I'm not political in any way. I was just interested to learn how his term/terms in office would directly affect your day to day life?

Sorry to admit it, but I only know a little of his policy.

Without going into his policies all i can say is that the world will look at the black man a little different.

We are portrayed in the media all over the world of only being capable of being athletes and entertainers.

I think it will be a psychological boost for little black (and for that matter all minorites) girls and boys. They will see that the most powerful man in the world and his family looks like them and their family.

I'm more concerned with what his election would do to the state of race relations in this country, as well as restoring a sense of pride in black people.

I was just thinking about this. Instead of looking up to 50cent, Pdiddy, and Jay Z who promote a thug edge to their image of intelligence, namely on the business side. Many young brothas can drop their thug side and just be intelligent. They can be proud to be smart and realize it is cool being who they are without the thug pose baggage.

No One can put it better than what he said ,

Bingo. So much of our history has not been included in history books. Our children get to see very few positive images of themselves while receiving an American education. Well, this one will not be able to avoided. I think it'll be huge psychological advance for us. A black president with swagger... whodathunk?

c/s this.

I appreciate the comments so far, but I think the responses have been from a broad social outlook. (IMHO)
An example of what I was looking for in my query would be something more of a personal nature. Like:

" I have 2 children, and because of Obama's educational plan, they can attend a better school at the edge of our district unlike before."

Again, thanks for the responses.

CO-SIGN
TO ADD
THIS WILL DIRECTLY AFFECT THE MINDSET OF MY KIDS.
I EXPRESS TO THEM VERBALLY AND BY EXAMPLE
THAT THEY CAN DO ANYTHING THEY WANT REGARDLESS OF SKIN COLOR.
THIS WILL REINFORCE THAT ATTITUDE THROUGH FURTHER EXAMPLE

It may not effect me directly but him getting elected will symbolicly break the ass ceiling as a black man will obtain the highest office in the nation.

YESSIR!!!!!!
MAY BE EASY TO GET SOME PUSSY FROM MORE DIFFERENT RACES TOO...

i can actually say that i saw & experienced something GROUND BREAKING in my lifetime

instead of me telling my little sister and other youth about the endless possibilities and then finishing the sentence with, you can be the first black president and they give me that look like "negro plz" now i can say, you can be the 2nd or 3rd black president

and u say that ur not familiar with his policy, i would suggest you take the time to get familiar, not only with his but current and other candidate's proposed policies so you can make an informed decision.

I'm noticing a trend here.
All of the responses have been race-related.
Having a Black man acheive the highest office in America would indeed be great. Young brothers and sisters having something they can look up to outside of rappers and athletes would be great.

But is that all his victory would be worth?

I couldn't agree more. What this man is doing not only for white black relations in America, but what he is also doing for African American and Black African relations in America is simply amazing. There was a oped article written in the New York Times about how electing Clinton would be allow America to smash the glass ceiling that has held us for so long. Its ridiculous to think that a white female millionair, who is the wife of a former president could break a damn thing more than the black bastard son of a African immigrant!!!! I've always been proud to be African, but I'm even more so these days watching him show America that we're not all smelly cab drivers that hate our fellow Black Americans!! ROCK THE FUCK ON OBAMA!!!!!!!

1. Unnecessary wars will not be wagged
2. My children will receive tution credit in return for community serviced. And so will my less fortunate family and rest of the U.S.
3. Health care will become more affordable.

There's three that I think are important. I was to young to realize how Clinton changed my life. So I ask you how did your life change when Clinton was President. All I know is he left office with a surplus, he played the sax, and he got NAFTA done. Th gov is not a business so they don't need a surplus, if Bill didn't play the sax I don't think he would have been coined the 1st black President, and NAFTA has taking jobs away from black truck drivers and others.

I also ask how will your life change if McCain is elected President.

Huckabee wants to eliminate the IRS. The IRS is one of the largest government employers with 85,000 people in addition who knows how many companies and individuals rely on does peoples taxes to earn extra income. If you abolish the IRS who does taxes for the corporations?

I feel that on the black male side of things... Policy wise its not how it will affect me right away. Its more a future and the potential of going in the right direction for my children... when I have some... Mccain literally doesn't have shit for me. Not one reason for me to vote for him... Not one. That is Scary.

oh yeah...let's not forget the example of his family also

and now i can give my friends a live example of a man of color, black if you will, that is about something so they can stop saying that a) black men aint shit nowadays and b) that black men don't respect strong black women

also, i can say....see boo "the 1st lady don't tolerate that shit so y should i" hahaha j/k

As far as domestic policy goes, he and Hillary Clinton are not so far apart on agenda. I think most Obama supporter's firmly believe he is more likely to actually get the shit done that they both talk about.

