EDIT: *I meant you're not your in the thread title"

I go to the flea today and was approached by 5 different niggas on some "check out my music I'm hot" shit. One nigga had the nerve to be trying to charge 10 dollars for his shit! As soon as I get out my car niggas running up to me. As soon as I get inside niggas running up to me. As soon as I head to the car niggas running up to me. That shit is so fucking aggravating I swear.

The last dude that approached me I lost it on him. I go:

you say you're music is good right?

Dude say's "Yeah my nigga fuck with me"

I say "If it's good give it to me for free and I'll listen to it top to bottom and regardless of whether or not I like it I'll pass it on when I'm done"

He says "Naa I can't do that fam"

I say "Well then are you trying to be an artist or a hustler cause if you're trying to be an artist at this level then your goal is to get as many people as possible to listen to your music. If you're trying to be a hustler then your goal is to try to make some money off some bootleg shit that even ya mama don't believe in"

Dude goes "It ain't even like that fam I'm just trying to survive"

I say "An artist is a brand and if a signed/radio played rapper can give mixtapes out for free so can you, especially now how the technology is so easy to come by and CD's cheap to press. Why would I pay 5 fucking dollars for a brand I never heard of and now I can go to the stores and get some popular "brand name" artist CD's for 7.99 now. That shit don't add up player. With them I know what I'm getting, with you it's up in the air"

Dude is quiet

I say "If you would've gave me your CD for free I probably wouldve paid for it still because I know you about your craft, now I know it ain't probably worth a damn. At the very least start selling that shit for a dollar. You selling shit for 5 dollars that's just a blank covered CD put In a damn blue sleeve! I pay 9.99 for artwork, booklet the fucking whole package!"

I can tell dude was pissed but these little niggas gotta get it together. They think cause they doing something "positive" now they obligated for a reward. Fuck outta here

Damn you crushed that nicca's spirit

Folks need to hear that shit tho.... be rappin like dude below and think they gonna get on somehow. :smh:

Nigga you was dead ass wrong. The brother created some shit on his own and he's tryng to profit off it. Nothing wrong with that. 5 oe 10 dollars won't kill you fam.

Fuck that.
The world got too many rappers.
99% of these cats need to quit.

I'm wrong? No my nigga they're wrong for trying to come up off some bullshit that they all of a sudden wanna try at the age of 25. Rap is the only genre that does this. Bands, some singers etc etc grow up playing the piano, guitar practicing for hours with a band 7 days a week, they show real artistry and passion. These niggas watch BET 106 and park everyday and now they want some bitches and hood celeb status and now I'm supposed to give them my money just b/c...na my dude.

I understand rap originated from the poor so these dudes might not have had an opportunity to play the piano or some shit. I get that and that's not the point. The point is present me something that's worth buying.

BTW I used to by dudes CD's all the time around the hood, and their music stays in the hood. Why? Because it's always hot garbage.

I've heard alot of hiphop in my lifetime and this bar none is the WORST track I have ever heard EVER:lol:.

I liked what you did there...you kept it hundred and a smart nigga would have took your advice.

Trying to rap out here nowadays IS a hustle fam, after hearing all of the bullshit that radio listeners hear on a daily bases, I can see why a young dude would expect to be able to sell a cd that THEY rapped on for $5.

Shit, I was tempted to make a cd my damn self called "This my CD" based off of all this BS that's out here.....j/k

But 4real, niggas out here rappin' bout "In My Levi's" and shit :puke::smh:

OP I feel ya.

You could have been a CEO of a label, or someone with the connections to put dude on the forefront. But instead of taking a chance on you and 'trying to survive' he could have missed out on something special. Dude don't want to pay his dues, can't be patient.

That's probably the problem with these new cats. They put a song on youtube, get every able body on the corner to pay a few bucks, they sign on the line - think shit like that is instant. You have to struggle for your craft and the minute these folks get questioned they tuck tail. And sometimes I think they know they not good, but they know shit sells and think they got the mouth to at least sell you some lavender scented shit.

Now I know of a rapper and a group here that is hungry. And I bet you a hundred if you asked for their music for free they would give it to you with no hesitation. Because they know they worked to make a quality product and they have pride in their masterpiece. They know you will come back for more, or wait for that next underground single. Dudes these days don't want you to come back for more, they just want that $5 now. Damn shame. :smh:

See you get the bigger picture that's all I'm trying to say.

So its ok to buy some shit you dont want because it most likely not any quality? bullshit fam..I understand the whole support angle but what this brotha told dude is more of a jewel then that ten dollas he asked for. Dude can take that advise and make way more with it then the saw buck bro.

Except he didn't even hear the nigga shit first. It could have been fire. Cuzzo was probably pressed for some bread so he was like "I'm not gonna give my shit to a stranger for free when this is my hustle". I bought some bullshit CDs on the street before but it really didn't bother me because I like to see my young niggas hustlin something other than drugs or out here doing unfruitful shit.

See you get the bigger picture that's all I'm trying to say.

I fully understand what you're saying as well, but I also understand independent dudes out here who rap that's tryna move a product too.

I'm not saying you should have copped it just to support him, or anyone else for that matter, but I don't blame these lil niggas for tryna sell what they think is movable.

I think the bigger picture is that most of these dudes could pick a totally fucked up way to make a come up, and you or I could be that temporary come up for them. :dunno: Just sayin'

real shit right here

I hear what you saying but now I'm supposed to reward niggas for not robbing me? But yet in a way they still robbing me by selling me BS and killing my ears.

