Improving your Credit and Credit Score

They are ridiculously high and I don't care anymore because I now pay them off before they hit me with a charge. If you want to borrow money , just get a line of credit and use that.

OK, i was on CreditKarma and they recommended some, all were between 20-23%

OK need some credit card advice case this is NOT my area of expertise at all...

She had a family emergency and didn't pay her credit card for a few months

She has had this credit card for like 20 years

Well they put her in collections and they calling her house.

Here is my question...

Can she CALL the credit card NOW and explain her situation and see if they can help?

Or is it too late at this point and can she only deal with the credit collectors?

collections company is calling her or is it the cards internal collections dept?
she has nothing to lose by appealing directly to the card issuer.
20 years timely payments will get her alot of goodwill.

I think it is an outside collection company.

Credit score hit 793 on Transunion this week. Other Credit companies have me at 750 - 770.

It took almost forever. Now I just need my company to pay off that company card I just closed. :(

I'm still trying to read the wealth of knowledge in this thread...

But I have question...

Are these debt consolidation places legit?

And how can you tell if one is goid?

And what EXACTLY do the do that you can't do for yourself?

Save the money and do it yourself, read this thread, the credit boards and myfico forums and you can win the scam called the credit game

Man I have to be honest I used to have to read contracts every day for months...

AND THAT was easier then navigatING credit boards.

It is just overwhelming especially when you just got one specific question...it is like quicksand I was on there for over an hour the other day aND just gave up cause it was just to much to navigate.

And to be fair the info was golden!!!

but it's just I can't explain it is just to much to wade through and I'm not someone who minds doing research and going through a lot of dense material.

But I'm going back in tommorrow night.

this woman said she went from low 500's to 700's in 30 days and just got a credit card with $20,000 limit:cool:

OK, i was on CreditKarma and they recommended some, all were between 20-23%

Credit Karma ain't the move.

They don't use a FICO score but an internal bureau score. And all bureaus have their own internal score. Which can sometimes be 50+ points higher. Which is not used by most lending institutions.

So don't take that Credit Karma score and go car shopping thinking you at 750 and your Equifax is actually 675.

FICO even has several scores for different things such as:

1. FICO 8 your standard score

2. FICO 2 your mortage score

3. FICO 8 atuo score

4. FICO 2 auto score

5. FICO 8 Bankcard score

6. FICO 3 Bankard score

7. FICO 2 Bankard score

NEW!!!

FICO 9 score has a Bankcard, Auto and standard score.

And all the above FICO score are different.

So as you see the shit gets quite confusing.

If you want great customer service, high credit limits and pretty easy qualifications try Navy Federal Credit Union.

*If you have been in the military
*If you have a relative who has
*Or a few other qualifying ways to join

You will not be sorry. A really cool institution.

If you trying to clear your credit report and need some assistance. I know a few things. I'll share what I know and it may help you!

Pookie,

I didn't even see this post.

I just shot you some info on Navy Federal Credit Union.

They are not a sub-prime lender.

What this person stated about going from 500's to 720 is possible. But it would depend on a few things:
  • paying off bills
  • deletion of derogatory entries
  • greater credit limits...bigger!
  • reduction of utilization
  • time during month any of the above occur
All or a combination of theses could cause the score jump.

I would not speak with the collection company.

I would call the credit card issuer. And work all payment and re-instatement of the card with the "original credit card company".

If you can not I would ask for verification of the debt and all charges, verification of my signature on an application from the collection company.
  • request in writing certified mail, return receipt
  • they got 30 days to provide info request
  • or they must delete debt from your report
That is the general outline but there may be particulars to your own situation. So be careful.

Ask if you have questions.

Be mindful BROTHER. Navy Federal is easy to work with but the customer still needs to be on point.

  • up to date payments
  • clear report of derogatories is great
  • Navy will fuck with you even with a derog or two (tax lein, collection, etc.,) with some age to them.
  • helpful if utilization is 30% or less...I try to stay 6% and below
  • If your people got military service. You can call give their name and join.
  • They will check your people's name through DOD I guess...Then you in
Good Luck!

Ask if you got questions.