I agree with that. Hillary is far to left sided to get shit taken care of. The fact that Obama is willing to truely and has worked with both sides of the aisle to get this things taken care of is a major plus.

Good post.
To answer your question on how my life changes with each POTUS' terms in office, I look at it all like this:

You and I have, and will still catch hell living in this crazy world of ours no matter who is in office. Its our personal choices against the backdrop of existing power structures that enable us to survive and/or live above just surviving.
If McCain wins, I wouldn't believe for one second that any of us would stop striving the same way that we always have. May be a bit harder still, but when have we as a people ever just given up in the face of adversity?

I was joking around and having this same conversation with a VERY intelligent homeless dude that I know. He's a witty character, so I almost wasn't surprised when he painted this analogy:

"Even if the cashier at the grocery store is a grumpy bitch, you still gone buy your groceries!!"

it wont...

that's why you get vague answers because it really wont affect your day to day life. people need a civics reality check in the worse way. there are 3 branches of government with assumed checks and balances so anything obama tries to do as president still has to come before congress, which will tear it apart because democrats dont have a true majority. the supreme court is still a republican institution, but can change within a presidency if some members kick the bucket, but minus some executive orders that could impact you in the short term, presidential policy is slow to move and doesn't affect your day to day life.

its also interesting to note that as much pride and esteem we'd get with a black president, we'd get backlash and animosity from other races. this country's race relations are going to be in the shitter

If Obama gets the nomination and is elected President I don't see where I would be directly affected. Indirectly yes, like when Bush took office we suddenly began paying excessive amounts of money for gas.

Direct effect no, Obama is not the messiah chosen to lead us black people to the promised land. He will be the President and will have to address world issues. He will also spend much of his term trying to correct and change the mess Bush/Cheney has created over the last 8 years. His goal will be to change the direction from where this country is headed.

Yeah, because White kids look up to whoever the president is:rolleyes:. The bottom line is that kids have always looked up to athletes and entertainers, Black & White.

White boys don't sit around speaking of George Bush, like they're in awe of him. Most Amerikkkan kids don't even know who the president and vice president is.

Their role models will not change. In Amerikkka, just like damn near every other country of the world, David Beckham, Tiger Woods, Britney Spears, and Michael Jordan are going to still be role models.

Without going into his policies all i can say is that the world will look at the black man a little different.

Uh. . . . I don't know if that will change all that much. I mean, the crackheads, drug dealers, rappers, pimps, and everybody else will still be the ones they see every day.

I'm noticing a trend here.

Pretty much. Black Amerikkka's problems have never been lack of "role-models". It's been worse schools, lesser job opportunities, and corruption on the part of our local elected officials, and and most of all corporate Amerikkka that continues to operate within the good ole boy network. If those factors don't change, then nothing changes. The idea that people will treat me differently because of Obama is ludicrous. White people who turn on Oprah and worship everything that comes out of that womans mouth, see me and cross the street, why? Because I'm not Oprah. Oprah, just like Jordan, Colin Powell, and Obama aren't seen as "like the rest of us", that's why White people can accept them. We already know that select few of us can be accepted. Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice are accepted.

If Obama gets the nomination and is elected President I don't see where I would be directly affected. Indirectly yes, like when Bush took office we suddenly began paying excessive amounts of money for gas.

Exactly. Finally, somebody with sense. He'll spend his term digging us out of the mess that Bush made, and then you'll see gradual changes based on his policies, like in say 3 or 4 years, but there wont be a scenario in which Obama takes office and no drugs are bought, nobody gets shot, the police stop harrassing us, and the media's gonna yank 50 Cent and Souljah Boy off the air in order to only show "positive" portrayals of Black people. That's not how it works people.

Nope, you are wrong. Up to this point there have been 43 white presidents, these are symbols of what a white child can become. When that history book is opened, when that museum is visited, when pictures of that president is plastered on mugs, curtains, bumper stickers, coins, dollar bills, and all those other material matters---it becomes a living thing, a daily reminder of the possibilities for that white child. When a black child surveys his or her environment for clues to what they can become usually----music stars, athletes, or something in the entertainment field. Yes and the black youth can look up to black symbols of success in numerous fields like in the judicial field, medical, and many others; however there has never been a black president. Barack represents a new possibility of what that child of color can become and talk about with pride at the prospect of their future that truly has no limit.

Amerikkkan Idol you must not be black. You don't know what it's like to be told in school ---Your people were slaves and then there was Dr. Martin Luther King jr. ---- that was it, while almost all of the text book was focused on the accomplishments of white Americans. Barack, again, offers a new hope, a new mindset, a brighter future for black children everywhere.
