Re: IT'S ALMOST OFFICIAL: Floyd "Money" Mayweather Plans to return to fight Pacquiao

You know people (especially the ones who dont watch boxing) have no memory. Their only way to reference Pacquiao now is by the Oscar fight, so hes superman now. Ask most people who he fought in the two previous fights to De La Hoya, and they probably couldnt tell you. They dont realize cats have brought it to Pac before, some even think Marquez actually beat him in those fights, especially their last bout which was close as hell.

Pac is a beast no doubt, but against a young, conditioned, and rested Floyd:smh:

These guys dont boxing. Marquez could have been easily given the decisions in both those fights... and I was cheering for Manny then.

Re: IT'S ALMOST OFFICIAL: Floyd "Money" Mayweather Plans to return to fight Pacquiao

Mayweather has never been a runner. He's more of a lay on the ropes and counter type cat. Best believe Mayweather will bring it directly to Pac. He's bigger, harder punching, and has faster hands. He's also still young, basically only a year older than Pac, so he's no De La Hoya.

Another difference between this and the Oscar fight is that Mayweather is going to reverse the roles by making Pacquiao come forward, unlike Oscar, who walked to Pac and stalked him the whole night making him easy pickings.

Beat me to it. I hate when niggas who have never really watched a Mayweather fight call him a "runner". How is it running standing right in front of an opponent? MM's (Money Mayweather) defense would be enough to blunt a lot of Pacquiao's attack while his superior skill and accuracy would make Manny slow to open up his offense. It would be a great fight and probably close since judges like active fighters but Mayweather would close it out in the final rounds.

Nicca Pac is 29 and Floyd is 31, and wil be 32 by the time they fight since his birthday is in Feb., how the fuck does that equal 1 year? Sure hope Floyd stayed in shape, if he comes back even half a step slower, we could be in for a surprise, I WILL NEVER COUNT OUT PAC AGAIN, that lil' nicca got something that Floyd never had to display in any of his fights - HEART.

mayweather might lose - and i'm a mayweather fan.

the biggest secret killer of great boxers is ring rust. these niggas get on top and simply stop fighting - they think they're great but they never get tested so skills and heart erode. mayweather has official ring rust.

this shit about mayweather being bigger - wasn't pacman @ 149 fight night? mayweather is not bigger than pacman - and at this point - if them niggas had to fight today? pac has quicker hands and better stamina. speed kills and pbf used to always been the fastest nigga. he's not anymore.

i also have a personal test about boxers to tell when they're over. once they start doing the "delay" talk - they've been hit in the head too many times and their reaction time is shot. it's that thing that boxers get at a certain point in their careers when they look at you and you can tell that they not 100% focused on you - they eyes look spacey and they stutter - and/or they take a long time to choose their words when they speak.

jermain taylor was doing it before pavlik clubbed him. de la hoya does it. that delay in reaction time - that split of a second is the difference between catching 200 jabs to the mouth vs bobbing that head and countering.

look at any recent pdf video on youtube - like that one video with him and Philly Freck where he got the bag of money in the studio. peep how the nigga talking - pbf is shot my nigga.

Re: IT'S ALMOST OFFICIAL: Floyd "Money" Mayweather Plans to return to fight Pacquiao

But what your not mentioning is that their was an offer to Margarito that he turned down, and then when Floyd started going after the big fights (Hatton, Oscar) Margarito and his people started coming around with those wolf tickets.

Margarito is a suspect as fighter who beat one person, now everybodys on his dick. But answer me this: Why is Margarito, who claims to be the most feared man in boxing that everyone ducks, now refusing to fight Paul Williams, who beat him before, and fighting Shane Mosely for less money than Williams was offering?

c/s again

I was going by birth years, Floyd was born in 1977, Pac born in 1978. But, who gives a fuck. My point was, their relatively the same age, both still young, so Floyd isn't going to be an older, slower fighter. Manny will have to deal with a fellow young fighter with superior hand speed and defense.

