Marvel dont have to worry anyway since the X Men and Fantastic Four coming back..

God damn. When it comes to social media, people are just so stupid. I haven't been on FB in like 4 years. Never had IG or Twitter. Why it's it so hard for grown ass people to stay off that shit?

Agreed. So-called grown-ups making fools of themselves over some bullshit thoughts they are twatting. People fucking up their careers, reputations & personal finances in Hollyweird. Strange world for real.

Marvel/Disney should worry that Gunn will go to DC and turn them around. Well, maybe nobody can do that but still...

Anyway, GOTG found Thor in space, imagine if they find the FF out there too? Epic. The addition of Mantis adds a character who's kind of an oblivious airhead so Drax absence may be less impactful (if Bautista continues to think one monkey will stop the show). Starlord - STARS in other movies. Gamora - STARS in other movies. Rocket - STARS in other movies. Groot - STARS in other movies (albeit not good ones). Nebula - well, she was a Companion so she's official. Bautista is a peripheral actor who's really a one-trick pony, plays the same character. It's a testament to Gunn, Feige and Marvel that they got as much out of him as they did. Somehow I don't see another director being a problem.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Reportedly Presses Pause on Production

Back in July, director James Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after offensive tweets he had made in the past resurfaced. Now, Disney and Marvel have reportedly put the film’s production on hold indefinitely. According to The Hollywood Reporter, crew members hired in Atlanta to begin Vol. 3’s pre-production this fall have been released from the project and are free to take other work, i.e. pre-production ain’t starting any time soon. A source told THR that the pause was necessary to “re-group.” Said the source, “The timeline has been pushed out.”

While Gunn later apologized for the jokes, some of which made light of pedophilia and rape, Disney declined to rehire him, a move that disappointed the Guardians of the Galaxy cast and down-right angered franchise star Dave Bautista, who has been a fervent vocal supporter of Gunn. While there could be any number of delays affecting the film, the fact Disney and Marvel have yet to announce a replacement for Gunn, or even a potential replacement, is the culprit here. While we’re no experts, shooting a film without a director at all does seem like a pretty risky move, both financially and creatively speaking.

Guardians of the Galaxy actress Glenn Close has addressed the subject of James Gunn and his removal by Disney from the third entry in the hugely successful Marvel franchise. Interviewed in the upcoming issue of the U.K. film magazine Empire, Close explained that she found it difficult to imagine the series without the filmmaker.

“It’s hard to think of it without him,” says Close, who played the character of Nova Prime in 2014’s original Guardians of the Galaxy. “It’s sad. And it brings up, I think, some very tricky issues around this movement. I bring it up with every woman I talk to because I want to know what people feel, you know? Is that truly what we should be doing? Especially in this case, somebody who’s known to ruin people for something that they wrote in a totally different context, what, ten, 12 years ago? What are we going to do, go back to our pasts and make sure that everything we said was politically correct? Who can live like that? I just feel that there’s something wrong about that.”

Gunn already wrote a draft of the script for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 when Disney announced the company “severed our business relationship” over decade-old tweets from Gunn joking about rape, pedophilia, and other inappropriate material. These “totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative,” as Gunn called them, were unearthed by alt-right conservatives in response to the filmmaker’s outspoken political beliefs online.

Gunn said, in part, through an apology, “I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.”

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Dave Bautista, and Sean Gunn all signed an open letter on the matter in support of Gunn’s reinstatement. However, reports surfaced that Disney would not reconsider its decision and would instead look to hire another director to take over.

In a British TV interview broadcast last weekend, Bautista said he was unsure if he would appear in the third Guardians film.

“It’s a bitter-sweet conversation — um, no it’s a bitter-bitter conversation because I’m not really happy with what they’ve done with James Gunn.”

He added, “They’re putting the movie off. It’s on hold indefinitely. To be honest with you I don’t know if I want to work for Disney.”

