The show premise started as a strong black female who is a fixer in DC and it became the Fitz/Grant Show guest starring Olivia Pope as the pathetic whore mistress in her own show. Hopefully, this season will be more about Olivia as a person as opposed to her sex life/vagina. I hope we learn more about the associates (save Huck, I guess), last season it was all about the White House Soap Opera Drama and it got old.

I think the show would have gotten the hook after the opening episodes if it tried to do all that. I read a profile of Rhimes in Vanity Fair and she's been into politics since watching the Watergate hearings as a toddler, and she went to Dartmouth. If the show isn't tackling those issues that she is definitely aware of, it's on purpose. For instance, I noted when watching the show with someone else, how horribly bad the newscaster was when they were announcing the events with the president being in the hospital. I hadn't yet read the Vanity Fair piece and didn't know much at all about Rhimes, but I knew that was purposeful. If she'd come out the gate full on attacking that political party, the show would have come under extreme, extreme fire and been killed where it stood.

I never said she had to attack a political party. I don't think presenting a party's positions for what they are equals attacking them. While I find those positions grotesque and loathsome, the people who hold them are quite proud of their views. I bet they find my views grotesque and loathsome. I know I wouldn't be angry if a character accurately represented the platform of the party for whom I vote.

I am unwilling to concede that she is up on politics because she alleges that she was an expert on Watergate. I also don't know how her having attended Dartmouth has any bearing on her knowledge of politics. There are people who've never set foot on a college campus or have even graduated high school who are quite well versed in politics. There is a very good reason why Rhimes doesn't bother with such things as knowing the difference between the Patriot Act and the Authorization of Use of Military Force: she's gotten away being being lazy and she knows her viewers don't care or know enough to know she's wrong.

This whole storyline should'v never got started based on this. Remember one of the first episodes where the woman claimed to be having an affair with the president and Olivia was sure she was lying? What did the other woman say that let her know she was telling the truth? The President called her the samething he used to call Olivia when they were fucking.
