This is 100% spot on and well articulated! Because we realize, (well, some of us realize) the number Christianity did to brainwash us blacks. But few realize how much white folks were also brainwashed, and how King James weaponized the Bible to make whites believe that slavery was Okay and that whites were pure and good.
So yes, they actually believed they were good people, and some believed they loved us and were doing the right thing, as their programming instructed them to do. And I've heard it from many white folks, how they needed psychedelics to realize how fucked up they were, because the one thing that psychedelics are known to do is unbrainwash the brainwashed individual.
