Was that supposed to be funny? Because I see Tumbleweeds in your pink childhood room you currently live in. So how can you afford rent living off minimum wage unemployment checks? You lying ass food stamp collecting broke ass sack of frito lays with legs.

Your cover letter started off good, a red flag came up whe you used "i fell like that my knowledge......". Try using " I am seeking a postion that will allow me to use my.......". If you do not know how to write a resume go to those job sites like career builder or search for a website that shows you how to write one. You can find a resume you like and just replace the info with yours.
Don't think because you submitted a resume they are going to call you. Usually there is a contact person for the job you are applying give them a call. Tell them you submitted a resume and you were wondering the status of it or say you are making sure that they got it.
If they tell you someone will call you in 2 days then you call them in 3 if no one calls you. Keep in mind you are not the only one applying for the job. Remember you have to sell yourself to the person you are interviewing with and the company so sound professional at all times no matter who you are talking to.
KEY IS TO NEVER THROW YOU RESUME OUT THERE AND WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO CALL. FOLLOW UP. Your resume could be 1 of a 1000.

Even though you kats are kicking the shit outta me when I'm down, this may be way HR managers are thinking when they read my resume. But what made you say that? Please elaborate.

usually people with "afrocentric" names get tossed in the garbage.

Even though the above information from Divine pretty much sums it up, I've uploaded a sample resume based off of my current resume. It's in word format and you can get it here: http://rapidshare.com/files/45460206/Sample_Resume.doc.html

Thanks Brugh. I downloaded the sample this morning and I'm working on reformating today. I love the format of the sample. Clear and concise. I have so much BS on my resume and none of it says anything.

Peace

I cant lie, that resume actually looks decent. It just needs a little something extra... How about adding a quick horizontal slice to your wrist.

Then you must present yourself as though you're worth that and more.
Presentation is everything.

Cover Letter
Keep it short. Address the position on a positive note. Comment on your experience and wrap it up. Let your resume be your prize winner

"I feel" is not a great choice of words when trying to convey your technical abilities. Exude some confidence by saying just that. I'm confident based on my experience I ..... OR Based on the job description presented I'm confident my skill-set....

Don't beg for a job or present yourself like a company will be rescuing you if they give you a job. You're talented, you've worked before / you'll work again is what YOU must believe and the demeanor you MUST have. Not arrogance but conviction based on facts. Be confident, comfortable, professional and just do you.

A technical resume format will work best in your case. Draw from your 6 years experience and lay out technical abilities but AVOID lengthy sentences Save the elaboration IF necessary for the interview/s

*Provided support in large and small environments / 50-2000 end users
*Windows 2000 / XP/ Vista /Macintosh / Unix/ Linux .....
*Working knowledge of DNS/DHCP/TCP-IP/WINS/ ....
* MS Office / Outlook / Lotus Notes
*Team Lead / Managed Projects / Supervised 5-10 techs per project
*Remedy/ Peregrine/ Heat / Manage Now
*Installed and/or configured hardware/ software for desktops and laptops....
*Provided technical support for clients using Oracle/ Sybase / ......
*Imaging / Deployment of Laptops and Desktops/ Asset management /......
*Active Directory / Citrix Console / SMS/ Cisco VPN / Nortel VPN......

SO on and SO on.

Example above is a good start... 5-10 one liners that give a decent coverage of your exposure and abilities. Give them just enough to have them interested in moving to the next section and calling you when they're done. When the call comes, then pick and choose what to elaborate on. Draw from your daily job experience/s and relate that to the job opportunity.

Back to the resume, when listing your JOBS just dress some of these aforementioned points (*) with a bit more detail but still keep it technical and to the point for instance

JOB A
Conflict resolution for hardware, software, network, and printers issues
Windows XP/ MS Outlook, MY SQL, Sybase, Oracle, Visual Studio.NET, Symantec, blah blah blah

The resume aint that bad. I have been in IT for 7 years and I can personally say the Philly job market is slow but it aint that slow. Like my man said you gotta use the key/buzz words like a champ. Like the other man said, you need to step up to the next-level, Help Desk and Desktop Support aint going nowhere. I can tell you from my exp. that the companies you worked for has a lot to do with also. And its not exactly lying but if you know something or anything about xyz put xyz on your resume. Mad people are good at stretching the truth and as long as they sound like they know what they are talking about most managers are bout it. I can't speak for everybody else but I aint never used a cover letter not once, never had a problem getting an interview.

Look man, don't get discouraged. I was out of work for 4+ months and I have a little more in the way of experience than you. I was working as a UNIX systems admin in the NY area and got laid off due to out sourcing. I kept my resume straight and posted it on monster, dice and yahoo. You could search those sites and look for positions that match your skill set.

About the buzz words, they may get you in the door and they may work for you, but if you dont know at least the meanings of the buzz words, the interview failure is sure to follow. The internet is full of explainations and a 1000 foot view of the position you are seeking and the terminology of that position will help you once you get into the interview.

Like the brother said about the area job market, it may be spotty. The web sites listed above will sort out the area listings for you. After which you can tailor your resume to fit the job you are looking for.

You are trying to get in the door and a bad resume will kill you before you step on the stoop.

Honestly brugh thank you. I love the structure of this one. I printed out what you said. I plan on formating and posting the revised version. I'm sure I can get this down to one page now with just enough to make a company interested. Blessings fam

@Buc and Inetd thanks family for the good advice.

Having a good resume does make a difference. I was using one that I created and I wasn't hearing shit. I went to my school and had the Job Lady create me one. Since then I've had 4 call backs. Two interviews and some other stuff.

Since my last post I've been hired on by a Fortune 300 Industrial Gas company. I start Monday and couldn't be more excited.

I had the same problem. Searched on Google and found one with the format below. Got an interview 3 days later and started job August 1st. Sitting at the crib supporting datacenters all over the world:
