Iron Maiden -- Comically Tortured

Don't mess with the heavy metal band Iron Maiden -- who have a hit called "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter" -- but that's exactly who one company just picked a fight with by naming its comic book "Iron and the Maiden."

Iron Maiden is now suing Iron and the Maiden, LLC -- because, according to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court
, the "confusingly similar" name was a ploy used to profit off the band's heavily trademarked name.

Maiden wants the company to stop using the I.A.T.M. name to sell its comic books, video games and other merchandise -- and also wants some money for the trouble.

Iron and the Maiden gave us this statement: "The Iron and the Maiden legal team believes that this case is completely without merit. It is outrageous to claim ownership of the well known term "Iron Maiden", a medieval torture device that predates rock and roll by centuries and is part of world culture, legend and lore."

Exactly what I thought after reading the title.
They might have a case if the Comic had ANYthing to do with Heavy Metal or music.

Or if they bit the logo design, the Eddie Character (that zombie looking dude who is their official mascott) or something. But just the name Iron Maiden???

That's just crazy...

Money poisons some people to the point of sickening disgrace...

These guys are legends, they should be bigger than that in my eyes...

They would need me as their lawyer. I would argue that the title of the comic had nothing to do with the band, but to do with the torture device from which the band got their name. Since the comic has nothing to do with the infringement of any intellectual properties that have been created by the band Iron Maiden, the lawsuit is of a false nature and the title is purely coincidental.

More like circumstantial. I mean they aren't even going for an infringement of copyright for the name itself obviously. But rather the irony that the name in the comic form presents.

From what homie posted above? It's quite obvious that "Iron" is indicating the buffed up killer dude and "Maiden" in reference to his stealthy femme fatale associate or what have you. I am just guessing here, no actual exposure to the comic itself.

Looks like it's on some hard-boiled, brute and babe, James Bond/ Flint type of shit. NOTHING in the slightest to do with Iron Maiden or their music. Just a play on the irony of the very common words: Iron maiden, like the medieval torture device. Bruce Dickinson and the Boys need to hire some new lawyers or legal reps PERIOD. Because obviously they have some first class jack-asses on their team as it stands...

WTF???

Actually, the entertainment industry in general has been getting away with stuff like this for years. Marvel should have no rights to trademark "Wolverine" because the name is that of the animal. So it is with "Iron Maiden" and all those cheesy lawsuits. Its a ploy for publicity and relevance because if you've never heard of Iron Maiden, now you're curious. Its that "no such thing as bad publicity" mess.

^^^Therein lies the problem and why I personally find this issue so fucking outrageous. Iron Maiden NEEDS no publicity. They are established eighties legends, metal gods. Part of the leading forefront who took Heavy Metal back from the punk revolution in similar fashion to how they say WuTang and Nas and them took Hip-Hop back to the East from the West Coast revolution, if I may.

If you like Heavy Metal music or even know anything of it in the slightest? You KNOW Iron Maiden, just like you KNOW Metalica, you KNOW Judas Priest, or even Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, if I may be so bold as to make that comparison as well...

What this is is pathetic and disappoiting...

Unbefitting of their legendary status...

Straight hate...
