I Have A New-Found Respect For NBA Players. God Damn!

Anyone in here ever played against a real superstar? As I mentioned above, the best person I ever played against was Dion.Glover and he was a NBA scrub but as anyone played against a NBA all star? I'm curious what the difference is like

Yes, I have, but it wasn't a good indicator. They were REALLY just fucking around. However; they were trash talking each other and doing AMAZING stuff, but they were still just fucking off. Would've been nice to see them go all in, but there was nobody out there to make them do that. I did see a couple of All Stars play Rucker, and those dudes were kinda just toying with the comp too. Barron Davis' first year at the Ruck was embarrassing. Dude wasn't even trying and still lighting it the fuck up.:smh:

Barron TOO EASY Davis lmaoo

I was there for that game.. nigga came at half time and still dropped 30 on them cats :hmm:

I've never seen an NBA All-Star in person, but my uncle's friend played Kenny Anderson back in '95 in Charlotte, I think, and he said dude was truly on some next shit. This is a dude that was really respected on the streets for his skill, so for him to describe Kenny A. as some sort of basketball Jesus...

...dude had to be nothing short of incredible.

This is still one of the NCAA best highlights.

I know we're talking two different levels...

...but God Shammgod is the coldest NYC baller I've ever seen play. Dude moved like mercury with the ball in his hands, and, believe it or not, dude's jumper was automatic against those college and street ballers he was playing against.

Yep!!! That's what they were yelling! Dude was sick with it!!!

werd

Cats on the NYC bball scene know Kenny was legendary... Kenny was Rod Strickland's disciple so that should tell you something

Used to run a bit with Bob Sura & Sam Cassell when they were at FSU in the early 90's. Like every other story, those cats were silly wit it only goin' maybe 50%.

werd

Rod Strickland had INSANE skills. Really. I've seen that dude hit sit some of the most impossibly difficult finger rolls EVER. George Gervin is the most famous, and dudes will think I'm insane for comparing them, but I watched Strickland a lot, and the shit that dude was doing was nothing short of ridiculous.

Add to the fact that dude could penetrate through a key-wall and had the proverbial eyes in the back of his head, and it makes you wonder why he wasn't more celebrated as a player.

Rod was underrated like hell man... 17 seasons, 14 thousand points, 8 thousand assist...

my man never made the all star game once and he was a top 5 PG in the league at the time

My cousin's boyfriend plays ball overseas and told me he played in a pick up game against DJ Mbenga, and said dude was murdering everyone.

DJ Mbenga.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I swear that dude looks so lost out on the court that I question if dude can even play basketball AT ALL.:lol::lol:

I'd love to hear the stories. That nigga Marshawn funny as hell.

:smh:

he wasn't allowed to go full speed in practice with pads.

he had SEVERAL incidents where he broke tacklers arms...but in practice though so they weren't having any of it after his sophomore year

his stiff arm was just as bad...he put the hand on the helmet you went down. it was no contest

talk about STRONG... his strength doesn't really translate by what you see. he is so much stronger than lifting weights and carrying tacklers..

he's the dude that comes and lifts a bus out of a ditch and then goes on about his way like it was nothing

ive seen some things :smh:

Who are you talking about???

it is about confidence and context. ALL NBA niggas can shoot - especially guards.

also you underestimate defense. in the nba, especially for guards - especially at the one - you worried about not being able to get a shot off because of size - it's different just shooting in the gym - perfect conditions. it's different when chris bosh lunging at you, full reach, while you trying to shoot a J and you know you already 0 for 6 from the field. context is everything.

babe ruth said - I didn't hit a whole bunch of homers. i hit the same homer over and over again. it's about being about to produce the same result regardless of context. i paraphrased the babe ruth quote.

i seen this analysis of AI crossing a nigga and shooting a J - to give perspective of how a smaller guard has to compensate in order to score over taller players - and it was from his height/angle - he crossed the nigga - pulled up and was like 37 inches off the floor - fading back (AI fades back on almost all his jump shots) and the defender jumped - hands up to contest the shot and AI could NOT SEE THE BASKET - like it was not in his field of view - this nigga AI shooting of radar - he knows where the basket it/should be - he been doing it so long it's like a fucking science.

