James Baldwin Debates William F. Buckley (1965) and more

that debate is CLASSIC….Buckley was outclassed and outmatched…which is why he lost nearly 4 to 1….

Cambridge Union has had a lot of legendary debates and presentations..it's worth checking out their Youtube channel

Dope. Worthy of watching the whole thing, but I really like the example (33:45) he used about RFK and his statement about "foreseeing of a black president in 40 years". The deep embedded racial supremacy of such a statement is hard to ignore.

actually RFK said that a negro could be President of The United States in the foreseeable future it seems that Baldwin put a number on it..unless kennedy made that statement before with a specific number of years mentioned it seems James Baldwin had a negrodamus moment:lol:

at 44:14 when Buckley said "My great-grand parents worked hard too. I don't know anything that's ever been created without the expense of something." I wanted to build a time machine just to slap that sumbitch. Actually there were many other times but that was the main one. But James Baldwin is one of the most eloquent speakers I've ever heard.

his must have been the first STATISTICS argument cacs been using ever since..

while Baldwin clearly won that debate the fact that they even HAD one pisses me off becuz this at a time when the shit was most blatant it could ever be outside of slavery itself...what the fuck point was it for a bunch of eggheads to "debate" whether the "negro problem" is a part of the american dream or not...:smh::smh:

Good looking on diggin up the quote, but in case there is any confusion, I remarked on it not because it actually came true, but for Baldwin's subsequent statement on how Negroes in Harlem barbershop found it quite humorous that this cac (RFK) generously allowed if negros continued making progress that they might have a negro president in the foreseeable future.

The irony of this statement coming from a man who might have been become president (if not for a bullet) for no other reason than his last name is pretty incredulous.

It's interesting how the conservative "movement" has evolved from the pseudo-British aristocratic posturing of Buckley to the pseudo-redneck hillbilly posturing of the Tea Party.
