It was a LOT easier to hack back then using Google than it is now. Hell, almost anyone could be hacked backj then. Forum software got a lot smarter since and you can't hack via simple Google searches anymore.

Most people in this thread have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

Only real problem I see, is if you used your government name as your screename. If someone really wants to hack this site, they'll hack it whether it's open or closed.

Suppose people have the same screen name for multiple reasons. There might be people who's screen name is there nicknames from where they come from. Screen name could be connected to there Facebook in some way. Could be a married man on here who used a screen name his significant other is privy to. Now all she has to do is type in his screen name and his BGOL content is leaked.

My biggest fear is that someone types "Cac" or "faggot" into Google search and then a hundred BGOL posts pop up.

When I first signed up for bgol, I wasn't thinking about privacy like that because I didn't exactly know how this place was.

I was referred by a friend who said this place would like the old school stuff I was sharing on other sites at the time.

Over the years it came clear that members on this board seeked out and googled stuff about people. The base of most ock threads had came from context clues within simple posts made by the person that got ocked. Not out right info exposed. You know, one detail that led to another site that led to another site that had some real info of the person.

Truth is that all our info is here. Our IP addresses are logged here. Can't say they aren't logged because I run too many servers to know that they do get logged. No matter how anonymous we would like to be, we can be traced. The boss is a hack away from it; that is if someone cared enough to do so. But that's not just bgol, that's any website.

But it's whatever. Boss gave us an option that he said he will kindly oblige to if we were uncomfortable with changes around here.

Yeah. If people want to be as anonymous as possible, they need to access this with a VPN. Assume the VPN keeps personal info(even if they say they don't) and pay anonymously with yet another made up email different than the one used here. If you're truly paranoid, always access the site away from home with a VPN(not fucking work on the fucking work computer). If you're downloading 'illegal' shit or take your privacy seriously, you already have a VPN so it's no big deal.

The ocks were crazy. The man googling continued to go on even after this board got locked down. Some folks are just crazy like that. But yeah, cats were using screenames across multiple platforms and just practically giving their identities away. Blunt got caught up behind real info in his profile, and I think that's what most posters would have to worry about under a hack scenario.

I don't 100% know what you are talking about, but the blunt saga all resulted from a moderator using information that was available to him in the admin section to out a member. That was an inside job.

The board was never in any danger of getting shut down. I tried to protect that members personal info regardless if it was blunt or you, but the board was outraged that I was protected blunt, but it wasn't blunt I was protecting, it was the principal that no members personal information will be displayed on the board unless they chose to share that information themselves. - HNIC

Yes. I have some that I use on my servers. Hell there are plenty of free ones online you can just embed right into your signature if you wanted to. Like I said in a previous post, all it takes is enough hate/passion and some dedication to get at anyone on here.

Yeah, I remember some people (a couple of dudes anyway) had sigs that would say "your IP address is blah-blah-blah and you're in such-and-such city/state".
The city was an approximation as I practically live on the border of 2 towns but it was close.

My error message above is about cookies; I finally installed McAfee lifetime protection (came with PC) and it's blocking cookies from here I guess.
Being here is one thing. When you click a link that goes elsewhere - the pornhubs, etc. that's part of your trail. THAT'S THE SHIT Google is interested in:
- where ELSE you go
- your browser habits, so that ads are targeted to your proven interests

Let's see if we members can increase our numbers. like I said earlier, double the number of peolple who give damn.
EXTREME VETTING with a hand check in front of the BGOL home page when new "applications for membership".
Get as many additional people as we can to sign up by the end of the year.
At worst it can delay the change, if it doesn't solve the dwindling membership issue to cancel the wide open concept.