Well spoken, alot of non-boxing fans think that May is invincible and that is far from the truth, just watch the Jose Luis Castillo/Mayweather fight where May plainly lost. The nicca got hit with over 200 power punches and he only landed about 70 and got a gift decision that the crowd booed the shit out of, no truly great fighter retires undefeated. Floyd the last couple years of his career, took VERY easy fights for the money. To be the best and STAY the best, you have to fight and beat the best. And May left Margarito, Cotto, Clottey and Mosley untouched. Instead fought a midget with no boxing skills(Hatton) and a shot old man(Oscar). His skills have definitely eroded. When you are a gym rat your whole life and then stop for retirement or whatever, then your skills erode. It's one of the major reasons Bernard Hopkins is still on top, he never reitred and he never goes a day without hitting the gym hard.

32 is not young my G, at least not for boxing. Especially when your coming out of an inactive retirement after being a gym rat all your life, but I agree that they will be much closer in freshness than Oscar/Pac. Niccas can get old overnight, how many of ya'll remember Sugar Ray coming out of retirement to fight a smaller, faster Hector Camacho and being the favorite, it's sad that I will always remember Suagr Ray getting his ass whupped for like 9 rounds, when no one dreamed that would ever happen. I would like to root for Floyd but Manny is better for boxing than Floyd. He never passes up a challenge and always fights the best fighters and gives the fans something they won't forget. Mayweather never went to war like that and always took easy money fights. I was a May fan but after the Corrales fight he seemed to just do enuff to win and then him not being able to admit that he lost to Castillo, he lost me as a fan.

I see the fight this way, if Pac gave Marquez(who is probably one of the best if not THE best pure boxers in the sport, remember he doesn't have May's natural speed and he still makes niccas look foolish, that's pure skill) a really hard time, even tho I thought Marquez beat him twice, May has got his work cut out for him. And Manny has been working on his boxing skills, if Floyd is just diminished enuff, it should make for a great action fight.

Re: IT'S ALMOST OFFICIAL: Floyd "Money" Mayweather Plans to return to fight Pacquiao

This fight is far from official. Pac is most likely going to fight Hatton next summer. If this fight happens, it will probably be late '09 or 2010.

Arum & Roach are smart. They know it's in their best interest to wait as long as possible to make this fight. By the time they meet, Floyd will then have atleast 2 years of inactivity.

I agree with a lot of this, the Castillo fight was close, and yes Mayweathers ring rust could definitely be a factor in any fight he takes at this point. But as far as him not fighting, for one, Mosley, Mayweather was calling out Mosley for years and Shane wouldn't fuck with him because he wasn't at the top, as far as financially, and didn't start calling him out until he beat Oscar.
Margarito, as I've already said, and its well known, wouldn't fuck with Floyd and turned down money to fight him until, again, he beat Oscar. Cotto's people turned down a fight with Floyd a couple of years ago because they knew at that point he wasnt ready. If you remember, there was a point where damn near everybody Cotto fought seemed like they had a chance to knock him out(like Chop-Chop Corley, Ricardo Torres, and a few others).
I never agreed with Floyd fighting Hatton, and yeah he could have fought the fighters you named, but why wasn't anyone saying that to Shane when he was on top and wouldn't fight Floyd because their wasn't enough money? Why wasn't anyone saying that to Margarito when he turned down a fight with Floyd before Floyd really blew up?

Assuming he doesn't take a tune-up fight, shit he might even fight Oscar for a fat check again while Manny takes on Hatton, ya'll seriously don't believe Oscar is gonna retire?

My point wasnt that Mayweather is young, my point was that neither, in boxing terms, is "young". If Floyd is considered old at this point, then Manny would have to be also, or at least pretty close.

Also, remember that Manny has taken a lot of punishment throughout his career, that shit can sneak up out the blue and dead a career overnight just like age can.

This fight isn't going to be easy for either, nor guaranteed for either, but I still give the edge to Mayweather.

Money trumps all that shit. Whoever they believe is the biggest check is who Manny is fighting. The only reason its still an issue at this point is the fact that Hatton has such a huge UK fan base that brings extra money to the table and that has to be factored in.

But the current pound for pound king vs. the former p4p king, who never actually lost that title, and Mayweather being as big a name as he is, would be a huge fight, I dont know if Arum or HBO could turn that down.

