NYPD cops angry over tiny 1% raise to protest at Gracie Mansion, hoping to send a 'strong message' to Edelman and de Blasio

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said that PBA head Pat Lynch is to blame for the very modest 1% raise proposal for cops with over 2 years of experience.

Cops furious over an arbitrator’s decision to give them a 1% raise will take their outrage to Gracie Mansion, the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association said Monday.

The police, who last week demonstrated outside arbitrator Howard Edelman’s Upper East Side home, will gather outside of the mayor’s residence on Wednesday.

“Feel free to bring any friends and family who can help us send a strong message to both Edelman and Mayor de Blasio that New York City police officers deserve better,” the PBA’s announcement said.

The protest pronouncement came just hours after NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said PBA head Patrick Lynch gambled and lost when he opted to go to arbitration rather than settle with the city directly.

DE BLASIO TO PBA: YOU'RE TO BLAME FOR 1% RAISE PROPOSAL

“He rolled the dice, and he lost on his roll of the dice. That’s quite clear,” Bratton told reporters Monday.

An arbitrator recommended 1% raises for cops over two years.

Bratton acknowledged officers are upset about the lack of raises, but said overall morale hasn’t suffered.

“I actually think the morale of the officers is pretty well,” he said. “Are they unhappy about the pay issues? They certainly are. That’s been expressed by Mr. Lynch.”

PBA boss Pat Lynch fired back at Bratton, saying that the “Mayor and Police Commissioner are confusing high-tech gadgets ... with things that improve morale."

But Bratton said the NYPD has given other perks to cops to make them happier on the job, including changing the discipline system, providing new bulletproof vests, and giving out smart phones and other technology.

The department is also overhauling facilities at the 77 police precincts, and replacing bathrooms and locker rooms.

“I think we’re doing quite well in addressing morale issues,” he said. “Everything else they’ve expressed concern on, we are addressing.”

Lynch shot back that the "Mayor and Police Commissioner are confusing high-tech gadgets that improve job efficiency and safety equipment, that they are required to provide by law, with things that improve morale."

He charged that arbitrator Howard Edelman's neutrality was "coopted" by the city.

"Our members' morale is at rock bottom because nothing has been done to help them feed their families, pay their rent or put shoes on their children's feet," he said.

Working for UPS you don't get to beat people up, speed, drink & drive, and act like a tough guy making up for all the years that they were picked on as kids.

De Blasio should respond by turning his backs to the protesters outside his house while drinking his morning coffee.

They should be happy the city doesn't make them pay back all the settlements for police brutality and civil rights violations. And now after openly admitting they are afraid to do their jobs do they really deserve any raise at all.

More whining by NYPD cops. Tell it to the millions on social security who won't be getting a cost of living increase this year. They average 1/4 of what these "wise guys and gals" get paid yearly. So shut-up, get to work and be thankful you have jobs

Pat Lynch is not only to blame as the NYPD Beat Officers are also to blame as they had a chance to throw this bum out of office and what do they do they decided to re-elect as head of the PBA. All Pat Lynch is good for is looking for headlines. Hey if the Officers don't like it then they should resign and apply for the PD in Suffolk and Nassau County. They're plenty of NYC Residents who would apply.

With Nassau PD's last contract you would make less than NYPD for the first 10 years if you were a city cop at top pay.

I like to stick with the truth and what is right, so we'll probably get along 50% of the time. In the past they've gotten outrageous raises because the went the arbitration route. Only an IDIOT (Patty Lynch) would think THAT would go on forever. That's how casinos make money. You keep rolling the dice, sooner or later you're going to c r a p out. Sorry Patty... this time the House (Taxpayer) wins! Too bad... So sad... Get back to work!

1 % is all NYPD should get compared to the hundreds of thousands/millions of NYC civilian tax payer dollars paid out for all the police brutality lawsuits.

So they are only getting 1%. In previous years when they went to arbitration they usually got more than what the city offer. They can't have it both ways. Too bad so sad. They knew this was possible when they went that route therefore there is no justifiable reason for them to protest. If they had won, they expected the city to honor the agreement since they lost they should do the same.