niggas don't remember AI dropping like 80-100 pts in the rucker in the late 90s-2000. he averaged like 60 a game one time. if you seen AI the nigga is not six feet. I'm eye to eye with the nigga and I'm 5'10" maybe 5"10 and 1/2 if a nigga get a yoga session in.

don't sleep - professional athletes are all freaks of nature AND WORK ETHIC.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I played against Quentin Richardson when he was at DePaul still. Used to work with him and go to school with him. Dude was sick of course. People don't realize this 6-5 dude lead the nation in rebounding as a sophmore at Depaul and won mr basketball in IL along with Correy Magette. He was sick though. I was surprised how nice his J was cause he wasn't known for it. Ended up winning a 3pt contest in the L. Crazy shit...

believe me fellas..... it takes a lot of hard work. but CONFIDENCE IS EVERYTHING. i'm in europe right now hoopin and the guys that don't worry about missin shots and keep playin aggressive are the ones that play the best. you never see kobe gettin down after he misses 3 in a row cause he always believes he's gonna knock down the next 4 or 5. alot of guys can hoop but the confidence is what separates good from great.

^^^ THIS MAN!!! I've hooped against MoFo's that were superior to me physically but their minds are fragile as hell. Get in their heads and it's a done deal. The game is very cerebral as well. I have a buddy named Frankie King that played for Western Carolina then got drafted by the Lakers in 95 only to be replaced when Kobe came to town and then he went to Philadelphia where Allen Iverson was drafted. He went overseas to play some good ball and when few championships. Long story short I was a nice player with a tight handle. I first met Frankie at our neighborhood court. I heard some dude talking under his breath like Yooooooooo that MoFo right there was supposed to be a McDonald's All American yada yada yada. Soooooo we on the court and I hear someone say I want some of him I hear he does all kinds of tricks with the ball and what have you *Frankie talking shit to me on the sly* So I'm putting in work and we win. Next up Frankie King vs Myself......... That MoFo handed my ASS To Me Yo!!!! He dapped me up after the game and told me to come to the gym with him to work out, he said all I needed was to get in better shape. From then on we were cool. A couple of years after that I was in college hooped a lil got in a head on collision with an 18 wheeler and it was a wrap. I got into fitness as an alternative. A lot of the game involves confidence, conditioning, and mental toughness........

Man my boy used to play 1 on 5 Left Handed and win. We was 15 and older cats come to the court he do em up. Couldn't cut it in college though.. no work ethic, all talent.

One of my mom's friends son was a basketball player in HS.

Dude's father had him at the court since he was 5. Dude, actually grew to be 6'5". Dude told me that by the time he was 8, his pops had him on a SERIOUS training regimen that was about four hours, six days a week.

Dude was the MAN in HS; a damn good college player; but worked out for multiple NBA teams and was rejected every time.

Real spit: How someone can work that hard, for that many years, and not make it is just crazy. Seriously. To think you have guys like Jamal Crawford claiming he never really practice...

...shit just ain't fair.

Was supposed to add this a few weeks ago, but kept forgetting.

My cousin's b/f played some college ball back in the day, and then overseas. Dude told me he was in the Chi, and played some ball against Randy Brown. I always through of RB as a major scrub...

...dude said Randy Brown destroyed him. Randy Fucking Brown, people.

This is the first dude I saw, in person, that made me realize I wasn't SHIT @ bball. Dude toyed with my hometown legends like they were children.

I thought dude was going pro out of high school...

...and he went to UCONN for four years, and never sniffed the league.

Shit blew me fucking mind.:smh:

I just thought about this thread.

Maaaaaaan, summer of 2015, I got a chance to see Ish Smith play some pickup. This dude was so fucking fast and incredible. I mean, he was doing everything. Just doing circus shots for fun on multiple defenders. Dude handle . ....
