Amazon, Barnes & Noble Urged In Open Letter Signed By Celebrities To Pull Controversial Film And Book Promoted By Kyrie Irving

AAYj2RY.img

Mila Kunis, Debra Messing and other entertainment industry figures are among those who have sent an open letter to Amazon and Barnes & Noble, asking that the controversial book and documentary Hebrews to Negroes: Wake up Black America be removed from their platforms.

The nonprofit organization Creative Community for Peace was behind the letter, claiming both Amazon and B&N allegedly “refused to remove the title and continue to profit from its bigotry.”
https://optout.aboutads.info/
Kunis, Messing, Jeopardy! host Mayim Bialik and songwriter Diane Warren were among 200 signatories to the letter. It was addressed to “Jeff Bezos, James Daunt, and the leaders at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.”

The protest comes in the wake of NBA star Kyrie Irving promoting the film with a tweet, then refusing to give an adequate apology. He was then suspended by the Brooklyn Nets and was ordered by the Brooklyn Nets to meet with various groups to make things right.

The CCFP said the book and movie cause “tremendous harm to the Jewish community while spreading dangerous misinformation to an impressionable public that may be susceptible to its propaganda.”

“These works promote numerous anti-semitic tropes and conspiracy theories that have no basis in fact, including manufactured Hitler quotes, false claims of Jewish power and control, that the Jewish people fabricated the Holocaust, and that the Jewish people are fake Jews,” the letter continues. “The claims made in these works have led to the persecution and murder of millions of Jews throughout the centuries.”

Irving’s promotion has increased sales of the book. The CCFP said Amazon and B&N are “profiting from hate.”

“At a time in America where there are more per capita hate crimes against Jews than any other minority, overwhelmingly more religious-based hate crimes against the Jewish people than any other religion, and more hate crimes against the Jewish people in New York than any other minority, where a majority of American Jews live, it is unacceptable to allow this type of hate to foment on your platforms,” CCFP wrote.

The open letter ends with a plea: “We, the undersigned, demand that you immediately remove these works from your sites.”

I dont agree with the concept of this movie or Irving's comments. But I will not have my choices dictated to me by Mila Kunitz. I will purchase it out of spite.

Agreed.
Apparently they've never heard the axiom "sunshine is the best disinfectant" I WANT TO KNOW who is hating on me, better to be prepared or to fight back. It's not wise to let haters fester in the shadows. Let them speak. It's fine that they should speak out and denounce what they find hateful and offensive, but take away the right to free speech? WRONG.

Only thing I hate about the Hebrew Israelite movement is they add stuff in there that allows the people to discredit the whole movement.
they throw out the whole movie based on misinformation on hitler but what about the rest of the movie

I hope they go after Amazon and B&N's pockets like they've done Ye and Kyrie. Remember the buck stops at the very Top. The owners of these companies must have to be held accountable for spreading hate.

So you are supporting them banning this documentary?

So you are supporting them banning this documentary?

freedom of speech and expression is one thing

consequences to that speech and expression is another.

the backlash was able to get kyrie to bend by pressuring businesses around him to withdraw from him because of what he expressed....the tweet supporting a documentary claimed to be misinformation, "dangerous" and "harmful".

Barnes & Noble is the number 1 book selling company who operates 614 bookstores in all 50 states in the America. They do not operate any stores outside of the United States.

Amazon is global corporation that sells, ships and streams world wide.

Both these entities give a platform supporting a documentary thats claimed to be misinformation, "dangerous" and "harmful". Privately owned corporations are NOT obligated to have anything on their shelves they dont want to have. Also they can be swayed to remove things off their shelves based on market and public reaction ie the backlash makes it not worth it for them to continue selling it.

The question here is what pressure can be applied to B&N (a national corp) and Amazon ( a global corp) that will make them choose to discontinue selling the book and doc?

My answer to your question is.... the same pressure and backlash that forced kyrie to take down his tweet and apologize SHOULD be applied to B&N and Amazon to get them to take down the book and doc off their platforms. That means that the Nets and NBA should withdraw any business interests they have with B&N and Amazon. The Jewish community and jewish run businesses should withdraw their interests with B&N and Amazon and anyone else offended and supportive of the community should do the same until both those companies have a change of heart and remove the offending items and apologize....just like Kyrie was forced to.

If not then what was the issue with Kyrie???

Carry on….

freedom of speech and expression is one thing

consequences to that speech and expression is another.

This is limiting the expression of that speech. I don't see how it's beneficial to the culture to censor this documentary even if it is offensive.
