If HNIC can do it, how tough can it be?

jk HNIC, don't ban a brotha. But I posted a thread a few weeks ago about these FM Transmitters for my Zune and just about everybody said they weren't worth it. HNIC posted he installed a car stereo that included an audio jack to plug in your Zune, Ipod or MP3 player and that he installed the car stereo himself.

So I'm wondering how hard is it to install a car stereo? I want to try that myself. I already have a stereo that replaced the factory stereo but now I want to replace it with one that has an aux jack.

That shit tough to do? Any sites showing you how to do it?

To be honest V.G. it's not that hard especially if you know the wiring diagram of your car, what u steerin???

You can buy the wiring harness from like Walmart and Target and it'll tell you which wire goes with which, even an aftermarket spots has the harnesses too, It just eliminates all the guess work ... Just be PATIENT and try to figure it out, Not being an ASS, Do u even know how to remove the bezel or area where your stock radio is... If you do all the more better..

Just have a couple boxes of fuses on hand just in case you blow a couple
If u need any other assistance hit me P.M. Fam... WeRd!!!

lol...be careful...this ain't a task for everybody...my boy tried doing it himself...fukked around and his shit started smoking...

Remove the bezel? Dude. :smh:

Preciate you not being an ass but did you read the post? Now I can follow instructions my ass off but I'm wondering what I'm getting into by attempting this. Now let me ask you, is this harness something standard that after it's installed, any stereo could use the same wiring layout? My factory radio has already been replaced.

Not Necessarily, It just depends on how that connecting piece like in this pic, The white plastic piece(this one is for a computer)...

It should be able to but I think all the Co.'s do it for theft reasons, Not all plug in the back of the Head units the same...

Yeah I recognize those. Power splitters.

Do you just match wire colors from the car to the stereo harness then plug the stereo in? My guess is its not that simple.

Almost, But what u have to pay attn to is like the power/acc, acc, power
In Ie: the power wirein my car is Purple/Red,The red being a small stripe

On my older rides it was always Yellow, yellow/red stripe or red/wellow stripe.
Now you have to figure out which one are..

Ground
Power
Acc
Power/acc.. What are you driving ???

go for the wiring harness for your model car so you dont have to splice that many times.....

usually there are 2 main screws that hold in a panel...once that one is out the way, the rest usually are accessible

be careful when putting all those wires behind the head unit...make sure they clear the radio and dont bind or rub against something hot...some head units get real hot on the back panel

you may or may not need one of those plastic adapter kits....it depends on the radio and your car....

if all else fails...buy the radio from a place that offers free or low cost installation

Depending on your ride if its newer their might be a trick to accessing behind the dash. On my Tahoe the installer did some weird shit with the gear shift and the fuckin dash panel opened up

Like most anything

Get all the parts First
Get all the tools needed First
Get extra connectors First

Do this is a Driveway not the Streetcurb
Have plenty of light
Start first thing in the morning
If you think you can do it in one hour, it will take three

Sony Head units have a special antennae connector

Take your time
Measure twice - Cut once

It's your car, Take your time
When things start to look over your head, Ask for help
When things are over both your heads, take it to the Pro Shop and then pay double.

If you want install a radio by yourself or with your boys, then look at Crutchfield.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-e1bJp3Q3xAX/cgi-bin/SuperProdGroup.asp?g=266150&cc=01&wm=tn

You will get:

1. Crutchfield MasterSheet™ gives you step-by-step, vehicle-specific instructions — complete with detailed illustrations and photos — for installing your new stereo and speakers. (Included free with the purchase of any receiver or speaker for this vehicle.)
2. In-dash Receiver Kit Fits
3. Antenna Adapter

All you will need to buy after that is the Factory wire harness Adapter for your car.

I installed Pioneer DEH-P4800MP receiver in a van six months ago, with no prior knowledge of car systems in two hours.

The only reason it took me two hours was because I made the error of splicing the factory wires instead of using the wiring harness adapter.
Also if you don't have it already, get the Haynes and/or Chilton repair manual. It will be very useful.