Guardians of the Galaxy 2's Michelle Yeoh "Horrified" by James Gunn's Firing
ADVERTISING

Michelle Yeoh condemns Disney's decision to fire James Gunn after his almost decade-old offensive tweets were unearthed. The move put Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's production on indefinite hold, and might even affect the narrative of Avengers 4 with regard to the cosmic heroes. Yeoh briefly appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Aleta Ogord (a Guardian of the Galaxy in the comic books), and although it isn't confirmed, rumor has it that she, alongside other high profile Ravagers, are being set up to take part in the threequel.

Yeoh is still basking in the success of director Jon M. Chu's Crazy Rich Asians. which claimed the box office top spot for the third consecutive week. The first Hollywood blockbuster with a fully Asian cast since 2005's Memoirs of a Geisha, the romantic comedy has also been a hit with critics. The Malaysian Chinese actress plays Eleanor Young in the story, and with a sequel already set to go at Warner Bros., fans can likely expect Yeoh to reprise her role in China Rich Girlfriend.

However, on a more serious note, Yeoh recently talked about Gunn's sudden firing, calling Disney's move "so unnecessary" during an interview with Yahoo! Movies UK. The actress also asked others to show the troubled filmmaker support.

“You’re talking about things that he said in the archives. If he had said it yesterday, or today, or something like this then you can make a big fuss but why dig up something now? I don’t understand at all. It’s so unnecessary, what good does it do? Let’s support James Gunn. he’s such an amazing, incredible filmmaker and human being. We will fight on. You can’t keep a good guy down, that’s what I believe.”

Yeoh is the latest actor Gunn worked with on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to voice support for the director following his firing. Kurt Russell and David Hasselhoff separately made it known that they're backing the embattled filmmaker. The main cast of Guardians of the Galaxy also released an official statement standing by their director, and asking Disney to reinstate him as the helmer of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Aside from them, there's been an outpouring of support for Gunn from his other peers in the industry, as well as from the countless fans who signed an online petition encouraging his rehiring.

Sadly, Gunn returning to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 seems to be all-but impossible now. For a time, many were hoping that Disney would reverse their decision, especially with reports that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was championing Gunn's cause. However, the latest on the matter says that the House of Mouse is standing by their choice. Regardless of whether Gunn returns to helm an MCU film in the future, it doesn't look like he's going to have a hard time landing a new gig, with several other studios reportedly interested in hiring him.

Fired 'Guardians' director James Gunn will write, possibly direct next 'Suicide Squad'
Brian Truitt, USA TODAYPublished 5:32 p.m. ET Oct. 9, 2018 | Updated 6:01 p.m. ET Oct. 9, 2018

Marvel's loss is DC's gain.

Warner Bros. confirmed Tuesday to USA TODAY that James Gunn, who wrote and directed two popular "Guardians of the Galaxy" films, is writing the next installment of the "Suicide Squad" franchise. The movie will be a follow-up to the 2016 hit supervillain film with Margot Robbie and Will Smith.

Gunn, who had been prepping a third "Guardians," was fired by Disney in July – one day after groups including conservative website The Daily Caller dug up old tweets from the filmmaker's feed, in which he joked about topics such as rape and pedophilia. Gunn is a known critic of President Donald Trump.

His cast wrote an open letter on social media calling for Gunn's reinstatement but with Disney sticking to its guns, Gunn has apparently moved on to Marvel's chief superhero rival, alongside fellow filmmakers such as Patty Jenkins ("Wonder Woman" and its sequel), James Wan ("Aquaman") and Ava DuVernay (the in-development "New Gods").

According to reports from Deadline and The Wrap, Gunn also is poised to possibly direct the new "Suicide Squad," taking over from David Ayer.

The first movie was a critically maligned commercial success that featured supervillains like Deadshot (Smith) and Harley Quinn (Robbie) doing black-ops missions for the government. "Suicide Squad" went on to earn $325 million at the box office and win an Oscar for hair and makeup.

