Is Charlotte Catching Up To Atlanta?

Lol @ Atlanta being a world class city.

Atlanta in the 90's WAS THE SHIT. I absolutely loved living in Atlanta at that time, shit started heading downhill after early 2000's and all that fast and unsustainable growth caught up with the city.

When I first moved to Charlotte, I was very excited about the opportunities that may come being in what I thought was an "African American" city...

Don't get me wrong: there is a lot about the city I have come to like, but it took me way too long to figure it out and find my niche than when I was living in other major cities...

I don't hang out much here or party, but there are many places where I have found to go, lay back and lounge...there is a crowd of many young, African American professionals (and para-professionals) who live here who get caught up in the hype of "new money," but I'm not feeling the pretentiousness of it all...

There are also many young African American families that move here. You can have a decent way of life here, attend a decent public school, and have the mountains - or the beach - accessible to you in three to four hours. Atlanta is a little further away, I believe, from the mountains and any nearby beach.

For that reason, I'll stay here a little longer (cause I love my weekend mountain getaways), but I also see myself relocating to a bigger city for more diversity in terms of culture and heritage within a city. Everyone here seems to be obsessed with "new this, new that," tearing down historical landmarks and history to build some new tower or new condos...it's a soulless city, just like Atlanta, if you consider the infatuation with newness...

Truth.

They're doing the same shit Atlanta did...They're growing too damn fast and shit is not catching up with the pace. You building a new condominium with 200 condos but you can't even get half of them shits sold because the people simply aren't there because the job market here is starting to get too saturated. For example, I know the dude who owns the Epicenter and he's getting ready to go into bankruptcy due to the debt he acquired building and finishing that bitch during the recession.

Hell no. Not even close. But dont tell the clowns in Charlotte this. :ssshhh:

you damn right was there over the christmas holidays and wasnt but 2 clubs open. and i am from the country of s.c and we had 5 club pumping til 6 in the morning. my old lady talking about moving there shit. i will move to columbia sc first they jump 7 days aweek plus they got them bitches!!!!!!!!:dance::yes:

I heard about that on the news... they have that NC Music Factory area that royally fucked up the usual crowd the Epicenter had at Suite, etc. I haven't been to the NC Music Factory - mostly because I heard that they don't like to cater to blacks there. I say, fuck em  I'd rather hang out at Dharma Lounge or even a couple of the spots in Plaza/Midwood before I go somewhere I'm not wanted or have to push my titties out or hike up my skirt to get some service...miss me with all that :smh:

Ive lived in Atlanta all of my life, but can someone please tell me whats so good about Atlanta?

.........................

.....What am I missing?

get out of Peachtree City and come to the city:lol: just kidding

the only thing missing is a beach! the night life had died down a lot between 06 and early 2010 but shyt is back! A zillion clubs (hip hop, jazz, neo-soul, mixed crowds, dress code, no dress code, bars, lounges, etc...) There's too much to do if you have the funds. If clubbing isn't your thing, there's so many social circles out here, so much black power--i mean seriously i'm so uncomfortable going out of town sometimes, i see all them white cops and get butterflies, lol, cops out here aren't stopping you unless your riding with 4 ngz, riding in an old school, got dreds and a wife beater on or driving crazy. If your a family guy there's so many things for the kids. Cost of living was excellent until the economy crashed. Basically when the economy pics back up Atl will be back to where it was 12 years ago! Everything is still in tact. For the clubbers I keep pressing for the club close time to go back a couple of hours at least. But, many after hour clubs are getting around club closing time laws! The weather does suck though, we don't really get a spring or fall, its usually muggy or cold, we get 3 to 4 weeks of perfect spring weather a year. But, when the economy and real estate get back right Atl will be back, its in good hands, the brothers in our government aren't making the bad moves made in Detroit. Also the rich whites out here moving back to the city has helped the economy a lot.

They were saying Charlotte was going to be the next Atl in the 90s, its still some ways from being where Atl was but I like visiting there but I can see how it can get dull, my friends who are out there cosign that it gets boring, but family wise, I would consider living out there, it has some sections that look real peaceful. They say Houston is on the come up!

Where's the other chocolate cities where the upper class blacks outweigh the ignorant ngz?

They've been saying the same shit for the past 10 years since before I got out of school. In theory it should caught up as far as I'm concerned :hmm:

That shit is hilarious too because NC Music Factory is pretty much borderline in the hood, right next to the Salvation Army Shelter and Crisis Ministries. I usually tend to hang around midtown or plaza with the fellas when I have a chance, I like the laid back atmosphere of that area...if I'm on my "Fonzworth Bentley" shit, I might fuck around with NoDa or some of the little Ballantyne joints.

Columbia?