The difference is that Shane was busy fighting Oscar, Vargas and Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright, who were natural to the weight and were the marquee names at the time and great fighters to boot. Floyd didn't turn down fights with all the guys you mentioned to fight OTHER great fighters, he turned them down so he could take easy money fights, and I don't blame him, you work and sweat and bleed to make the big bucks, it's just that I'm a boxing purist and for me to consider you a great champ, you have to fight all the most dangerous fighters in your division for me to say your great. Floyd would have had to jump up in weight two divisions at that time to take on Shane, it would have been a novelty fight like Pac/Oscar. Anyway when Shane was in his prime around 2000, Floyd was too young and inexperienced to be thrown in against Mosley who was beast at the time and the LB for LB champ. I'm old school mayne, when I see a cat with zero losses, you're automatically suspect to me, it means you never fought everybody you were supposed to or there wasn't any other great fighters fr you to fight, because no great champ retires undefeated.

Re: IT'S ALMOST OFFICIAL: Floyd "Money" Mayweather Plans to return to fight Pacquiao

The PBF-Castillo fight is irrelevant to how a Pac fight would go.

1. Floyd was injured going into the fight
2. Floyd is much better now then he was then

Floyd became more of a safety first fighter when he started fighting bigger guys. Sometimes I think yall just started watching him a few years ago. Against guys of similar size he is more aggressive.

Floyd at this point only takes fights he knows he can win. You can't bet against that

You do know that Hatton, with his strong UK fanbase, is possibly the bigger draw right? You know they have already entered discussions right?

Also, if your a promoter, you want your guy to win. You look for any advantage you can get. You make that nigga wait

No he became a safety first fighter after he got with Roger and his hands started getting brittle. When he was with Floyd Sr. he was a high action fighter, after Castillo put it on him from rounds 9-12(which had nothing to do with a hand injury). The real issue in that fight was the ref stopping May from using his forearm to push Castillo back by shoving his forearm and elbow in his throat, pushing his head up and back and then punching which is purely illegal, I've watched that fight over ten times and once the ref took away that weapon from him, it all went downhill, he had no way to defend himself from Castillo's relentlessness. And if you watch alot of Floyd Sr.'s fighters they use the forearm illegally as well. Watch the fight again and see for yourself, how the fight changes once Drakulich stopped May from using that shit. If Manny fights Pac and Freddie gets in the refs ear about May's illegal use of the forearms you will see a different fight.

That was my point, that Hatton could command more money with his UK fanbase, and that would be the only thing to trump a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, that and the fact that the Hatton fight would be easier for Manny.

But at the same time, remember Manny is a fighter, a fighter with a lot of heart. Thinking easy, and possibly, more money, you would go with Hatton no doubt.

But from a fighters perspective, which Manny is, a warrior, wouldn't you rather have Floyd, who still is at the top considering it hasn't been taken? Imagine if Pac beats Floyd, especially if he could do it convincingly, imagine what that could do for his place in boxing, not just now but in boxing history, Pac or Roach might not be able to turn that down.

Personally I am more of a businessman so I would go for the money. We're talking about a sport where you get hit in the head for 12 rounds. You can become punch drunk & brain damaged. When you start making serious money in boxing, that businessman mentality takes over. Look at Margarito. He's a warrior, but he wants nothing to do w/ Paul Williams.

Manny doesn't decide who he fights, the promoter does.

:smh: @ this post. When he was w/ Floyd Sr., he was much more of a defensive fighter. The reason why he preferred Roger as a trainer was because Roger was more offensive minded. I think this was discussed on the prefight for the Corrales fight. I
can't remember right now

Against Catillo, it was a shoulder injury. He was a 100% for the 2nd fight & we all saw how that went.

I don't think the fight was close, you know what? Ninjas are so biased, niccas are always telling me what highway robbery it was when Oscar got the nod over Pernell when P outlanded Oscar by over 200 punches, why won't they turn around and say the same thing when Floyd got outlanded by over two hundred punches, bias, plain and simple, because Jose is Mexican and niccas cant admit a Mexican beat their man plain and simple, instead the fight was "close". Talk to anyone who knows boxing and is not a "fan" of any particular fighter but of boxing in general and they will tell you he lost. NOW, he came back like Sugar Ray against Duran in the rematch and I give him all the respect he deserves for it, because he boxed and played it safe, THAT's what Floyd is good at, he's not a head up fighter, and if you have the skills why should you be?

My point with Castillo was about the elbow and forearm, Freddy needs to remove that illegal weapon from Floyds arsenal for Pac to have a chance in this fight, that was my point, I just took a while to get to it:D.