Early social reaction to Gunn's hiring has been mostly positive. Gunn's "Guardians" actor Dave Bautista, who has been outspoken in his support of the director, tweeted the news and asked, "Where do I sign up!"

Suicide Squad 2: Smallville Star Also Wants to Join James Gunn's Sequel

Now that Warner Bros.' Suicide Squad 2 has a surprising new writer in James Gunn, another one of his MCU stars, Michael Rosenbaum, wants to join him. Dave Bautista expressed interest in joining Suicide Squad 2 after Gunn came aboard to write and possibly direct, which isn't too surprising since Bautista vehemently defended Gunn on social media after he was unceremoniously fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Whether or not more Marvel stars will throw their hat in the ring to join him remains to be seen, but considering how beloved the filmmaker is, it wouldn't be so surprising.

After writing and directing both Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 for Marvel, Gunn was slated to return for Guardians 3, but he was fired in July, after offensive tweets from a decade ago resurfaced online. Despite a number of people quickly jumping to his defense, Disney stood by their removal of Gunn, with the director's longtime collaborator, Michael Rooker, even quitting Twitter after the firing. Disney hasn't announced a replacement to take over Guardians 3 yet, but it seems several of the director's stars are ready to jump ship and be a part of Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

Rosenbaum took to Twitter last night to express his interest in signing on for Suicide Squad 2, stating, "Sign me up too." The actor, who played Martinex in last year's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, was responding to a tweet by Bautista, who was the first to say he wanted to join Gunn's movie. Bautista was also among the first to come to Gunn's defense after his firing in July, and he even threatened to quit Guardians 3 in August, if Marvel didn't at least use Gunn's already-completed script for the film.

Sean Gunn, James' brother, who plays Kraglin in the Guardians movies, confirmed in September that Marvel will use James Gunn's Guardians 3 script, but his directorial replacement remains to be seen. There was hope, at one point, that the director and studio may be able to resolve their differences and bring Gunn back into the fold, but Disney CEO Bob Iger stood behind the firing in a statement he released in late September. There had even been talk before Gunn came aboard for Suicide Squad 2 that Warner Bros. was interested in Gunn, continuing what is becoming a bit of a tradition, with Warner Bros. snatching up talent from Marvel.

The DCEU's biggest hit, Wonder Woman, was directed by Patty Jenkins, who was once set to direct Thor: The Dark World. Warner Bros. brought Joss Whedon over from the MCU to rewrite parts of the script and direct reshoots for Justice League, stepping in for Zack Snyder. And now, WB has poached Gunn. While the first Suicide Squad wasn't well-received by many critics, this new project is said to be a much different take than David Ayer's original. Whether or not Gunn can turn this franchise around remains to be seen, but it will be interesting to see if Gunn will try to bring over MCU actors like Bautista and Rosenbaum once the project moves further in development.

Well damn...

You were right

Good for Gunn. I think this shit was ridiculous anyway. Making some dumb ass white boy jokes (I say white boy, because that's usually the content of their humor) is stupid to hold against a dude. While I don't find the shit humorous, the whole thing could just be dispelled with a statement and move on. Oh well....Suicide Squad about to be off the chain.

You know I kinda agree...

My thing with Gunn is that he made the SAME jokes OVER AND OVER even when apparently he was told by those in his circle it wasn't funny.

But why he get white boy pass?

We never get any kind of pass.

I just hope if a black celebrity makes a joke JUST LIKE THIS, he gets a "pass" too.

And I have another prediction: whatever Gunn does for SS2 it'll look like a Marvel rip-off trying not to be a Marvel rip-off.

Up till now Marvel and DC have played nice but if you get the mouse riled up you will regret it.

Interesting too how much loyalty he is getting from his actors...

Do Black celebrities back each other like that?

Well, he's getting spoken loyalty but ain't nobody refusing those checks. Nor refusing to film. Except Bautista and I strongly suspect he'd like to walk back his statements. And, he's under contract. If he fucks with the mouse they may let him go just to save on the mess or they can really fuck him royally.
Marvel/Disney is a fucking juggernaut at this point, no minor character/actor will derail that train. I don't even think a major one would.