Get the fuck outta here, if I stop in at the Allstate Office in Charlotte there is nothing but Charleston/Sumter/Columbia/ transplants all over that bitch and they all say the same shit about S.C. there is nothing poppin off down there.

how much is housing in Charlotte?

Relatively cheap until you start encroaching on Uptown, Ballantyne, Matthews...shit, anywhere where it's a majority of white folks. I usually advise folks to look at University City/N. Charlotte to move to first because it's centrally located near everything and it's priced right.

Housing can truly range... rent can range anywhere from around $500 to close to $1500 for a joint downtown (or near downtown)...you can cop townhouses or single family homes around here (or in Southwest Charlotte) for under $150k even...you also have your much bigger homes that will run you $200k or even more depending on what neighborhood you are in (in South Charlotte, your home prices will go up more, though)

Yeah, I used to work around that area, so I know exactly what you're talking about...now they're about to build some condos in that big plot off of Statesville and where they tore down Double Oaks housing, and the money will come rolling in for apartments/condos in that areas...

Hey, don't knock NODA...I used to like that Preview spot, plus I hang out every now and then at Amelie's out that way

I hate University area :smh:
Too congested, but you're right about housing prices there...pretty good surrounding Northlake...until you start approaching Huntersville...I know people that paid WAY too much to live there and are regretting it now :smh:

Ive lived in Charlotte for 11 years after graduating Morehouse. Charlotte is Charlotte. We are the number 17 city in the nation. East coast wise for African Americans we are better than Miami, Boston, and Philly. But not better then Atlanta, D.C., or Ny. That about sums it up. We are growing fast, and things are cheaper here. You have to travel to a bigger city every 3 months in order to not get board. But its a great city and you can stack paper.

THIS. It is what it is.....I hate when people want to be like well Charlotte aint
got this aint got that. I really dont think the locals is begging you to move here from what ever hell hole you originate from:lol: There is no place like DC to me though,I love it the good and the bad. But Charlotte is hosting the Democratic convention thats major Obama loves it here and is in tight with mayor Foxx,I like going to a game and seeing Jordan on the bench,or out at sullivains....I like Atlanta but found downtown Atlanta dingy as fuck :( Sorry uptown charlotte is clean and thats what im use to. maybe i was on the wrong blocks or something. lol I did like the aquarium though and in all fairness i was staying in Roswell and venturing into atlanta during the day..... not into partying and bullshitin So i may have miss a lot in ATL

Where's the worlds largest news network headquarters located?

Soda?

Home improvement?

etc...

For example:

Try living in Camden New jersey for 6 months while working the night shift at Walmart. :hmm:

ATL is/WAS a beacon of hope for financially struggling ppl up north, Students, artist like myself and a black playground for black ppl from "white places" (like Seattle, Arizona and Nor cal).

I used to see fiends nodding out of heron everyday driving around B-more, never seen that shit not even once in ATL out in the open.

Man how the fuck are you going to try and make a comparison between the two. One is the largest city and the center of it's state. The other is a very small satellite city of a much larger city (Phila).

In my humble opinion ATL is fucked in the long-term. We keep talking about the economy picking up, ATL fucked up when they decided to not extend MARTA. Now traffic will continue to be fucked as gas costs rise. This will be the death of ATL. Folks living 50 minutes out. Money going towards repaving roads and highways instead of public transportation.

Meanwhile Charlottte has seen the writing on the wall. They are mapping out light rail as we speak. They are also getting ready to lay the plans/approval for rail from DC to Charlotte.

Charlotte, might be just as racist as ATL, but luckily saw that light rail and public transportation are just not for negroes.

No, my point is people move from places like that to ATL more more "opportunities".

I'm not juxtaposing the two, I'm showing why people from less "vibrant" places (like camden for example) view ATL as "so great". Same could be said for me for many years.

My bad.....got cha'

no i moved here thinking the same thing 4 years ago. charlotte is a finance city. You will meet very few people from here. the city does not have any culture like atlanta, there are jobs here but be very prepared to work in a call center doing bullshit. I used to goto atlanta when i was a child about kid about 15 years ago and still to this day i would say charlotte is about 25 years behind atlanta just because of there is no culture other than banking institution.

Once you get the Summer Olympics, that's it.

That shit is crazy here. Some of these niggas act like they're the fucking Hiltons or some shit and all they do is work a call center.

10 years ago, that shit was the hood. That's why Crisis and the Salvation Army are located there: it's where their clients were.

Yeah, they were getting people good with overpriced homes before the housing bubble burst.

There is culture here but it's not celebrated or respected. They will tear down something quick to put up a fucking Starbucks, mall or a new BoA office building. I spend a lot of my time pointing to where shit used to be to my son.

All of you who hate the A...why is black people still moving her year after year????
