how can you have a heart transplant if you are already dead by the time you reach the hospital? If you were to get a new heart you would have to have been on machines to keep you functioning while they searched out a new heart for you. Your heart just doesnt go bang and the doctor says oh let me throw in a new one like batteries in your remote. There isnt just a giant surplus of hearts lungs and kidneys laying around in fort knox for celebs when they need them.

His problem wasn't necessarily a "bad heart." It was some sort of disruption that short-circuited it. Even if it was feasible to transplant a "compatible" heart into a dying patient (which it isn't), the new heart would likely have similar issues. The task at hand was to RE-start the heart, and not replace it.
