Is New York still relevant to rap?

As I was driving around today, I noticed all the rap music that came on the radio, commercial rap (or crap music I call it) was southern based. It occurred to me that you hardly hear any New York rappers anymore. Now, I'm in Atlanta (so maybe that explains it), but perhaps you all can enlighten me. Is New York still relevant to rap music or is it dominated by Southern based rappers? What do they play in NY, Jersey, Philly, etc?

It's like you said you're in the ATL. Rap is very regional and has been for the past few years. I'm in the A right now too whenever I go back to NY there are some different things on the radio....some.

The question will soon be "Is rap still relevant?"

i live in Harlem NY, and you hear the same garbage southern rap here too. i hardly ever listen to the radio anymore because southern rap has taken over. hip hop really is dead, at least real hiphop is.

Now see, I agree with you. I'm from the South, but I was in the military and had lots of friends from the east coast (until My Cousin Vinny came out). They hipped me to shit I had never heard of before and hadn't heard again (cept that new joint from KRS and Marly)
I was wondering where it all went.

True headz know where to find what they like. Surely won't get it from commercial radio. It's like the mall telling you what's in style. LOL!

Only if they got more like this:

More and more black people left the tri-state area and the West Coast (fleeing Mexicans) for the South, so, just due to demographics, Southern rap is now dominant and well be dominant from now on.

It Don't Matter Hip Hop Is Dead Anyway So Far I've Heard Nothing Good That's New This Year I Can't Wait Til Big Boi And Andre 3000 Album Drop Now That's Real Hip Hop.

Because REAL hip-hop is a NEW YORK NICCA talking about banging hos, gettin' paid, etc, etc.
