was Nathan "Nearest" Green.[3]

Documentation shows that Green was owned by a firm known as Landis & Green, who likely hired him out to Call for a fee. Green was one of a few enslaved people who stayed on to work with Call after the Emancipation Proclamation.[5] When introducing Green to an 8-year old Jack Daniel, Call is quoted as saying, "Uncle Nearest is the best whiskey maker that I know of." Call reportedly said to Green, "I want [Jack] to become the world's best whiskey distiller – if he wants to be. You help me teach him."[6]

Green served as master distiller. According to one biographer, "Only a few years older than Jack, [Green] taught him all about the still."[7]

Known as Nearest Green,[6] or "Uncle Nearest",[1][4] he played the fiddle and was a lively entertainer. Green's descendants say this trait was passed down to his son, Jesse Green.

Slavery ended with ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1865. Daniel opened his distillery a year later and immediately employed two of Green's sons, George and Eli Green. In all, at least three of Green's sons were a part of the Jack Daniel Distillery staff: George Green, Edde Green, and Eli Green. At least four of Nearest's grandchildren joined the Jack Daniel team, Ott, Charlie, Otis, and Jesse Green. In all, seven straight generations of Nearest Green's descendants have worked for Jack Daniel Distillery, with three direct descendants continuing to work there as of November 2017.[8]

Nathan "Nearest" Green was married to Harriet Green, and they had 11 children together – nine sons and two daughters. Four of their sons, Louis, George, Jesse, and Eli, are listed in the 1870 census.[9] Seven of the sons and both daughters are listed in the 1880 federal census.[10]:

The cheaper it is the better the flip.. you make more money pushing a low label than an already big label

you’ll make more money pushing salignac than henny as far as progress since henny already well established
