Enjoy the card, everyone. Should be a great battle. The first encounter was exciting back in 2007, and the hometown support is always strong for GSP. They drew 20 - 21,000 in April 2008 for the rematch with Serra, and this one is expecting 22 - 23,000 tomorrow night. Props to Johniz on the MMA/BOXING/K-1 ^

Good times, good times. Watched it at the lounge on the large projector screen (and the other 18 smaller screens were showing UFC/hockey/horse racing as it was at the race course/casino). Chowed down on beer, nachos w/ all the fixings and chicken + pulled pork as well / roast beef dinner / salad / club house sandwiches & Minestrone soup. They got our order wrong (so we got our initially-ordered Turkey panini sandwiches on the house, so I had that for breakfast). GSP ... man ... what can you say? He's a skillful, tactical technician in there. He hasn't lost a round dating back to 2007, and has PUT CLINICS ON: Koscheck / Serra / Fitch / Penn / Alves / Hardy / Koscheck again now. Really enjoyed that Pierson-Riddle battle from the undercard. Alves-Howard was solid, and props to the others on the main card with the finishes. Really enjoyed the card all-around. Good atmosphere in the lounge too ... no idiots and a pro-GSP crowd obviously. Gotta support our fellow Canadian and shit :lol: and really good sound/audio and you could hear the event clearly. Other bars/pubs are too loud and you can't hear shit on the commentary, and feel like going home and watching the event again a day or two later. So it was dope being able to actually hear what Mike and Joe were saying Octagon-side for a change :D

Yes - should be interesting to see where GSP goes next. SHIELDS is next ... but GSP is on his game right now. 8 straight wins + 5 title defenses (despite the fact that Shields is also undefeated for many years).

We shall see.

Shields is NO Koscheck. A lot of these guys train to take a beating but not to win. Shields ALWAYS fight to win ala Condit.
 
I'm looking forward to seeing a more relaxed/healthy Shields coming into his eventual fight with GSP sometime in 2011. It'll be fun to watch them go at it (without Jake having to deal with the drastic weight cut he endured leading into UFC 121 in October).

Had a funny talk with my brother last night. Called him up as he's 11 hours away and out of town ... wished him a Merry Christmas around 8pm. He was already buzzed, and hadn't seen him in 2 months. We talked the WEC 53 event, The Kick, and the WEC-UFC merger in depth, and he ended the call with - "January 1st ... who do you got?
