Idris Elba-Marvel's Luke Cage

Personally i don't know anything about this super hero Luke Cage. Can Elba be a good fit for the character?

Idris Elba is slowly becoming a go-to guy for Marvel Studios. The British actor had a bit part in the surprisingly successful Thor and costars with Nic Cage in the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

According to Screen Rant, the Takers star has his eye on another diamond-in-the-rough for the superhero hit-making company -- Luke Cage.

Since Marvel likes to add touches of comedy in their movies and there is always someone who thinks anything comedic with Black people involved is "buffoonish", forget that.
With the way they've handled their Marvel Studio films (if it's a Marvel Studio film and not one farmed out), it should be good based off their track record.

That's not a "slight".
It just that there are others out there.

I understand but, for the industry, "Blade" isn't the movie that elevated Marvel, that was "X-Men".
I used to think the same thing but a friend of mine who actually was associated with the movie reminded me how they purposely didn't make any connections to Marvel or the "Blade" comic book or character until the sequel. "X-Men" was their first movie that carried the Marvel brand.

Luke Cage would be an action hero and there are no franchises started with old characters. Luke Cage eventually becomes a husband/father but I doubt they would start a possible franchise with the character in that mold.

There's someone to say anything but the prevailing notion was that Robert Downey was the perfect choice mainly because he almost lived Tony Stark's life except for the armored crimefighting.

Wesley Snipes, Tom Cruise and Robert Downey are and were much bigger stars than anyone we're naming here and had name value. Does anyone think Terry Crews has that same pedigree?
Statham? Statham is a niche star. Marvel isn't into making their movies in the mode of Statham's normal movie.

Again, you mention someone who has a long track record of success. The first movie Arnold played where he was a family man/action hero was "Commando" and it flopped and was horrible. It wasn't until much later when he could play those kinds of roles.

when it comes to Marvel charcters he's biased against older actors...who happen to be Black.

I think that acting talent should be placed higher then physical appearance right now. If you have someone who can clearly act (Idris) then you are half way there. All they would have to do is put them through a training camp like all the other superhero movies do and he would get the physique needed. Hugh Jackman, wasn't ripped before he did Wolverine and neither was Gerard Butler when he did 300. Just my opinion.

Very few of them are ripped when they get those roles, and I have a hunch that some of them are roiding it up to get there too.
