That mother fucker knows damn well what Jalen Rose meant, don’t give me that bull shit about not knowing how Duke gets down, I have been watching college for over 20 years, yet have I seen Duke recruit an inner city kid, No they recruit uncle toms, look at the fool on ESPN college basketball show Hubert Davis, look like a fucking IDIOT with that white boy haircut, I am just hoping Jalen Rose is straight after all this fuckery, because you and I both know Duke would never recruit Allen Iverson, Ron Artest, Micheal Beasley just a few off the top of the head, and don’t get it twisted Brand, Maggette was not inner city kids:angry::angry::angry:

Hubert Davis went to UNC

Chris was dead on, he gained more respect from me, and did it in a way as to not offend anyone or either side....and he basically said Jalen used a poor choice of words, and he's right...He (Jalen) could have said it all in a better way and not offend so many people...Duke, and specifically coach K recruits whomever he feels will help his program, and he probably wants "coachable" players who will follow direction, as most coaches do...Kids with individual type of personalities, or drama filled backgrounds probably won't be recruited, and can you blame him??....if he recruited no Black kids, or didn't play his Black kids, then you'd have an issue, but thats not the case...If Black players had a problem with Coach K, or the school, you would have heard about it by now...Now ask Jalen if he had been good enuf to play for that Dream team w/ Lebron and Wade, etc, with Coach K as the head coach, if he would have kept it real and turned him down... On another note, Jalen was on that panel of athletes that were speaking on MLK day about the state of the Black athlete, and he made the a few simple remarks, that most gave him a pass on...He said when he was at Michigan, the saying was white kids were recruited for 2 reasons, free throw %, and GPA....and another saying was how do you keep a secret from a brother?...put it in a book.....what he said may have been true to some extent, but saying it, on that day, at that time was not the time to do it...and he just opened himself up to more criticism...many of us here probably had a disliking for Duke, or the Celtics of old, and a few other programs because of the way they did things, but there is a way to say it so that it doesn't offend the wrong people, and Jalen failed to do that...Grant Hill doesn't deserve the name calling then or now....the way the message came out he offended Duke, Coach K, the Black players on their team, their parents, the fact that a quality education was important, the fact that we all want to be successful in life, and he simply summed up the whole situation as brothers Tomming for Duke...and thats absolutely wrong...Jalen is quick to point out how intelligent he is, how he had the grades at Michigan, and was a good student...thats all good, he has book smarts, but what he often shows is a lack of common sense, and lack of knowing that there are still boundaries when trying to keep it real...

Chris followed a popular trend; throwing Black men under the bus.

Only a complete retard OR and opportunistic UNCLE TOM could misconstrue and twist what Jalen said.

I seems nobody heard Jalens heartfelt rendering of his own feelings at 19....He was envious and jealous of Duke and that turned into anger...Doesn't everyone not accepted by the establishment feel that way????

...Hard to follow your reasoning, but it seems too many folks love to use the Uncle Tom reference when they don't even fully understand what it means....He could have said he hated Duke, Coach K, and the players that attended Duke, without calling him an Uncle Tom...Duke is an elite, predominantly white institution, and so is Michigan..Rose made a choice, Hill made a choice...whats wrong is Rose claims, "“I hated Duke, and I hated everything Duke stood for,” Rose said in the film. “Schools like Duke don’t recruit players like me. I felt like they only recruited black players that were Uncle Toms.”..So any Black man that didn't grow up like him, inner city, single parent, and poor, is an Uncle Tom if they choose to, or can pay to go to an elite school, for a great education, JUST LIKE Rose did??.....If Jalen wanted the Fab 5 to be that DOWN, and that bold, then why not all 5 attend an HBCU and put a Black school on the map for 4 years, a la Texas Western of the 60's.. .Rose could have called Grant the N-word and it would have been less of a problem, choosing the words Uncle Tom was just inappropriate, wrong, and weak...and is exactly the wrong message young folks who look up to both Rose and Hill need to hear...you can love the topic, the issues that Rose's documentary brought to the table and completely hate the words and destructive use of the language he chose to use to make his points...

This was the Fab 5...not necessarily a current state of the NCAA address...@ 19 years old I def woulda called Duke Bitches n Uncle Toms too...I didnt know any better....

