Is Phil Jackson the greatest coach in NBA History?

Re: Is Phil Jackson

yeah, he ran out on them like he did with a dozen other teams. At least he actually won something this time before leaving instead of just bolting away after a playoff appearance. Sorry, but greatest coaches do NOT flee the scene like he always did. Like he became KNOWN for (after leaving the Nets). Rather, they stick out a shitty situation (like Jackson did after Shaq left the Lakers) and make it a champion

btw, Detroit wasn't exactly in the worst condition when Brown got there

RS, what are you talking about? Brown didn't abandon the Pistons, Dumars fired him, even after he had said he wanted to stay. Just as he didn't quit on NY, they quit on him.
Jackson left when Shaq left. When he came back, the team that didnt' make the playoffs had a bunch of injuries in the second half of the previous year. So Jackson didn't come in and take over a shitty team at all.

don't remember all the details of that situation, but Brown gave some kind of ultimatum that forced Dumars to take the action he did or else he might lose control of the team. Brown's done that at a couple of stops (always the martyr). Also, Phil Jackson retired BEFORE Shaq left. Once it was established that Jackson was stepping down from coaching, that was when O'Neal said he did not want to play for anyone else besides Jackson and demanded a trade. I may not remember all the details of Brown's "dismissal" but I remember this shit like it was yesterday. Even made a couple of comments on this board wondering if Shaq would feel betrayed by Jackson since he was coming back to coaching the team that O'Neal left

That's not what happened with Brown at all.
Dumars seemed to really think Brown wanted to be the Cav's President and when he couldn't get certain assurances from Brown's agent, he fired Brown. Brown wanted to come back the following season and said so but Dumars fired him. He did not quit and was not a threat to Dumars' control of the team.

I wasn't specifying who left first, just that Jackson didn't hang around after Shaq left.