Anybody trying to clear up credit report go to www.creditboards.com.

Its can be confusing but stick with it.

It got me in the 790 and low 800's.

1. first step start reading the board
2. get a p. o. box
3. order all 3 credit bureaus free if:
A. recently turned down for credit
B. 1 from each bureau free each year
4. Read, READ, READ!!!
5. Circle in red all derogatory items on your report
6. If all your bills are in your nickname Tim as apposed to Timothy, Bill vs William
A. Change to your given legal name with all bureaus
7. Change name, mailing address with all:
a. credit bureaus
b. creditors
c. banks
d. don't update collection accounts, leins or charge offs...holler before you fuck with these accounts

This will help with disputes. BUT READ, READ first before any moves are made.

Get this done 1st then holler back at me.

Navy Federal's highest credit card rate is currently 18% APR. https://www.navyfederal.org/products-services/cards/creditcards/creditcards.php
I just checked my account and I have the lowest APR that they offer for their Cash Rewards credit card (9.9% APR).
My FICO scores are between 827-835 depending on which type of FICO score you're looking at and which of the 3 main credit bureaus is reporting it.
As long as you pay off your credit card balance in full every month you don't have to worry about the APR (I haven't paid credit card interest since 2002ish).
I charge everything I possible can to my credit card(s) (even monthly bills as long as they don't charge an additional fee (percentage) for doing so) and I get roughly $600-$1000 a year back in cash back rewards.

Peace Solomon,

That is the ticket.

I got in on that same rate also.

I was doing the pay off the balance each month like clock work for years.

I just gotten a little lazy lately and helping out a few relatives financially.

But I'm going to jump back on my grind.

Did you get the Personal Line of Credit linked to the checking?

I jumped on that also.

I been a Navy Federal Member for 27 years I joined in Hong Kong. They are one of the top credit unions. Navy Federal running a member special this month. Every referral will get $50 and the new member will get $50. the limit is five people. so that's an easy $250 FOR THE MEMBER. They do this a couple times a year. The cool shit is as soon as the new member joins he can refer 5 people and make that $250 as long as it is this month.

I don't have my credit card linked to my checking with NFCU, but I do with Bank of America. I rarely ever use my NFCU checking account. I primarily use my NFCU Money Market Savings account and there's enough money in there that if it ever gets anywhere near a negative balance, I have much larger issues!

NFCU also has a great starter CD for anyone just starting to save money and want a safe way to let their money grow. They have an Easy Start 1 year CD that pays a 3.00% interest rate that you can open with as little as $50. The only catch is that the max you can put in it is $3,000. Once the CD matures in a year you can make about $90 if open it with $3,000. That may not be a whole lot of money, but it is higher that most CD's of the same time frame and better than just letting that money sit in a checking or savings account.

No BROTHER,

I mean a PLOC (Personal Line of Credit).

You can draw directly from the line or it kicks in if checking is overdrawn.

I beleive they maxed out at about $15K or $20K.

No, I don't have a PLOC. I'm thankfully at a point that I will likely never borrow money again. The only way I'd probably borrow money at this point is if someone offered 0% interest for a fixed amount of time, and then I'd pay the loan back before the interest kicked in.

cool!

That would be the best rate to have.

It used to happen a lot. Occasionally credit cards will offer 0% APR on balance transfers for 'X' number of months. Here is the best way to take advantage of those promotions. You need 2 credit cards (Card A & Card B). Card A offers a promotion of 6-12 month 0% interest on all balance transfers. Call Card A and have them transfer up to your entire credit limit to Card B. It will take a few days, but the entire amount will show up as a credit on Card B (assuming you didn't previously have a balance). Call Card B and have them transfer that credit to your regular bank account. Leave that money in savings or put it in a CD. Pay the minimum payments on Card A until the month prior to the promotion rate is over and repay the remaining balance (I'd advice you not to use Card A during the promotion period to keep things simple). I did this a couple of years ago and basically borrowed $25K for 12 months and didn't pay any interest on it (it was a NFCU Visa promotion). I put the money in a Money Market account that yielded 2% interest for the year. So the bank essentially just gave me $500.