The Question is if they asked Rose how he currently feels about Duke, how would he respond.

This kind of divisive thinking is killing our community. You come across ignorant as hell.

Bottom line is Jalen didn't even know Grant Hill personally at time he felt this way, which makes all this discussion about it today null and void. Jalen was just doing what most young niggas do. Talking Shit!

Whitey playing the smoke and mirrors trick again with this shit. Ask yourself why the media is so focused on what Jalen said about his feeling about Duke at age 19 and not about all the racist letters and comments that were directed at Jalen and the rest of the Fab Five at the same time?

Texas Western (now UTEP) is not an HBCU

But you make a good point, can you picture the fab 5 at Southern playing for Ben Jobe?

I can't believe people are still talking bout this bullshit. Fact is very few are remembering that Rose said that really he was jealous of Hill and Hill's relationship with his father. Also, I think its interesting how no one if talking about the racist hate mail the Fab Five were getting from Michigan alum at the time.

Jalen, C.Webb and Hill have known each other since they were 12 or 13 years old. They met on the AAU circuit.

...Since all of this has blown up into a huge issue....has Jalen come forward now at nearly 40 and said how stupid he was to have had those feelings about guys he didn't really know??...has he apologized for calling them the names and referring to them in that way??...has he pointed at himself for anything he may have said that was out of line??...has he corrected the problems that he may have created, even if his original intentions were good??...He doesn't have to apologize for his feelings and some of his poor judgements as a teen, but he owes it to all involved to come correct at 38....he produced the documentary, and now he has to defend it...otherwise he has no credibility in the future in anything he says or does.

Jalen owes nothing to anyone. It seems only retarded cry baby bitch asses took what Jalen said out of context. duke created its own stigma, and the school needs to own up to that. And I will always question Blacks who insists on attending that university.

...do you question why players go to UNC?, what about Indiana, when Knight was there?...Kentucky?.....there is more to an institution than its athletic program.....So a private university that is very selective with choosing all of its students, no matter the race, and is also selective in choosing its athletes is wrong, but an institution (like a Michigan) that chooses Black kids ONLY because they can play ball well, and can guarantee them wins and $$$, is the good guy?.

These colleges don't have that stigma attached to them (and yes, even Bobby Knight's mark ass, who I never liked) that duke has. AGAIN, duke brought that upon themselves. Act like some elitist crakkka blue blood organization, you will get treated as such (one way or the other).

If I'm a Black blue chip recruit, being courted by Georgetown and duke, why would I choose duke over Georgetown?

you didn't answer the question...not surprising...i'm not a Duke fan, but they win, I have to respect the program for what they've accomplished...and from what I know, they have done it clean...Jalen turns his nose up at the elite schools, and the brothas that play there, graduate and move on successfully in life...and yet, his Fab 5 buddies are the ones responsible for their school being stripped of wins, banners, etc....they left a stain on the school even with all the Fab 5 fanfare and good times..and may be the very reason Duke, and coack K, stayed away from recruiting them in the first place...In hindsight, its best that Duke didn't recruit them....a few of them left school early to CASH OUT, but thats not selling out your teammates, your coach, your school...they seem to want to forget they broke rules at Michigan, and it didn't turn out well....what am I missing?...if you're a blue chip recruit being courted by Duke, Howard, and Hampton, why Duke?..:smh::smh::smh:

They win but at the expense of player development. duke is a true college program. College programs are looking after themselves, not their players' futures. duke players at best have a mediocre NBA career, for the most part most of them don't amount to shit. If I'm a crakkka who has no athletic ability, fundamentally sound and know I won't go to the NBA, duke is the school for me.

If I'm a Black player with NBA potential, I'm not going to duke (amongst a plethora of other reasons) because my personal development will be retarded for the sake of the college.

When you recruit kids from "money" you don't have to worry about NCAA violations.

