More like they're pandering to select demographics with hopes they will viewed as being "progressive". But the problem is they do this at the cost of losing the longtime fans who made a particular franchise successful in the 1st place.
Both Marvel and Lucasfilm have deliberately shifted the focus from what made their franchises popular AND profitable, to far narrower demographics that has only aggravated, frustrated, divided and ultimately LOSS much of their existing fanbases.
Instead of giving fans what they want to see (great stories), they give fans "gender specific" pandering and a bunch of "girl boss" bullshit.
As a result, each of the MCU and Lucasfilm movies and streaming series have loss more & more viewrs and revenue every year...
