Sorry, but their movie industry rules their country in many ways. The business is huge and immensely popular. Of course, since it's a poor country, their 1,000 movies a year can't generate the same level of gross income as the U.S. blockbuster-ruled industry can, but that poverty also makes their film world the same sort of "escape" as 1930s Hollywood was. The people worship movies and their stars in a way that they don't in the U.S. anymore.

The "point" is that she's already a huge star in the East and doesn't need to "sell out" for some cheap American success in order to achieve status. She's far bigger in India than Will Smith is in the U.S., in terms of being an ICON.