I'm just shocked cause what if we found out MORE about Gunn and it ain't good?

Cause people ain't gonna FORGET who defended him and they shouldn't.

No pass but I just expect that kind of humor from white people. White males make jokes about fucking children and fiddling with men's bums all the time. That's their culture.

Your first point is very well made. What if more does come out? What if the mouse already knows there's more?

Most of the people who are defending him are doing so based on his work and just a little of his personal life. Most of them are adding caveats such as, "as far as I know" and "I've never seen/heard..." So they're protecting themselves and can easily back peddle. Except for Bautista, they haven't gone out on a limb. Bautista is out on the skinny branches, man and I bet Marvel is already writing scripts without him.

You ain't make one lie.

But damn

Even the dumbest most crass white boy would stop after say a DOZEN!

Or listen to family and friends who say STOP.

And maybe you know DELETE THEM.

I hear you

But that ain't gonna work no more...

Notice ..

Originally ALL those comedians claimed Cosby drugging was common knowledge for decades

Weinstein too...

They ain't saying that now, right?

how convenient.

Even the hardwick stuff, once he got his job back?

CRICKETS.

And I like that...keep that SAME ENERGY.

You wanna ride for ya boy?

Then you gotta take the whole ride.

That's what I'm saying. If you read the quotes they always say "he's always been a professional on set," "a brilliant director," yadda yadda. They all leave themselves an out. They say they find it hard to believe, but they never give a hard 'no way.' If it turns out they find kiddy porn on his computer, they all will say the same exact thing they've been saying: "TO MY KNOWLEDGE he never, etc etc."

Unless I'm missing your point.

that is EXACTLY it...

I think at THIS point...they going so hard in the paint.

those little verbal gymnastics?

aint REALLY (and SHOULD'T help

if it IS revealed (hopefully NOT ) that he is worse than they all thought.

because All the women AND MEN who said they HEARD things about Weinstein...but he was COOL with me?

Got ROASTED in the end.

Remember they edited Damon out Oceans 8 cause he caped for Affleck and Weinstein.

I'm saying if these stars who "supporting" him get proven WRONG?

I don;t thin the well he was cool on set talk is enough of a OUT.

Yeah but remember nobody is saying they heard things about Gunn. They're all saying they haven't heard anything and he's always been professional and he's a very talented director. They're not exactly caping for him. Except Drax of course and he might have torpedoed his career. Well, maybe Gunn will give him some burn at DC. I don't know what his contract is but if he only has GOTG 3 on it I'm pretty sure he's done at Marvel. He could be done now if he doesn't come back from "the snap."

Now if it turns out something else is discovered, those actors would be fools to say, yeah I had heard some whispers.

If something else is discovered they will all say: "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? I had no idea."

damn it I hear you. I got no good retort

But I don't think it should be THAT simple.

Cause it works both ways...

So they HAVE these tweets and so well pedophile jokes are OK if you don't have child porn on your laptop?

So to me its like the rumors (which are basically HEARSAY) can ALWAYS be explained away

but in a way?

the tweets in fact are WORSE..cause they are PROOF

to me its like this

EVERYONE says Woody Allen essentially GROOMED his adopted daughter to be his wife...

Bryan Singer and the DIRECTOR of Jeepers Creepers have had SERIOUS charges about male rape of a minor MORE THAN ONCE

they still working and industry supporters...

AND Casey Affleck assaulted 2 women...and AFTER the Oscar basically admitted it

so we gonna let ALL THEIR defenders get a pass too?

this is the same community that just a few years ago would have DESTROYED a Black celebrity for just saying the Minister Farrakhan was KINDA right ON some things!

(ie Arsenio)

The Black community can't DEFEND our own like that without being pulled in.

But its like white folk can.

maybe I'm wrong.
