Butin myopinion, a win over Mayweather would have made Marquez the top Mexican boxer of all time over Chavez and Ricardo Lopez. And over MAB, who he beat in a good fight. He would definitely have been seen as the best of his era by many. And the rematch would have generated millions.
If Marquez beats Floyd, he probably gets the benefit of the doubt against Manny in the third fight. Making him easily one of the greatest fighters ever.

1. This isn't about appearance obviously because I used the term beat.
2. Mayweather didn't torch Castillo in that second fight. It was another close fight with Mayweather just doing enough to win and appearances or not that is what generally happens in revenge victories when the first fight is close and/or doesn't end in KOs.
3. If Marquez figured out the game plan once, there is nothing in his resume that shows he can't do it again. In fact he and Floyd are the type of boxers that get better every time you face them so torching doesn't seem reasonable.
4. It wasn't supposed to be about Mayweather, because I, like most fans of boxing, can think about other fighters. I'm actually more into Marquez side of the coin and what people think.

Let me reiterate my original answer to your question and add to it. This is what would happen if Juan beat PBF.
1) Juan would give PBF a rematch
2) Juan would get torched in the rematch
3) Juan would fight PBF again and lose the third match
4) PBF would be finished with Juan. Not fight Manny cause he wants his money he lost in the lawsuit.
5) Which would cause Juan and Manny to fight for a third time
6) Juan loses again. Alaska goes into his car and cries to Merce. While I laugh as Alaska never gets out the car again and continues to cosign merce's opinion and e-stalks me until I get bored with BGOL.
