Is there a way that I can resize files in a bundle, rather than one by one? [Porn Ins

My co-worker has several thousand family pictures on his laptop, 25GB worth or pictures. You know how digital cameras, the good ones produce images that are 3500 x 2500 pixels. All of his pics are about 2 megabytes. If he could shrink them all to about 800 x 700 pixels. Nobody has time to shrink thousands of pictures one by one. Can ya help?

I haven't done it in awhile, but you can do it in Photoshop. Google info on how to adjust your settings. You can open up a bundle of pics and have them sized and saved to a specific folder.

Short Answer: Irfanview + batch file

You can rename them, number them sequentially, change the format, crop them, resample/ resize them, adjust the color gamma hue etc... all in one fell swoop.

Yeah you can do it in photoshop. I would create an action that resize the picture and place into a separate folder. Here is what I would do.


1. Copy the original 25gb folder so that you have a duplicate. ALWAYS WORK OFF THE DUPLICATE FOLDER. This way if you mess up your ok because the original folder is still in tack.

2. create an action in photoshop that will open a particular folder (in this case the duplicate folder), grab a pic, resize it, and place into another folder. Call this folder resize or something)

3. run the action

4. Check the resize folder, make sure everything resized correctly. if so. DELETE THE DUPLICATED FOLDER and original folder if you want.

It really isn't that hard and it may sound lot of lot of work but it's really simple once you set the action correctly. In the end you'll be please with the result and can use the action for other stuff in the future.

Once these pictures are reduced in size can you get back the color density? How about saving yourself some time and aggravation and buy a thumb drive large enough to store his pictures. They're now on a solid state drive and he can access them whenever he needs them. Case solved!

I used to use Windows Image Resizer, but I'm sure there are better programs.