I come from the same hood they do my dude. I really don't feel obligated to support someone for trying to be a good citizen. That's what you're supposed to be. Ain't no damn perks for that.

Sure there are artist giving out mixtapes for free and you can get real artist shit fot 7.99. That should not affect how you deal with a young cat on the street trying to hustle his hard work. My nephew does this shit so I have seen it first hand. I can get shit much cheaper from Walmart than I could from a small black owned business but I still want to support my black owned business. I see the same pricipal in this. Niggas aint got time to be waiting around for no bread. They standing out there to make bread not have someone shit on their dreams. A lot of real talented cats never make it and all good sounding music does not sell. Just take it for what it is and give the lil niggas a few dollars.

Yeah I respect those lil niggas grinds but like any other product you shouldnt buy it unless you know it is quality..That is called branding. Dude should have said let me pop it in and give a listen but you dont buy a niggas shit just because he is doing something right! Shit he's supposed to be doing something right. Thats like when bitches say "I am a single mother and I take care of my kids"...I be like yeah bitch that's what you supposed to do anyway.

See I feel what you saying but at the same time it's supply and demand. All these cats are trying to do the SAME shit....rap. I was in the flea for 5 minutes that's it, I was approached so many times that I felt like I was at a hip hop convention.

I support black businesses and the whole nine, it ain't about that. Sometimes I swear we as blacks limit what are capable of doing tho I swear. The sad part is some of these cats look old as dirt, they supposed to be past that phase by now. Time to face real life

I'm not saying that you should feel obligated to buy anything from anyone, my comments were geared more towards you saying how frustrating it is to have dudes bum-rushing you as soon as you hop out the car.

Me saying that "we could be there come up" was more or less a way of saying, I'd rather you TRY to sell me a cd, than for me to have to peel your shit for you TRYING me, because we'll both lose in that situation.

Basically, all I'm saying is I never knocked a young dude tryna get money from selling a cd. I don't buy dudes cds any more either, because as you've said, that shit is ass almost every time, but I still don't knock them either.

I feel what you're saying....kind of.

I don't really have a problem w/ somebody trying to make a living off of their craft. Some dudes really put their blood, sweat, and tears into their shit. They may have invested in studio time, production, and graphic work, etc. And that can be costly if you really paid for something quality.

However....if dude ran up w/ a fuckin' blue sleeve w/ a blank disc inside and expected you to buy that shit sight unseen then he really deserved what you did to him. That's just flat out poor presentation. And he should've, at the very least, had some kind of way to let you hear or get a preview of what he was trying to sell you. At least have a portable cd player or something.

I have more of a problem w/ shitty presentation than the fact that someone is trying to sell their music.

This is very weird.

Someone created this OP before. I'm not sure if it was on BGOL, but I remember reading the exact same story somewhere online...

Maybe it's possible b/c this situation probably happens to damn near everyone on here from time to time but this is my story nobody else's.

This story always happens, it's just that no one reports it because it's normal for young dudes to try and get money by all means.

This story happened to me like 5 times this year alone

First & foremost, I need to do this right off the bat. I'm giving your post my coveted, Birdman 5 star rating. Brthrthrthrth... Brthrthrthrth my dude. Real shit!

I swear to beans I meant to make a post just like this a few months back. I certainly like to see dudes out here getting it some way other than scrambling or doing jux. Maybe the first wave of Street/CD rappers could have gotten away with these stunts, and they did. I've bought my fair share of street niggas CD's. 99% of them have been hot garbage with horse flies. Now a days that $5 & $10 unheard shit with no artwork or real marketing strategy just won't fly over here. Niggas is fucking the game up themselves because "consumers" can smell them coming like a crackhead with a sob story. Most people don't even want to hear that bullshit.
I have to give props to some cats who I've seen carrying CD players (I hate to see niggas in the hood still rocking those big ass Discmans... get a fucking MP3 player!) to allow you "sample the wares". But seriously, I don't want to put on some headphones that every Tom, Dick & Harry you could stop has had on. :hmm: But A for effort, for real.
My last encounter was in Rockville a few months back. I was sitting in the parking lot waiting for rush hour traffic to die down so I could make it back to Bmore. Thuggish looking dude who definitely wasn't from around there approaches me. No problem, I had it on me and I was willing. I think he must have seen my hand position and quickly spoke up about his intentions to offer me his CD. I was like, "this nigga...". I wasn't even trying to hear his pitch, but he was persistent and had a good sales pitch. Since I was in the ride, he offered for me to pop it in the deck. The production quality was so ass, it took everything in me not to laugh in his face. For that bullshit, he wanted $5. Imagine if I hadn't previewed it. I would have been jive like pissed!
I'm just saying that these dudes need to step they're game up. Don't stop the hustle, but change the game.

That still doesn't stop most people who can't sing and it wouldn't stop people who can't rap.Besides wack rappers know that they're wack they just realize that there are alot of stupid people who will buy their shit regardless.

Damn you crushed that nicca's spirit

Folks need to hear that shit tho.... be rappin like dude below and think they gonna get on somehow. :smh:

Naw, he actually did the dude a favor. Truth hurts, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. If the dude is real about it, he will probably re-think his marketing strategy now.
Or at least alter it so it's not just about the immediate dollar he can make...If he isn't serious he will keep doing what he's doing and eventually lose interest cause he won't bank shit