...Duke is a college, so they do what they are suppose to do.. WIN for Duke...they aren't the NBA farm club...educate the kid, and prepare him for the future, be it basketball or anything else...Other than Grant Hill, who else should have been an NBA star....Elton Brand and Battier have had some success, but Brand left school early. along with Magette, Henderson will be decent, and Jay Williams injury ended his career....who else should have been great in the NBA?...and given the top kids leave early for the NBA, why sign them for 1 year, when you can get a 2nd tier player for 4??? and yet they still win titles, so how do you fault them???...and if recruiting players who don't have a need to break rules has brought you success, why would you change it???...Michigan and the Fab 5 broke rules, so why are you defending that program?

And a more Black friendly college like Georgetown can't do this? There are a plethora of college programs that do better jobs at educating and preparing students athletes for the pros. Hey, I don't like Stanford, but if you get a QB from Stanford, you know 1) he's prepared for the pros and 2) he's smart and very well educated.

You're going off on tangents. I'm not condoning what the fab 5 did. I'm cosigning the Uncle Tom comment because 1) duke brought that shit upon themselves and 2) there are a plethora of colleges along the eastern seaboard where Blacks, Black student athletes can get a better education, better preparation for the pros, better support system and a post college network of individuals who will actually give a fuck about them.

Playing for a great coach, being on TV a lot, being praised a lot, and a chance to win the tourney every year. As a college kid you can't ask for more than that.

You making it to the NBA is on you. Trajan Langdon wouldn't have done any better at UCLA or Kansas. He was always flawed.

You can't say Duke is bad making pro players, when Georgetown's top players have been Greg Monroe and Jeff Green. Plus their offense now is awful and a reason Vernon Macklin transferred to Florida.

I don't find fault with Duke choosing to recruit the type of kids they do and I don't have an issue with how Jalen felt as an 18 year old kid.

What bothers me is how folks have taken this issue and are allowing it to be more divisive than it already is.

To Trey-Ga's point, there is just a bit of irony in a kid going Michigan calling a kid going to Duke elitist.

At the time both schools were coming off of recent Nat'l championship appearances (Mich '89, Duke '90) so this really wasn't a David vs. Goliath scenario.

...umm, how many great Black QB's have come out of Stanford???...the off on tangents is that you can't seem to make a statement and follow it up with anything that validates it....Jalen Rose made his choice, Grant Hill and others made there's...thats their business....if you pay grant's tuition then you can call him what you like, but if you don't pay his expenses its not on you to decide whats best for someone else...and because you lack the intelligence to understand that, it doesn't make you more credible by calling folks Uncle Tom's because they did something you wouldn't do...

thank you...G'town hasn't produced much since Poppa John retired...

...only a small minded, small picture type individual, would go to school to play basketball and expect the school to deliver them an NBA career...#1. its on you to develop your game beyond your college days and #2, you better have a backup plan if that NBA career never comes to fruition or you're injured...Big picture folks, get an education and a degree to help you be successful beyond your playing days...that goes for 99% of the scholarship college basketball players right now...only a small %, a VERY SMALL %, will have NBA careers.

Not Black QBs, I used stanford as an example of students getting an excellent education AND preparation for the pros.

Hey, when you are high profile, you are going to get judged. That's part of life. And when Blacks attend duke considering all the other superior colleges out east, I have to question that decision. If I'm a Black blue chip recruit with NBA talent, I'm crossing duke off my list.

If I'm a Black blue chip recruit with NBA talent, I'm crossing duke off my list.

..If I were a college coach and sat down and talked to someone with your logic, I'd probably cross him off my list too...I'd want players with both book sense and common sense...

bottom line:

jalen rose was a below average NBA player. if not, find some highlights on youtube. :hmm:

chris webber was good on offense in his prime... never played defense.

juwan howard is still in the nba... never amounted to nothing more than 6 fouls.

dem other 2 niccas of the fab five ain't worth mentioning.

and put all together, the fab 5... all 5 of them ain't never won shit... not a big 10 title, ncaa title, nba title... NOTHING.

dem niccas is a bunch of hype within some hype... with chris webber calling too many timeouts.

...I wish someone could explain to me how Steph and Seth Curry got passed over by all of the top schools and their dad is Dell Curry??....

co-sign...T-ga.....all hype, no substance...what NBA players are Championing what they did as freshmen and nothing else to follow up with???

The purpose of college is to set yourself up to succeed BEYOND COLLEGE. duke doesn't do that for its players.
