Full 12 Man Roster

I'll be tempted to start Dirk instead of Duncan only as a roll player to pull the opposition big man out (clearing the hole for Shaq) plus that starting lineup dont have too many good ousid shooters.. Also I would trade Rodman for Durant and Moses for Karl Marlon only because Karl can do a lot of what Rodman does, with better offense, and with Shaq and Kareem Moses would not be needed plus Durant would give the team another pure shooter who could stretch the floor.... Also I would get rid of Stockton and trade him for CP3 for better speed, and athleticism. The only other change is I would trade Allen for Pippen, only because there are so many players on the team that can basically do the something Pip does so I would rather have another outside shooter and a clutch one at that, and there are non more than in prime Ray Allen..

C - Shaq
PF - Dirk
SF - LeBron James
SG - Jordan

I understand how you put your roster together. I think it depends on what brand of basketball you want to play though. I'm of the school of thought that says "Offense wins ball games but Defense wins Championships". I want a smothering cloying stingy defense. Because I am envisioning having to play another similarly situated team over a 7 game period.

Dirk in my opinion is a defensive liability. So is CP3 actually, while John Stockton I believe is either 1 or 2 in steals in NBA history (I have to research that though)... Yes... Stockton is #1 and Jordan is #3 and Pippen is #6. Basically I'm trying to build a defensive juggernaut that plays from the inside out.

Again... I'm old school so I think that contributes to how I would like to structure my squad. I think that pounding the ball into Shaq or Timmy is a good look as both of them are good at hitting cutters.

Trading Moses Malone for Karl Malone could work though. I think that's a smart thing. I'd probably keep Rodman however because I like to control the boards. It's a make or miss game and a team as the ones that we're building will always put up points, I just want to be able to get a stop or two or three in a critical moment.

While I would be loathe to give up Pippen particularly for Ray... I can see how you would justify it. He's definitely clutch... but it brings me back to defense. Pippen could easily guard 3 positions and maybe 4 on a good day... I've seen him be very frustrating to opponents on the defensive end. I don't know it Jesus Shuttlesworth even in his prime was a steady defender to the degree that Pippen was.

I think that Tim could actually do a good job at guarding Dirk. I wonder if Dirk would do equally as good a job in guarding Tim?

This also begs the question... What era are we playing in? Are we playing in today game where it is impossible to even touch the opponent without drawing a foul or are we playing in the Late 80's and Early 90's there a Kurt Rambis can get clothes lined and it not result in a rejection plus a fine plus a suspension plus a team fine. lol!

If Dirk has problems guarding I would put in Malone plain and simple.. I have no problems with Tim but Dirk give you more versatility at that position and a added wrinkle for the defense to worry about... The same can be said about Ray...... What you don't want is too much redundant in your positions, something were if you opposition may be good at defending, and if they can shut down one player they will have little problems with the replacement who has the same type of a game..

Also defense is not only blocking and stealing, sometimes with players like Durant he is quick and tall enough to guard a Kobe and perhaps not block his shot or steal the ball, but instead alter that jumper, I like these types of players... Thats why having a Durant, a James a Magic and Oscar and a Shaq, on the team you would have players who would make it difficult for any player to get his shot off... And if I wanted to go big, I can throw in Shaq, Karl, James, Magic and Jordan and have one of the most physical teams ever... But if I choose to have shooters, I could roll with Kareem, Dirk, Durant, Jordan and Allen a hybrid would be Shaq, Dirk, James, Jordan and Magic... The name of the game is versatility and exploiting match ups...

Some of you guys teams are lacking outside shooters that will open lanes for your superstars... I know many people feel that if you are good enough you don't need lanes, but if they are playing against a big team with great team defense, a lot of those stars will be bumping into each other due to poor spacing and having redundant types of players does very little to make a team better.. Seems to me some of you guys are just choose to put together the best set of guys at their position, rather trying to build the best team.
